UpLifted
Hey this is a really obvious thing that I picked up on a while ago but I haven't seen it on the Shard yet so I'll just ask, has everyone noticed that Steris is an anagram for the word Sister? I picked up on this when I first read AoL. I still find it odd as this doesn't seem like a very Brandon way to foreshadow a plot twist.
Iarwainiel I
That's cool @UpLifted! Sadly, since it's a local business here where I live, the word "Steris" is too strongly associated with "sterilizers" for me to get much beyond that ... kind of like that kid who couldn't answer a test question because "there's a bear in the way." (If you never saw that meme, here it is.)
Weltall
I suspect it's a coincidence. Not everything in Brandon's work has to be deep foreshadowing just because there's a lot of it and we shouldn't fall into the trap of reading too much into things. For example, people have noticed that the name of Ruin's Vessel shares the name of an Aon from Elantris but Brandon has confirmed that 1) that wasn't intentional and 2) the names aren't pronounced the same even though they look identical. So the fact that Steris is an anagram of Sister is kind of interesting but we shouldn't assume that this was intentional. Plus, it's not as though the revelation that she and Marasi are half-sisters is a huge twist that comes out in the Sanderson Avalanche, it's revealed about halfway through the book.
Calderis
This is one of those things that I think is more likely to be subconscious than intentional, if it is related.
The One Who Connects
For all we know, he was in a name generation bind and picked an innocuous word to rearrange until it sounded like a Scadrian name.(something I actually hadn't done back when i tried writing) Edit: Unless it's the name of a Shard or the person is specifically named after something, there isn't much to read into in a name.
