CaptainRyan he/him Posted November 3, 2017 Posted November 3, 2017 This popped up in my Google curated news feed last night: https://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2017/11/brandon-sanderson-the-apocalypse-guard.html Personally, I find it interesting that I have not seen an official announcement from Dragonsteel or Brandon himself but, as far as I can tell, this is legitimate news. Sorry Reckoners fans but it looks like you will have to wait a bit longer. Personal speculation: the "mystery project" is the long teased "Dark One". 1

MistbornAlpaca he/him Posted November 3, 2017 Posted November 3, 2017 Brandon must be pretty storming excited to put a book that's in its second draft on hold for something else. I am so Storming excited!

Ammanas Posted November 3, 2017 Posted November 3, 2017 That's really interesting. I am shocked that a author as experienced as Sanderson is can be flummoxed by The Apocalypse Guard trilogy. On that same note bravo for Brandon for not putting out what he feels to be a inferior product even though it would sell well and make a ton of money. It probably took a lot of courage to admit that the project is broken and he doesn't know how to fix it at the moment.

Personally, I wonder if it has something to do with the how "Calamity" turned out. I felt like that was the first time one of Brandon's endings fell flat for me. I don't know if he feels the same way but that might be a factor in why he feels the Apocalypse Guard needs more time. 1
Ammanas Posted November 3, 2017 Posted November 3, 2017 On the bright side perhaps this moves up Wax and Wayne #4? Way more excited about that series anyway. 2
Toaster Retribution he/him Posted November 3, 2017 Posted November 3, 2017 Huh, no Apocalypse Guard. I guess Mystery Project is something for that publisher then. I am interested in AG, but not so much that this bothers me. Like @Ammanas says, if this gets us closer to Mistborn I'm good. We should consider that he might want to try again after Mystery Project, and so there is a risk that this will actually push up the timetable. Fingers crossed that this is Death by Pizza! 1 hour ago, CaptainRyan said: Personally, I wonder if it has something to do with the how "Calamity" turned out. Spoiler I would have wanted to see Cody and Abraham again. Also, what was the deal with Abrahams past? And Mizzy being an Epic is dropped as a random bombshell at the end. 1

Would love to hear how Brandon feels about this in retrospect. Calamity is the only thing Brandon has written that I have disliked. Which pained me to admit to my self because I liked the first two books so much. It actually made me completely uninterested in AG to be honest. I will of course give it a shot regardless because "In Brandon I trust" so it does mean a lot to me that he has shelved it until he can fix AG.
Green Hoodie Mistborn he/him Posted November 4, 2017 Posted November 4, 2017 I hope is the Necromancer's Pizza Parlor books he's talked about for a long time
Draginon he/him Posted November 4, 2017 Posted November 4, 2017 Interesting. Makes you wonder what didn't work when writing the first draft.
