  1. So at the end of AoL, Marsh delivers Spook's book to Marasi, which informs her, as well as Wax and Wayne, of the existence of Hemalurgy. I've just been rereading HoA and realized that Sazed wrote about Hemalurgy in the epigraphs of the book. Those epigraphs were part of the books that he left the founders of the new world. So why wouldn't Hemalurgy be widely know about in Era 2 already?
  2. At the end of RoW, Moash appears to be physically blind, and it appears to be permanent. Without getting into the reasons for his blindness, the question remains, what is Moash's character arc from now on? Will he just go out with a whimper and no bang? I really hope not. He's too well developed a villain for him to go out like this. So here is my theory: At the end of the book we see El spike Lezian. This indicates that he is either competent in, or experimenting with Hemalurgy. We know from Khriss's notes that Hemalurgy has vast implications cosmere-wise. All that being said, my theory is that Moash will find his way to El at some point in book 5 and El will spike Moash, Inquisitor style, and this is how he will regain his ability to fight and be a villain with style once again. I imagine that with the spikes, he would be able to see investiture or he will be able to see into the cognitive realm in some way. I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on this!
  3. On page 1088 (Chapter 101) there is a huge Typo. Jasnah refers to the Bridge Four as "my aunt's flying machine" in reference to Navani's (her mother's) flying machine.
  4. Anyone else thinking about calling in sick tomorrow so they can read RoW? I NEVER do this.... Except when OB came out but THAT'S IT!!!! I'm weak...
  5. Whoooo boy! Just got through my first read of OB last night (dang grad school papers!) and I have about 1,001 questions. But here's one for now. I've seen a lot of discussion regarding what exactly the dagger that was used to...something...Jezrien was and how it functioned. But I haven't seen anyone ask yet why Moash was chosen by the Fused or likely by Odium himself to....something... Jezrien. If it was merely a function of the knife's power being needed to be used on Jezrien then seemingly anyone could have used it, no? Why then would such an important task fall to a wild card like Moash? It appears to be a test of sorts to see where Moash's loyalties truly lie, but is it that simple, or is there something more afoot? It seems to great a risk on the part of Odium to give the task to a human who he has less control over. I don't really have an answer. Just the question. Any thoughts?

    Steris' Name

Hey this is a really obvious thing that I picked up on a while ago but I haven't seen it on the Shard yet so I'll just ask, has everyone noticed that Steris is an anagram for the word Sister? I picked up on this when I first read AoL. I still find it odd as this doesn't seem like a very Brandon way to foreshadow a plot twist.
  7. Hey, doing my annual re-read of the original mistborn trilogy. I noticed that Kelsier says that his imposter, OreSeur, can't get near an Inquisitor for fear of being revealed. Is this because Inquisitor Bronze vision would pick up the metal spikes in kandra bodies. While this makes sense I was under the impression that Kelsier didn't understand how Inquisitor vision worked. Thoughts?
  8. Um yeah... Back in the day before it was illegal Batei Dinim (Jewish Courts) used to have a guy who was essentially an enforcer for them and he would beat on scumbag husbands until they gave a get. Also, they had the power to put him in cheirem, making him an ostracized outcast until he granted the divorce. Nowadays the law prevents the first and the acceptance of Jews into mainstream society makes the latter less effective. There are certain prenuptial agreements that can be put into place that prevent the husband from having this power over his wife. Many Rabbis will refuse to preside over a wedding unless such arrangements are in place. In response to your question though... the Punisher, definitely.
  9. Hey this may be a dumb question but if Harmonium or Ettmetal explodes when wet, then how the heck can an allomancer ever swallow it? Wouldn't it explode on contact with saliva?
  10. Perhaps, but in theory it could be done. If anything what you are saying lends support to this theory.
  11. In BoM MeLaan states clearly that Kandra cannot reproduce. My question is, while they might not be able to make more Kandra, since that requires spikes which were used to kill people, can they reproduce in the human sense. If MeLaan can imitate Marasi's blood type, and do a host of other unbelievable things to her body such as forming keys out of flesh and bone, can't she make an egg which can be fertilized. Heck, she can make the egg and sperm herself and self-fertilize. If she can imitate human genetics, can't she reproduce like humans as well?
  12. This was probably discussed previously on this forum but I couldn't find it anywhere so I'll ask. I don't have the exact quote in front of me but in WoR, right before Szeth comes to assassinate Dalinar the first time, Kaladin speaks to the stormfather in his dream. The Stormfather seemingly references the impending attack by saying something like "He comes...the one who hates." Since Szeth immediately attacks I assumed it was a reference to him, but seeing as Odium essentially means hatred shouldn't this be a reference to him? Does this refer to Odium then and the Stormfather was just giving a general warning about Odium's return that just happened to coincide with Szeth's attack? Or does this mean that Szeth was being influenced by Odium? Is there an answer for this out there?
  13. Sometimes I think I'm way too obsessed with the Cosmere... then I come across threads like this and realize that I could be way worse...
  14. It's called Sandersonitis. A neurosis characterized by an obsession with the fictional Universe known as the Cosmere invented by mad genius Brandon Sanderson.
  15. Thanks. Good catch.
  16. Don't have any proof for this theory but just thought I would throw this out there. My theory for Marasi's character is that she will be the last surviving member of Era 2 Mistborn. What envision happening is Wax dying at the end of LM and Marasi being in some way responsible for his demise. She goes off into the roughs and becomes a lawman (law-woman?). But as technology spreads and urbanization reaches the roughs, her positions as a lawperson becomes irrelevant. She ends up going exploring and is never heard from again... Until Era 3 where she shows up and is surprisingly young considering the time lapse. This is because she gets fed up with the backward ways of society and spends a significant amount of time burning or even flaring Nicrosil Cadmium to propel herself into the future. She will act as a guide to at least one of the protagonists in Era 3, maybe even her great-niece/nephew. Again, no proof for this just daydreaming here.
