Beosta is still at the party, telling Bat to leave with Gaioh cuz she doesn't want to talk to him. Gail and Sasha are not at the party anymore.

Cool.

Shoe continued to sleep, completely oblivious to whatever was happening in the rest of the Thread.

He was having quite a nice dream, actually.

Maybe he would wake up soon.

Pyk nodded, and noticed the voice. Interesting, but Asher hadn’t overly asked about his past, so… he wouldn’t pry.

Tenth looked at James uncomfortably.  I wish I didn’t. This power has already killed…

"Oh," said James awkwardly.

He coughed. "W-well, who do you have as an instructor?"

Sasha smiled. It was nice to not be alone.

"Oh hey, Sasha!" said Nogard. "You aren't a ghost anymore!"

“Beosta,” a voice said from behind her, making her jump and whirl around.

Her chest tightened. It was Father.

“Wh- what are you doing here? You’re not supposed to be able to—”

He tapped the choker around his neck, made of small, round, black beads. Nullite. “We need to talk.”

“I don’t want to hear a thing you have to say,” she replied, tearing her eyes away. Livetha. Where was Livetha? They had to leave. Right now.”

“That’s all right,” he said. “But you’re going to. You’re still my daughter, and you will listen.”

She said nothing.

“You’ve heard the stories,” he said softly. “You were never skeptical like your mother was. The universe calls out to those who need it, and it called out to you. It gave you so much power.”

Beosta stared off at another distant corner, willing herself not to cry. “I don’t understand.”

Silence.

“How’s Nethek? And Faothea?”

“They named their daughter Averia. Above Bright Stars.”

“That’s beautiful.”

He nodded. After another long moment, he reached out and touched her hand. “Do you ever want to come home, my daughter?”

Tears sprang to her eyes. It had been so long since he’d talked to her this way. Since he’d looked at her gently, spoken to her softly. She yearned for that again, but she knew it was gone. It was gone— he’d done too much, she’d done too much. They couldn’t go back to that.

And Shoe. There was Shoe, too.

“No. No, I don't.”

“I saw somebody familiar here earlier,” he told her, still holding her hand in both of his. “If he were to come back, all would be forgiven.”

She hadn’t thought of that. Maybe… maybe things could be fixed. Maybe she could go home again.

He let go of her hand, then leaned forward and planted a kiss on the top of her head. “Just think about it,” he said. “I’m sure you have ways to find me.” He reached into his jacket and ripped up the invitation.

“Goodbye,” Beosta whispered. Her heart was pounding in her ears, and hope and terror wrestled in her stomach.

She should get back to Shoe.

After finding Livetha and retrieving the headache aid from the nightstand, she ripped up the invitation and sat down on the beach.

Nogard blinked. "Who?"

"A very powerful mage," Gail interjected. "The details aren't important." She gave Sasha a warning glance.

A few minutes later, Shoe came to.

He wished he hadn't, though.

He had a splitting headache- like someone had been hammering nails into his skull from the inside.

On top of that, he felt dizzy, tired-

-and so very nauseous.

He groaned and opened his eyes- but the light was too harsh and so he closed them again.

Ugh . . . he groaned. What happened . . .?

I've decided that it's nighttime.

The person nodded, and gave a wave of their hand. Their power to suppress emotion was inherently meant for organic brains and consciousness, so whether or not that affected the Render was unknown.

The Render’s burgeoning emotions flicker and dim, leaving it with single minded purpose. But… I would be thrown out, and then I could not kill the mage. I will wait. It begins sharpening the largest, strongest items it has, deep within its form. And then the person disappears to be interrogated, I assume.
I’m slowing catching up on what I’ve missed. I don’t think anyone has told either of me to leave yet, at least not directly. I may edit this if some sort of large announcement is made.

"We're on the beach again. After you passed out, one of Sequence's people did... something? And so there was black stuff of death, so we left."

She absently pet Livetha, who curled up and fell asleep. "Sorry about the headache and stuff."

The person was gone, and the Render’s prison slowly melted away. It found itself in the plain it had been chasing the mage on before it accidentally activated the invitation.

Did Sequence ever try to get Kion to leave?
The Render looks and feels around. No mage to be found.

Everybody still at the party found themselves transported back, as all the invitations were invalidated and the planet was closed.

Black stuff of death . . . okay . . . he said groggily, taking another sip of . . . whatever this stuff was. It seemed to be helping.

Then he suddenly remembered why he felt so awful.

Wait a second- you got me drunk! he said accusingly.
