I remarked that I'll turn twenty this year.

My brother helpfully added that this means I've nearly wasted two whole decades.

Thank you, brother. :P

So . . . This conversation happened at the dinner table today:

Me: *passingly mentions a post by Kobold*

MomSpren: "You know he's probably some 40 year old guy living in his parents basement?"

Me: "No Mom, he's a 20 year old guy living in his parents basement. Gosh, get it right."

What does MomSpren think I am? :P:ph34r:

Time to go to bed so I can get up at 3:30 and get on a plane to Orlando. <_< I hate early mornings.

Once upon a time I worked 4-8 AM. Getting up was no fun (interestingly, though, I actually far preferred that shift to my current one - 3:30 PM to midnight - because I got to have the evenings to myself, which tends to be my most productive time)

Haha, that pretty much happened to me when trying to convince my parents to let me go to a signing with Silverblade. :P

For real? What was it like convincing her on your end?

Well, um, I kinda dug through your old featured forum members thread, and I found the one you wrote

Actually, he's a 19 year old guy.  He doesn't turn 20 until November (if his profile birthday is to be believed).

The key thing to remember is no one on this forum is going to dismember another Sharder. It's way too messy :P

We much prefer precisely placed spikes

So, I just took another look at that post. How did that manage to convince her of anything? To me, it looks like quite a train wreck!

I don't even know, I think I used that mixed with something you told me in a PM about your age.

Challenge accepted.

1 - Increase intelligence of a starfish.

2 - Get the starfish into Sanderson.

3 - ???

4 - Trophy.

Orlando can be fun though . . . What are you doing there? Is it a business trip or something?

Well when I get my eggs, I nobly brave the, ummm . . .

Palm trees.

Yeah.

Crap!  I forgot to boil eggs tonight!  I'll have to get up early enough to scramble one for my morning protein...

Do any of you read Korean? I've spent the past half hour attempting to use Google Translate to read a few lines in a comic. Using my mouse to draw Korean charters, then guessing which character the artist's handwriting was depicting is very annoying. And not entirely accurate.

I just finished White Sand. Completely spoiler free impression (spoilered anyway):

It was a good book. I'm slightly worried now that the graphic novel won't do certain scenes. Most of the more violent scenes you can imply rather than show explicitly, but I have no idea how there going to show one scene without it being grotesque. That scene was Morzathoth level messed up.

There are certainly brief walks into creepypasta in places, I feel, and the tone in some parts, especially towards the end, is quite grim. With Aether, they had a similar feel, but it was balanced and contrasted by light situational humour, which this didn't have nearly as much of. (Censored thing I want to say, but can't find a way of saying without at least implying a major plot point. If I can come back later to fix this, I will.)

All in all, I enjoyed the book. Parts of it showed that it was an earlier/draft version of Sanderson's work, but the plot and characters were interesting and thought provoking. I have goosebumps from a scene or two, but I'm sure almost anyone on the Shard that enjoyed Brandon's other works would probably enjoy this.

Admin's: I have no idea where the official spot for this is, so I'll just ask while I'm here: Would it be possible to join the Sand/Aether PM?

There are some free OCR (Optical Character Recognition) sites out there that can try to grab the characters right from the image.

You can imply things in a visual medium as well, I kind of like my gore and me levels of messed up, so Im hoping they show it, whatever it is XD

So got to the airport almost an hour and a half before my flight. Of course the American airlines kiosks were only (under)staffed by 2 people and I waited in line forever. Finally got through and took another eternity to get through the TSA line. Got to the gate and my flight had stopped boarding 2 minutes earlier. Plane was still there and everything, doors were just closed. Wouldn't let me on. Not a happy American airlines customer right now. Stuck in the airport until 9:10 when the next flight leaves. Piiiiiiissssed.
