Necessary Eagle she/her Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 The name "Azure" probably should have been a tip-off, but when she was first introduced, I thought the Highmarshal was a man. By the time Azure's "secret" was revealed, I had already stopped thinking about "his" name and moved on to other stuff. The weird "shardblade" maybe should have been a clue, but to be fair, I don't think anyone was expecting Nightblood 2.0. When Kaladin stated right out that he thought she had found an Honorblade, there was obviously going to some dramatic irony there; I figured it was going to turn out that she was an actual Herald. Except she didn't seem at batguano insane as a Herald. So I didn't know what to think. Then she used Zahel's "white on black" idiom, and that's when I put the book down, and laughed, and started muttering about how I'd found her. When did you guys realize she was Vivenna? 5
Ammanas Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 All the color expressions that she used was a big give away for me.
Awesomness Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 When she showed up I thought Ta..Vivenna!!! (I was expecting something interesting from this misterios Highmarshal..)
RShara she/her Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 Oh dear. Please change the title to be more generic and add OB to the title as well. The spoiler policy at the top has details. Also, I didn't spot her until I read it here, because I'm terrible at spotting world hoppers 2
Naurock Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 When her hair changed color, it hit me then. Which was very briefly before she outright said she's from somewhere else.
Kk- Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 I'll hold my head high and say that until the end of part 3 I was utterly convinced she was Betab in disguise, and busy attributing everything to her being a herald who had acquired a shardblade. Then I hopped into the part 3 reaction thread, which had about 3 responses at the time, and it hit me like a tonne of bricks.
Kardenal_13 he/him Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 I had heard Vivenna was in the book, so the second they showed the Highmarshal in person I was like "Hello Viv".
Yata he/him Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 (edited) I suspected of her when we got the Soulcaster's scene. I had my confirmation with the "Black and White" quote Edited December 3, 2017 by Yata 1
Bacon Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 I was pretty slow on the uptake, so it took me until Nightblood mentions her name for me to make the connection.

Thought she was a Herald at first, then just another manifestation of KR. Then when she did the Kata, then I realized I should have realized when Adolin saw her hair change.
Shaker Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 I caught it after she used a color idiom, but honestly thought it was Vasher doing his returned shape-shifty-thing. Then when her hair changed color in Shadesmar I knew it was Vivenna instead.
Faceless Mist-Wraith he/him Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 I caught it when she said "white on black". I actually reread that sentence a few times to make sure I wasn't misreading it or jumping to conclusions. Later the color change and the talk of giving up duty cemented the idea. 2
Julio Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 It slowly came to me, my gut reaction at learning about her shardblade was that she was Vivenna. However, I dismissed that and forgot about it, until one of the fight scenes with her. She was killing people, and they were turning grey... "Oh, I think this might be Vivenna....." She had a cloak wrapped around her left arm. "Yes, I am pretty sure this is Vivenna!" "They'll be like Crimson to defeat." VIVENNA!!!!!!!!!!
StrikerEZ he/him Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 I realized it was her the moment she said "white on black" right before the fight with the Fused where Kal holds on to one in the air and stabs it with his Sylknife. I started suspecting things were funky when they talked about how she carried her Shardblade around, but I couldn't quite figure out why until that idiom. 1
Storming Radiant he/him Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 I realized it from the part where they say that her Shardblade turned people grey.
Pattern he/him Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 When Azure used the color metaphor "white on black" I thought: "gotcha!". Zahel/Vasher used that same metaphor earlier in the book, so it stood out like a sore tooth. The name should have been a hint (in the prereleased chapters I called nearly every new appearing female Vivenna suspect...), but I was otherwise occupied reading the Kholinar infiltration. That Azure is Vivenna and not some random Nalthian woman became clear when she did the kata together with Kaladin and Adolin. All three have learned it from Vasher. Then her hair color changes in Shadesmar, I assume because her control over it slipped because of fear. So Nalthian + royal locks + Vasher kata confirms Vivenna for me. Oh and her sword. Thats a Nightblood 2.0 or Dayblood. Whatever it's name is... 2
Calderis he/him Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 (edited) "white on black" Edited December 3, 2017 by Ookla, the Incalculable 2
RShara she/her Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 I should have made the connection when her hair changed colors. For some reason, I thought she was an Elantrian instead, though, because it changed to white...lol. I'm so bad at this. (Also, should take Vivenna's name out of the topic title)
Elsvette Mintyfresh she/her Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 Like a lot of other people, for me, it was the moment she said "like white on black." I'm fairly certain Vasher said that exact phrase to Dalinar in part one. 1

WhiteLeeopard she/her Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 At first I thought she was a Stoneward, Herald or Honorblade wielder. It wasn't until the dinner conversation with Kaladin and the color metaphor that I realized who she was. I think it was a red or crimson color she used. I couldn't believe I hadn't noticed her earlier, but in my defense I hadn't expected her to have such a huge part.
The Invested Beard Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 As soon as I found out Azure was a woman. He should change his name to Brandon Blantantson. 2
