Is Nightblood more powerful than ordinary spren shardblades?

Nightblood by a long shot.

What would happen if Nightblood and a Shardblade hit each other?

BRANDON SANDERSON

RAFO

FOOTNOTE

Brandon has stated that Nightblood is, "orders of magnitude," more powerful than a Shardblade.

I think there's a WoB that Nightblood would just consume a sprenblade it hits. I'll have to check.

Which is kind of terrifying in the case of living spren. Kill and consume the Spren and unmake a radiant.

Worst block ever.

QUESTION

If sprens are pieces of the god power, and investiture is the power of the god, then can Nightblood consume spren?

BRANDON SANDERSON

He could theoret- Yeah, he could totally consume spren. There's not even any “theoretically” to that.

I've wondered if it would have to be in the Cognitive Realm but as Nightblood cuts on all three realms I've assumed the same thing.

So if its not theoretical than has it already happenend?

Not necessarily. Using the adverb theoretically usually implies that within the spectrum of possibility, the event could occur, if it's not very likely. For example, it is theoretically possible for a lightweaver to create laser beams, however, practically it takes to much investiture. In this case, I think Brandon is just saying that practically, it's a possible scenario, there wouldn't need to be some super crazy set of events to make it happen.

Sharing what Extesian wrote in your topic on Nightblood vs Honorblades because it's very relevant.

But just because Nightblood can consume spren doesn't mean that the condition would simply be hitting each other. I am a bit hesitant to believe Nightblood could destroy a shardblade with one blow, as that would be a bit extreme. Granted, there is a lot of investiture needed to wield Nightblood safely, but it still seems like too much in terms of power.

Wow, all this talk of Nightblood is making me giddy. Anyone else excited about the next book? Its got my imagination running in circles like a dog chasing it's tail.

I keep picturing a scene with Szeth and Kaladin standing on a hill watching a massive army of nightmares.

Szeth says: the sword, it likes you.

Kal: your.. sword?

Szeth: yes, you are very good at finding evil.

Kal: ** snorts and points at the army ** Thats kinda hard to miss.

Szeth: ** smiles ** you did me a favour back there in the storms.. I've got this..

Szeth walks calmly towards the nightmare and dissapears over the crest. Than a black sheath flys in the air..

And sound dies...

Ok ok. I know thats probably not going to happen. Knowing Mr S its going to be even cooler.!

** sulks ** just excited is all..

:)