  17. I believe that Marasi will be the last surviving character from era 2 Mistborn to be around in Era 3. I think she'll act as some sort of guide to the next Era's protaganist. I also believe that Renarin is being manipulated by Odium or one of his agents, such as the Unmade. This is due to him seeing the future, which as we're repeatedly told is "of the voidbringers." I hope hope hope that Shallan and Kaladin don't end up together. I don't really care about Shallan and Adolin but for her to end up with Kaladin would seem too pat for me.
  18. I think that the following death rattle deals with the mystery surrounding Taln. Now, we know that it's most likely that the person we think is Taln is some sort of imposter. We know this because of a WoB where he refuses to confirm that the person who claims to be Taln is who he says he is. So we are left with several questions. Mainly, who is this imposter, where did he come from and how did he get Taln's Shardblade? My theory is as follows. The death rattle quoted above refers to both Taln and his imposter. They are the two dead men who came from the pit. "The pit" would be referring to Braize, the purgatory where the heralds are relegated to in between Desolations. The "heart in their hands" is referring to Taln's Honorblade. Remember, before the Blade got switched out for a plain old Shardblade, the blade that Taln's imposter was carrying seems to be an Honorblade. I think that the Honorblade is instrumental in returning the Heralds from Braize to Roshar. They certainly grant investiture as evidenced by Szeth's manifestation of windrunner abilities. It's not too much of a stretch to say that the Honorblade is the "heart" that they are holding. "True Glory" can refer to one of two things. The obvious thing is the glory of a herald. The other requires me to elaborate on my theory. Here's what I think happened. Someone came to Braize to rescue Taln or to inform him of the coming Desolation. He would have to be a worldhopper and a powerful one at that to survive the hellfires of Braize. We see evidence of his power when he catches the poisonous darts fired at Amaram mid-flight. This however doesn't seem to match what we know as Heraldic powers. The heralds' powers I believe were just stronger versions of the knights radiant. For example, Jezrien would've been a really strong Windrunner, perhaps an immortal one in terms of aging. However, the heralds were not supermen. Superspeed was not, as far as I know in their repertoire. Nor is it in the repertoire of any of the invested beings on Roshar as far as I know. Maybe he's a Feruchemist (unlikely, but he could have tapped speed, after all his hand motion is described as a blur.) Regardless, his powers are not those of a Rosharian. So he goes to save Taln. He finds him, but Taln refuses to leave Braize. He feels that he must hold to the oathpact for fear of letting Odium free. The Oathpact is, I assume, what has bound Odium to the Rosharian System. However, he still feels the need to send help. Therefore he sends his Honorblade with the imposter and instructs him to help the Rosharians. Something goes wrong and the imposter loses his mind. Not sure why. The "Glory"is the sacrafice made by Taln in order to uphold the Oathpact. Wooooo..... Okay so hopefully most of that wasn't nonsense. Please comment and tell me what you think. P.S. I do think that the imposter is someone that Hoid knew. He refers to him as "My confused, unfortunate friend." Perhaps this was a friend of Hoid's on some previous Hoid adventure.
  19. Thanks for the WoB Voidus. At least there's no more contradiction. Still the mystery of what he was doing in Terris though.
  20. In one of Fuzz's rants he says “I needed a sign,” Fuzz whispered, stopping near Kelsier. “Something he couldn’t change. A sign of the weapon I’d buried.” Is he talking about the atium?
  21. So why was Hoid hanging with the Terris people? It seems like all the old theories essentially said that Hoid had been fooled by the Lord Ruler's reshaping of the world and was searching for the well of ascension in the Terris dominance for most of WoA. Now however we know that Hoid had in fact entered Scadrial through the perpendicularity that is the Well. Plus he already had the Lerasium so he certainly wasn't looking for that. My theory was that Hoid was looking for a keeper to give the Lerasium to so he could make another Lord Ruler to take the power of the well. Then he discovered that there were no more keepers because they had all been killed by the inquisitors... Ok that's a bit of a stretch but the best I've got right now. Honestly I'm not sure what he was doing in Terris but it's certainly not what we thought before.
  22. Did anyone else see a similarity between the Elantrian Connection Device that Kelsier uses to get Preservation's Power and the orbs that the Parshendi use to change forms? It describes the Elantrian device as So there was some sort of Connection stored up inside which temporarily makes the user/smasher more connected to Preservation. Doesn't that remind you of the way the parshendi would gain their new forms? I don't have the text in front of me but I seem to recall that when eshonai changes forms she smashes a sphere holding a spren during a highstorm. Using different spren results in different forms. Presumably this would mean that the spren provide the Connection to the form that the Parshendi wants. It says on coppermind that the parshendi can change form without a spren but the results are unpredictable. This also got me thinking about Kaladin's connection with Syl. The more he aligned his actions with her beliefs (for lack of a better word) the more she seemed to be brought into the physical realm. Is this connection at work again?
  23. Sorry if this topic was already covered..... buuuuut; What exactly are cryptics? Meaning what form of spren are they? They don't seem to be Cultivation spren. So what are they the cognitive representation of? Longshot answer: Maybe Cryptics are the spren of lighteyes. Jasnah does describe them as the lighteyes of Shadesmar. Also Syl calls them liespren and Kaladin is always going on about how much the lighteyes don't keep their word.
