You’re still my daughter, and you will listen.” She said nothing. “You’ve heard the stories,” he said softly. “You were never skeptical like your mother was. The universe calls out to those who need it, and it called out to you. It gave you so much power.” Beosta stared off at another distant corner, willing herself not to cry. “I don’t understand.” Silence. “How’s Nethek? And Faothea?” “They named their daughter Averia. Above Bright Stars.” “That’s beautiful.” He nodded. After another long moment, he reached out and touched her hand. “Do you ever want to come home, my daughter?” Tears sprang to her eyes. It had been so long since he’d talked to her this way. Since he’d looked at her gently, spoken to her softly. She yearned for that again, but she knew it was gone. It was gone— he’d done too much, she’d done too much. They couldn’t go back to that. And Shoe. There was Shoe, too. “No. No, I don't.” “I saw somebody familiar here earlier,” he told her, still holding her hand in both of his. “If he were to come back, all would be forgiven.” She hadn’t thought of that. Maybe… maybe things could be fixed. Maybe she could go home again. He let go of her hand, then leaned forward and planted a kiss on the top of her head. “Just think about it,” he said. “I’m sure you have ways to find me.” He reached into his jacket and ripped up the invitation. “Goodbye,” Beosta whispered. Her heart was pounding in her ears, and hope and terror wrestled in her stomach. She should get back to Shoe. After finding Livetha and retrieving the headache aid from the nightstand, she ripped up the invitation and sat down on the beach.

Their power to suppress emotion was inherently meant for organic brains and consciousness, so whether or not that affected the Render was unknown. The Render’s burgeoning emotions flicker and dim, leaving it with single minded purpose. But… I would be thrown out, and then I could not kill the mage. I will wait. It begins sharpening the largest, strongest items it has, deep within its form. And then the person disappears to be interrogated, I assume. I’m slowing catching up on what I’ve missed. I don’t think anyone has told either of me to leave yet, at least not directly. I may edit this if some sort of large announcement is made.
