Who Sharded?

Recommended Posts

I think one of the commenters summed up my thoughs almost exsactly

This is made worse by the fact that much of the tension in Words of Radiance is derived by characters’ unwillingness to talk to each other.

(headdesk.. thump) He learned too much from WoT!!!

So looking forward to this!

I know.  But even if Kaladin does WoT around a bit in this book.  It's one book and he has a justifiable reason to be suspicious of others.  It at least seems like by the end of WoR there's more understanding and hopefully lack of talking isn't a thing that becomes a series hallmark (like WoT).

I bet it is justifiable too, the non-talking.

Brandon often tells in his lectures that he hates "THE MISUNDERSTANDING" and plots based on people refusing to listen or talk, specially in romance plots.

I'm pretty sure that, if Kaladin spend 3/4 of the book not talking with Dalinar out of suspicion, it will actually be clear and justified by his viewpoints and past.

It's gonna be an ordeal, nonetheless, but bearable.

I disagree with Carl's assessment that "much of the tension is from characters not talking to each other." No, there's far more worrying sources of tension... Also, I felt that characters had extremely good reasons for not immediately telling others things. It felt very natural.

So, I don't think you guys need to worry.

I have to agree with everyone here. Having read the book early (Please don't kill me out of envy), I'd say it's understandable, even if you want to smack Kaladin upside the head.

I wanted to dump a bucket of ice water over Harry's head when I read Order of the Phoenix and I still love him anyway. I would have felt cheated Harry didn't act that way in one of the books and it took him five books to get there.

If Kaladin trusted Dalinar too easily Sanderson would be betraying all his character development from his book. At least Kaladin is getting it out of his system in the second book. Now if he still acts this way in later books I will be annoyed, but with all the trauma he has experienced he needs to work through it before he can move on for his trust to be believable.

I haven't. I'm making judgements based on reviews. I feel your pain. I'm so looking forward to next Monday at 9pm.

I don't know if you'll catch the reference, but I could picture some intense braid tugging in this comment....
