Why was the sash ceremony held so far from the Diem?

Do we know why the advancement/sash ceremony was held so far away from Lossand? I'd thought that such an event would happen right outside the Diem or even within their indoor arena.

Wasn't it a sacred place of Sand Masters?

Yeah, the desert full of the sand that's the cornerstone of their powers is a sacred place for them and that location is specifically called out as such. It's far enough away from civilization that only the Sand Masters go there but not as inhospitable as the deep sands.

The Deim was built after the tradition had already started(when the sand masters joined Lossand society).  The just kept their old traditions.
