The Most Obvious Worldhopper

Friends, gather around. I have uncovered the greatest secret of all time. Perhaps this has been revealed before and, if it has, bless the Sharder who first found it. If it has not been revealed before, or if this post can reach just one more person and help them understand the depth to which Brandon has prepared the Cosmere for our enjoyment, then I think this post is not in vain.

I quote from Elantris, page 466 and 467 of the Kindle version:

Quote

Ahead, Raoden grabbed a long stick from the ground, then he started to run, dragging the length of wood behind him.

This is where "Raoden" fixed Elantris by adding the chasm line to the city. Or, rather, this is where THE STICK fixed Elantris! Compare this to the following passage from Words of Radiance page 143 and 144 of the Kindle edition:

Quote

[Shallan] could feel the sticks -- but as she looked into this strange realm, her fingers also found one of the glass beads that had surged up beneath her.

[...]

"I am a stick." he said. He sounded satisfied.

Is it not suspicious that one of the beads that "surged" up to Shallan would happen to be a... nay, THE stick? It is, to me, quite obvious that the stick Raoden used to add the chasm line to Elantris is the exact same stick Shallan communicated with after the santhid rescued her. Note how the stick Shallan is speaking to "sound satisfied"... perhaps this stick was feeling so satisfied because it knew that it had been, literally and figuratively, instrumental in saving Elantris from the Dakhor monks! Perhaps this particular stick is now deeply embroiled in the fight against Odium in the Roshar system and, therefore, simply could not turn to fire for Shallan because the stick still had so much work to do. Perhaps Brandon Sanderson has given us a massive clue as to the fate of the Cosmere and we have been distracted by some doofus named Hoid (or whatever) and missed this obvious clue given in the very first published work! Also, lest we forget, there was an entire chapter of missing information about the stick that Sanderson gave us - I will quote the relevant portions of the chapter below!

Quote

I am a stick.
I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick.
I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick.
I am a stick? I am a stick.
I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick. I am a stick.
I am a stick.
I am a stick.
I am a stick.

I propose a re-read of every Cosmere work with a distinct emphasis on finding out what the stick has been up to! I would wager that we can find the stick in each published work, quietly providing assistance to the characters of the book and not at all upset that Hoid (or whomever) has been soaking up all the glory!

Truly, the stick is the worldhopper we need to focus on if we plan on teasing out more details on the Cosmere.

Found in Warbreaker

when Vivenna practices Awakening

Quote

She eyed her clothes, which were now completely gray. Out of curiosity, she tried Awakening the rope again. Nothing happened. She picked up a stick, the Awakened the rope. It worked this time, the stick losing its color, though it took a lot more Breath.

Hmmm, is it suspicious that Vivenna noticed how it took "a lot more" breath? Perhaps because the stick she was using is a heavily invested stick worldhopper no?

She sighed, raising it for him. He used a stick to prod at pockets on the ripped clothing. This man had been killed by a pack of tuskrun, larger predators—almost as large as a man—that prowled mostly by day. Their movement patterns were predictable unless one happened across one of Patji’s Fingers in bloom.

Brave stick must have been helping this other trapper before they were set upon by the predators. Notice how integral finding this particular trapper was to the end of the book. Coincidence? I think not.

Great finds @Brightness Enna and @FiveLate! Keep it up Sharders! We will unravel the mystery of the stick worldhopper!

“Please,” Shallan said to the sphere. “I need you to become fire.” Pattern buzzed, speaking with a new voice, interpreting the sphere’s words. “I am a stick,” he said. He sounded satisfied. “You could be fire,” Shallan said. “I am a stick.” The stick was not particularly eloquent. She supposed that she shouldn’t be surprised. “Why don’t you become fire instead?”“I am a stick.”“How do I make it change?” Shallan asked of Pattern. “Mm . . . I do not know. You must persuade it. Offer it truths , I think?” He sounded agitated. “This place is dangerous for you. For us. Please. Speed.” She looked back at the stick. “You want to burn.”“I am a stick.”“Think how much fun it would be?”“I am a stick.”“Stormlight,” Shallan said. “You could have it! All that I’m holding.” A pause. Finally, “I am a stick.”“Sticks need Stormlight. For . . . things . . .” Shallan blinked away tears of fatigue. “I am—”“— a stick,” Shallan said. She gripped the sphere, feeling both it and the stick in the physical realm, trying to think through another argument. For a moment, she hadn’t felt quite so tired, but it was returning— crashing back upon her. Why . . . Her Stormlight was running out.

A short Time later...341

She’d meant it lightheartedly, but his expression only darkened further. “You think I’m as dumb as that stick.” Stop insulting my stick. The words came to her mind, and almost to her lips, unbidden. She should have been better at holding her tongue, considering her upbringing.

And finally...834

We want to beat that highstorm, right?”“You’re the one I want to beat,” she grumbled. “With a stick.”“What was that?”“Nothing,” she said, standing up and trying to make something of her frazzled hair.

Clearly....stick left Shadesmar and became Shallons traveling companion !!!!!!!

I don't know about traveling companion, but it has clearly imprinted on her, and remains mentally connected to her to this day. It seems to exhibit traits much like Nightblood, speaking directly into her mind. I propose that Stick is actually more powerful than Nightblood, at least in this aspect, considering it didn't just speak to her, but nearly through her. Luckily Shallan  is mentally strong enough to hold back the mental compulsions of Stick. I wander if it was her mental strength that saved her from Sticks commands, or if it was a weakening due to distance though. I'd have to assume it was distance based on the fact that Stick was mentally superior to Shallan while in hand. Proof being Shallans inability to soul cast Stick into flame. What ever the reason, I believe we can safely assume that Stick is a force to be reckoned with... Maybe in the upcoming Nightblood book, we will actually witness a showdown between Nightblood and Stick...

Wasn't Serene's nom-de-guerre "Lecky Stick"?

It was, indeed.

Additionally, [AU image spoiler?]

Upon closer inspection, the constellation in which Taldain resides seems to be essentially a giant, powerful stick.

A clever hint as to why the stick had the, dare I say, Autonomy to resist Soulcasting!
