This blade crumbled into dust moments after contact, and Moni stepped back out of range. She glanced down at the dagger in her hand. Nameless could make this thing change forms... This would be a lot easier with a sword.

The Render reaches the train tracks, and is angry. So that was how the mage was escaping! Unable to outrun the train, it tears up rails and snaps them into metal fragments. It was known as a Render for a reason, after all. Taking the sharp pieces of twisted metal and forming them into a human-like shape with great bladed wings, it walks off, away from the mage. But that did not mean it had given up. It was still hunting, just in a different way. 

She nodded, a purpose would be nice to have, indeed. “A new purpose? So what was it before, then?” Faunus asked, her own gaze drifting aside to watch out the window.

“I, like the other mages, helped those who needed to recover from disasters in exchange for the food and shelter needed to keep running. When nothing was needed, small groups of mages would research new focuses and test ways to escape Renders, leaving notes in the mage safe-houses as they traveled. My purpose was to give as much benefit to society before I was caught; I chose that path from the second spell I cast.”

“It is a fulfilling life, but for one thing, I was reaching the end of it and having to teleport of evade the Render, and for another, with Narrators able to do the same things I can but without the threat of a Render attack, I doubt anyone not experiencing a crisis would harbor me. I would gladly go back to where I was and give my life to help people for another year or so, but here there isn’t the same system, and I don’t think people have the same problems.”

Faunus stared at him for a moment, and then the corner of her mouth curled up in the smallest smirk. “Aren’t I harboring you? Last I checked, I wasn’t in a crisis.” Her smile faltered, “Anyway, I mean, does it matter that Narrators exist, can do more than you without consequence? You’ve heard first hand, we don’t care. So why shouldn’t you care anymore?”

At the next station, let’s get off and transfer to the ‘still away from the Render but also towards some people that need our help and existed beforehand because making up some people in crisis is morally dubious’ train.”

The wall didn't like this. It threw a fit, causing a minor earthquake around them, separating them during their hug. A chasm formed in between them. It was a small chasm, as chasms go, but it was still quite a bit larger than either of them.

The bridge, which was a suspension bridge, broke as he was running across. He was on the half that was closer to Beotsa, and that part of the bridge swung towards the inside of the chasm near Beotsa.
