Cricket sighed, then walked over to her, kneeling on one knee beside her. "Hey. You okay?" he said softly.

She sniffed softly but didn't wake up.

Lol I'm imagining this scene in my head

and it's like

Tam's all cozy next to a fire with a couple blankets and Cricket's next to her

and then on the other side of the fire there's just a decapitated corpse

like

Los peoples who are paying attention to Bat atm which prolly includes only authors but 😅

Spoiler

The boat drifted closer and closer until it bumped into the platform. The girl inside got out. She was around Bat's age, with long hair even darker than his and full of tiny braids hiding in the rest of her hair. Her skin was just as pale as Bat's from years of little exposure to sunlight--- Bat had gotten a little color recently, actually--- and her face was firm.

"Didn't you get the note?" She snapped, standing and joining him on the platform. "I told you--- don't let him out of your sight or I'll take care of him myself."

His hand tightened around the buckle of his bag. His eyes fixed on her feet. "I know. I'm sorry, Rose. It... it won't happen again."

"It better not," Rose warned him. "You know why I'm giving you a second chance, right?"  He swallowed and nodded, but she continued anyway. "Because nobody wants you to come home. They might just get mad at me if I killed him and brought you back."

"I know," he whispered.

"So stop screwing up."

"I will. I'm sorry."

She swept her eyes over him again, nose slightly wrinkled. "Yeah, yeah. I'll be waiting, Bat." She returned to her boat and pushed off, sailing for the shore.

Bat sat down on the platform and pulled out the flower again, the one Tam had given him. He reached up to wipe hot tears out of his eyes.

He looked at her for a long time, then started talking softly. "You know, for a long time, I thought I could fight, could be strong, and that you needed protection. Then Stone had me at his mercy, and I realized that you don't need me to protect you. You're strong and brave. You killed Stone after all. Which is more than I could do."

"As Stone was stabbing me, I realized something. I didn't care about myself dying, I cared about you, and what the consequences meant for you. Stone would've tried to kill you. So would the hunters. Now, I can protect you. Even if you don't need it." he looked around. "I really hope you didn't hear that." he said, smiling slightly.

He looked down at her for a second. "Oh, whatever." he said. "I should wake you up. We should go somewhere warmer." he said, shaking her gently. "Tam?"

"I-I heard noises from this room, I don't know I just appeared in front of this temple." Sylas seems distressed.

I hesitantly raise my hand. "If it helps, I believe that is at least partially my fault."

Lady Bug appeared again, but this time, she looked... different. Perfectly put together, happy, and completely sane.

"Hello, dear! What's your name?"
