That, unfortunately, is due to the concept of Twitter advertisement. Simple and click-baity. At least it wasn't a list. "Ten reasons millennials do not buy diamond: number seven will blow your mind!"

Those. Are. The. Worst.

Particularly when it looks like an otherwise reasonable article but instead of a normal title its "until she did this one thing.."

actually it reminds me of a suspense thing in Writing Excuses: where saying 'there was something mysterious at the door!' And it turns out to just be a cat is bad writing vs "there was scratching at the door. They opened it to find a werewolf there, about to pounce" which is good writing because it's not cheap bait and switch it's actual substance.

Just

argh

stupid clickbait.

And then I feel even less intelligent on the odd occasion that I fall for it.

"What happened next will make you cry..." stupid click bait!

Your example reminds me of the Simpson's rendition of The Raven. In the poem, there's a knocking at the door, which when opened revealed nothing. At this point the following conversation occurred:

Bart: You know what's scarier than nothing?

Lisa: What?

Bart: Anything!

This is amazing.

It reminds me of the only other really short story I'm familiar with, They're Made Out Of Meat .

autocomplete suggested "made out of babies" :o

Babies are made of meat, to technically it holds true :P

Then why not gear the article in that direction—"Millennials Aren't Buying Diamonds—What That Means for the Global Economy"? Granted, I haven't read the article, but if it is indeed more about what economic impact the lack of diamond purchases by millennials will have, then "Why Aren't Millennials Buying Diamonds?" is not only misleading, but also asking to be taken out of context and mocked.

"How Dare the Peasants Realize They Don't Need to Buy Diamonds?"

Oh, we're talking about driving now? Allow me to share a tale of sheer idiocy in Utah, USA:

So I pulled up to a red traffic light yesterday. I was the front person in the right lane of a road that had two regular lanes to go straight through the intersection plus one lane only for people turning left. The light turns to a green left arrow. So what should happen next is basically like this diagram (only the yellow and black cars are relevant):

Turns_NV.jpg

At least, it would be if Utah drivers had any common sense or knowledge of American traffic laws... The people in the straight-through lane beside me (a train of like 5 cars!) just bulled their way through the intersection, heedless of the fact that it was not their turn and the left-turners on the other side would have been completely justified if they had run them over.

'Round these here parts, we call that there thing, "Brazenly running a red light."

I don't think so. There's an aspect of diamond buying where it is not done because millennials think they are worthless. This would have implications for the economy of diamond selling (the Economist writing about economy matters? Gasp!)

And being in debt does not necessarily mean no disposable income (Hamilton once called national debt a "blessing." Jefferson disagreed but had huge debt and managed to own a plantation. Previous generations, instead of having school debt had/have mortgages. Soul crushing debt is not a new condition)

It's interesting, the actual headline was way more subdued. I wasn't actually able to read the whole thing because you need a subscription, but it was typical interestingly dry Economist fashion.

This whole firestorm is because they phrased the tweet in the worst way possible. As our conversation here indicates, our generation does value diamonds less and that has interesting implications on that market.

The way they phrased it was really stupid and condescending.

I'm currently on vacation in Quincy, Massachusetts. So I decided to go on a "get yourself lost/you're lucky you live in the age of GPS" tour. It was fun, I even ended up where I wanted to be!...eventually!

Spoiler

I also checked out the bay area. As the waves crashed against the wharf, the wind carrying the scent of the sea as it caressed my face, I felt compelled to say out loud:

Angel:

Spoiler

Well, if the summary calling the evil pureblooded demons "Stormtroopers" hadn't tipped me off, I probably could've guessed from their rhetoric. Or their SS-like uniforms. Seriously, anyone who doesn't get the parallel has never heard of the Nazis or Hitler before.

Though I know the scene where their leader is outlining his brilliant plan to get rid of the "half-breeds" is supposed to be terrifying—and it is pretty disturbing—Angel was there. And by the time Leader Stormtrooper asks "Want to see how it works?" Angel had to be thinking this:

I mean, really. He had to be.

And that's why nobody wants diamonds anymore.<_<

Sorry, your Sparkliness, but you don't even qualify for anything but petty as far as tyrants go.

Huh... So I had a massive headache last night, so I went to bed really early. Then I woke up at 1:30 this morning and haven't been able to go back to sleep since. Now I'm visiting Ohio State university.

I think I'll watch one of the HunterXHunter films when I get home tonight.

I'm really hoping we stop somewhere nice for dinner....

So, I'm not sure if you've all seen this yet, but I suggested a little while ago that we start up a group to give weekly book reviews. Every week, one of us will put up a review of a book we've read recently (or not so recently, I guess). The first of these was published yesterday here, by Sunbird, who reviewed The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa. I suggest you all give it a look. I know I've got one more book on my "To-Read" list now...

EDIT:
Actually, that reminds me. @Chaos, would you rather we keep all the reviews in on one thread, or if we had a new thread each week for a new book review?

Can anyone tell me what this is? We found it in my house, but no one in my family recognizes it, and neither does Lord Google.

Hmm, kind of looks like a mix of the Sentry and Black Adam with an evil extra eye... which means that probably isn't it.

Not so fun fact about Warsaw:

When you walk around town you can track outlines of Jewish Ghetto from WW II thanks to marks like this one running through the city:

Yeah, that's Black Adam for sure. Looks like the New 52 version; the hood is a fairly recent addition to the look.

The eyes... I dunno. Trinity War, Pandora's Box? No idea. Certainly an odd little thing though.
