Yes, but it's worth noting that its lack of nutritional merit is well known, and it isn't seen as fine cuisine by anyone. A common gag will have a character create "appetizers" from spray cheese, just to show how UNcultured they are. I for one can't stand the stuff. It's got this weird plasticky texture and the cheese taste is equal parts fake and oversalted. I haven't eaten it in years and I don't plan to break that record.
Oversleep Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 (edited) No, that's... *checks translations*... uh-oh. That's blue cheese, but that kind is a special kind of cheese (it has to do with a special production process). But there is normal cheese (as in "yellow cheese") which can be in a different colour because of the various spices added to it. Green, blue (actual blue color. I think it was with lavender), orange and so on. If you're ever in Netherlands, buy some cheese. (I really like one with chili pepper). That blue cheese which @I_am_a_Stick posted is like that because of the mold: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mold#Food_production It's a special kind of mold, it's not actually rotten or anything. So the difference in size is smaller than sugested here. Anyway, I wonder, are cars with manual transmission really so rare in US? But Poland is actually Central Europe... So the map really shows just western Europe and Scandinavia. That's like more than half Europe missing. O.o EDIT: I'll just add that the blue part of the blue cheese is mold. It' acctually pretty good, but I blue cheese has a little too strong taste for me. I like Camembert though, which has white mold on top. Edited August 15, 2016 by Pestis the Spider

Is that the "fancy Swiss cheese" blue? If it's a different colour because it's got spices in it, fine. But orange cheese that just happens to be orange....no thanks.

In UK, for example, it's so much easier to find orange cheddar than normal white cheddar. They love it here.

Yes, it's actually yellow, but pretty light yellow. And sometimes the orange cheddar also may look like really deep yellow colour. It's not as orange as for example Red Leicaster. People just call things simplifying their colour. EDIT: I just checked Kosher Cheddar and it is actually yellow. It's darker than white cheddar and lighter than orange cheddar. Interesting. Orlion Blight he/him Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Here's a sage derby cheese (as mentioned before, it's the spice that gives it it's color)

Delightful Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Oh and there's sweet/dry, and they have different percentages alcohol . I think that's my sum total of wine knowledge. Ooh and the labels often have ridiculous stories like "a maiden went frolicking in the meadows and stumbled upon our wonderful grapes and now the wine makes you burp rainbows" 2
Renoux she/her Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Quote Barbera. Burgundy. Carménère. Chianti. Grenache. Moscato. Petite Sirah. Riesling. Sauvignon Blanc. Blaufränkisch. Cabernet Franc. Chardonnay. Gamay. Grüner Veltliner. Malbec. Pinot Grigio / Gris. Rosé Wine. Syrah & Shiraz. ... Bordeaux. Cabernet Sauvignon. Chenin Blanc. Gewürztraminer. Merlot. Nebbiolo. Pinot Noir. Rioja I don't know what any of these mean, but they're types of wine, possibly found on the internet. I'm so refined. I even burp rainbows. 2

TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Heh. Every time I hear "Pinot noir" I remember a commercial where the guy takes a sip of wine and tells his date, "Ah, Pinot noir. Spanish for 'peanut of the night.'" 1

I think they're grape types? Yes, those are species of grapes. You also have fortified wine, like port and sherry, where you add liquor (usually a grape liquor) to the wine. A wine's terroir is the terrain it was grown in, thus a chardonnay from grapes in California will have a different taste because of what the soil contributes than a chardonnay from Australia. Also, a wine can be named after the geographical location it was made. So a Sur- Rhône is a wine grown and made in a district in France corresponding to the southern portion of the Rhône river (though good, the really fancy Rhône wine is in the Northern portion). 1
