Hey guys!!!

So I was wondering whats your favourite Brandon line from any of his books.

Mine are the first ideals from the knight radiants "life before death, strength before weakness, journey before destination"

What's yours?

"While I am your friend, please understand that our goals do not completely align. You must not trust yourself with me. If I have to watch this world crumble and burn to get what I need, I will do so. With tears, yes, but I would let it happen."

“I don’t suppose you’d want to go destroy some evil, would you? the voice said. I’m not really sure what that means, to be honest. I’ll just trust you to decide.”

Interesting choice can u tell me why?

Because it's the first line of the Mistborn books (I think) and every time I read it, I get excited all over again about diving back into the world of Scadrial. Plus, Mistborn was the first Sanderson book I read.

I swear, my dear. Sometimes our conversations remind me of a broken sword."

She raised an eyebrow.

"Sharp as hell," Lightsong said, "but lacking a point.

I like this one: Sometimes the prize is not worth the costs. The means by which we achieve victory are as important as the victory itself.

Also this one: I try to avoid having thoughts. They lead to other thoughts, and—if you’re not careful—those lead to actions. Actions make you tired. I have this on rather good authority from someone who once read it in a book.

But I tend to like a lot of quotes...

Kaladin, Syl, and the Stormfather, ending with Kaladin speaking the Third Oath

Gives me shivers every time I read it. Pretty much my favorite lines ever in there.

“What is a man’s life worth?” Dalinar asked softly.

“The slavemasters say one is worth about two emerald broams,” Kaladin said, frowning.

“And what do you say?”

“A life is priceless,” he said immediately, quoting his father.

Dalinar smiled, wrinkle lines extending from the corners of his eyes. “Coincidentally, that is the exact value of a Shardblade. So today, you and your men sacrificed to buy me twenty-six hundred priceless lives. And all I had to repay you with was a single priceless sword. I call that a bargain.”

“At first glance, the key and the lock it fits may seem very different,” Sazed said. “Different in shape, different in function, different in design. The man who looks at them without knowledge of their true nature might think them opposites, for one is meant to open, and the other to keep closed. Yet, upon closer examination, he might see that without one, the other becomes useless. The wise man then sees that both lock and key were created for the same purpose.”

Sazed's words about the lock and key is one of those passages that just stuck with me ever since I read it.

I like these two lines from the Well of Ascension:

"Your king is a humble scholar and thinker, but he has the will of a warrior. He is a man who has the nerve to fight, and I think perhaps you have yet to see the best of him."-Tindwyl

"You wonder if we should just give up. Well, we're not going to do that. Kell wouldn't let us, and so we won't let ourselves. We'll fight, and we'll die with dignity. Then, the city will burn but we'll have said something. The Lord Ruler pushed us around for a thousand years, but now we skaa have pride. We fight. We resist. And we die."-Clubs

I like parts of the Way of Kings quoted in the Way of Kings:

"I understood in a moment of stillness. Those candle flames were like the lives of men. So fragile. So deadly. Left alone, they lit and warmed. Let run rampant, they would destroy the very things they were meant to illuminate. Embryonic bonfires, each bearing a seed of destruction so potent it could tumble cities and dash kings to their knees." - Nohadon

There are so many amazing things I could quote. I'll stick to four:

"A man discovers himself when he's alone. There's only one person to chat with, only one person to blame." - The Bands of Mourning

"'People,' Shai said, rising to fetch another seal, 'by nature attempt to exercise power over what is around them... Or why your employer hired you in the first place.'" -Shai, The Emperor's Soul

"It wasn't just the Stormlight. Teft had only a fragmentary recollection of the things his family had tried to teach him... It perfected." - The Way of Kings

"Fitch stood directly above Joel and Melody and just watched... It became six on two. Even that should have been impossible odds. It wasn't." - The Rithmatist

Obviously I didn't put the whole quotes on here, but I put the beginning and end of each section, and marked the missing parts with the classic... There you have it. My favorite of the four is Shai's quote.

I don't have the actual line, but I loved it when the woman was accusing Patern of being a Voidbringer, and pattern described a Voidbringer and told her if she wanted to see one, try looking in a mirror.
