Navy Seon he/him Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Another thing I notice as I write this is that in Awakening, Allomancy, AonDor, and Soulcasting the physical component is used up. I'm not sure what this means, but it is an interesting point. I dont think aons are really used up. Its more of a permanent effect. Aondaa lasts for a second to blast someone while aonashe lights up forever as far as we know. 3
Nashan’Elin he/him Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 I'd like to throw my 2 cents into this. The metals in Allomancy aren't consumed when burned, but they are changed. There's a WoB about it, and I found it, but I'm new and don't know how to quote those so I'm just going to paraphrase it. Brandon says that the molecular structure of the metals filters the power of Preservation through them. He says it's the same thing that happens with Aons on Sel. So here's my idea. When the metals/Aons/color(maybe), or the Physical components filter the power of a Shard through them, they change, maybe just enough so that the physical component is no longer usable. For instance, the metal still exists in the Allomancer's stomach, but it's no longer Allomantic. For the Aons, I think that the ones that are drawn in the air are weak, and the force of the Investiture filtering through them causes them to dissipate. The Aons drawn in materials, like metal or wood, persist because they are reinforced by the material. Which also partially explains Rosharan magic. Fabrials have a spren captured inside a gem. The gem reinforces the spren like an Aon drawn in something, but if too much Investiture is drawn through, the gem cracks. I'm still figuring this idea out, but maybe I'll reformat it and post it as something a little more readable later.
Master_Moridin he/him Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 *snip* So here's my idea. For instance, the metal still exists in the Allomancer's stomach, but it's no longer Allomantic. *snip* This wouldn't work, because as mentioned in the original trilogy some of the Allomantic metals are actually toxic, and they have to be burned away so they don't poison the Allomancer from sitting in their stomach too long. Unless you mean they're changed on a chemical level, in which case I personally can't see that working either as all the metals somehow being chemically changed to be non-toxic seems...far fetched, and also there'd still be chunks of metal in the person's stomach that they'd have to...pass...later, which probably would have been mentioned.
Ari he/him Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 doesn't Jasnah shoot out a bolt of stormlight when she turns those to bandits into smoke? That didn't require touch You should really start a new thread if you want to discuss a topic this old and it's died a natural death, FYI. It's possible you replied not realising how long ago the thread was from, of course.
