Eluvianii he/him Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Finally decided to catch up with Kaguya-sama (at a pretty poor time I hear). Season 3 is amazing, the evolution of this show is kind of insane. Season 1 is just disconnected comedy skits loosely tied up to make something resembling a plot, like 80% within the council room, most side characters being little more than walking stereotypes. Then there's season 3, with a full fledged romance plot, a couple well developed sub plots, good characterization, lots of characters and the whole school is the stage now. How did we get here? Was great. The movie is good, I think. There's good character development, very necessary too, and the climax is great. It's just that Spoiler This is the kind of stuff that goes great as a lead up to a confession. Putting it after the confession feels like padding. But then they put a second confession which was better than the first one anyway, therefore the first one doesn't count so it's all good? I guess? Idk. Again, it was good, and this arc feels necessary, but one of my biggest pet peeves is romance stories taking a situation that should be resolved already, and just dragging it out. Some stories really will do anything to avoid the main couple becoming a couple. And after the end of S3 this feels like that. Also a third confession right before the credits for good measure lol. Now that the ship is sinking I guess I'll jump into the manga.

I don't like it too much but it's on my playlist but anyway I was surprised when I opened Netflix cuz: Spoiler I saw this

Eluvianii he/him Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Just watched the duology of "To Me, The One Who Loved You", and "To Every You I've Loved Before". That was actually genius. Two movies about parallel universes, where each movie is a parallel universe of the other. The former was pretty good, and the latter actually became one of my favorites. I wish I had watched it second instead of first. The way each movie explores the concept of possibility is really cool, especially how they each keep to a specific angle that the other movie doesn't touch. The titles here actually mean something and are really appropriate. Cannot believe it took me 3 years to watch these considering I've been aware of them since before they came out. Great movies, sorta melancholy. Neither was at all what I expected actually but I'm glad that is the case.
+Slowswift Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Steins;Gate is a storming masterpiece. It absolutely stuck the landing. My favorite show remains my favorite show, hooray! And Makise Kurisu is a generational Best Girl. Now for Steins;Gate 0. And I’ll probably want to read the VN too.
KnightSkye Reforged They/Them Posted February 19 Posted February 19 (edited) Just finished rewatching Trigun. Anyone else out there to commiserate with me over Nicholas D. Wolfwood Rem and Tesla? Edited March 18 by KnightSkye Reforged
Retsam Posted February 19 Posted February 19 I'm a big fan of the original anime. I've taken a few stabs at the manga in the past, but never got very far. Manga is generally just not my thing, I found the Trigun manga a bit hard to follow when I tried it, and I've gotten the general impression that the parts I liked most about the anime were much smaller parts of the manga. I also was fairly disappointed by Stampede - though I've started rewatching it and I'm enjoying it a bit more - it probably helps that I started rewatching it in the middle, with the episode that I remember liking the most, and some of it is probably the magic of lowered expectations.

Yeah, the manga is super hard to follow and not my favorite tbh. The only part I liked in the manga more than the anime was Knives and Vash's backstories with their little sister. LOVE the original anime though. It was my first anime and is still my favorite. Yeah, I've only seen a little of stampede so far and I don't like it to be honest.
clowncarcrash Posted March 3 Posted March 3 I liked Stampede....although idk, it kinda irritates me that its not a remake, like i was shocked that Knives came into the story super early on compared to the original anime. But I suppose its one of those things where people call it pointless if its a 1:1 remake but it risks alienating fans like me. Still a gorgeous show, I was really reluctant going in because the 3D CGI seemed like a bit much but god bless they did a good job.

One of the things I loved about the original is how long Knives was a shadowy ominous background figure, and I didn't like how early he came into stampede. I will say, I was amused and kinda sad at how their gun physics and ammo counting got worse in stampede. I loved that even the machine guns had ammo counting done in the original anime.
Usseewa ✾ She♡Her ✾ Posted May 1 Posted May 1 (edited) Binged the first 10 episodes of Recovery of an MMO Junkie in two days. I think I have one left, cuz I think it's only 1 season long. But I love it. I found it when I looked for depressing anime recs, but it's honestly not that depressing. I mean it has to do with depression, but I didn't find it depressing, tho maybe that's just me. But watch it!! It's - as the name suggests - about someone who plays MMOs. It's also romance, I think. But still pretty much PG-13 level stuff, IYKWIM. Edited May 1 by Usseewa
