(Mistborn 1-4 Spoilers) Lord Ruler Compounding

Radiant Returned

Recommended Posts

I'm sure this has already been answered somewhere, but I couldn't find it on the Wiki or any of the easily-accessed forums: Which specific Compound was the Lord Ruler using to keep from aging? The Gold-gold is what I assumed he used to heal (like Miles Hundredlives), but that compound didn't keep Miles from aging?

EDIT: Atium compounding. Brain fart. My bad.

I believe there's a wob stating that TLR made himself a really powerful allomancer while he was ascended. With that being the case he wouldn't need to much nicrosil to get that effect.

Also if I remember correctly TLR didn't know about nicrosil so that means he was just a really powerful allomancer using duralumin(if he knew about it I can't quite remember)

May I hijack this thread? Nicrosil is not something normally found or easily made, like iron or steel. How did TLR get enough to Compound to the level of being able to affect the metal in a piece of glass?

When you were God for five minutes it shouldn't be difficult to remake your soul into something overpowered. He isn't even a lerasium mistborn to begin with.

Plus, he could just store and tap normally as well. This won't explain his emotional allomancy, but it would for most other things.

Personally...one thing that bugs me about TLR...is how underpowered he seems once you find out EXACTLY what he should be able to do. Especially considering that he knows more about the 3 systems of magic than anyone else alive at the time.

Yeah...he's always young...he doesn't get hurt...he can tell when people are lying...he never forgets a face...his emotional allomancy is really strong...he can pierce copperclouds...he's crazy strong...he can move superfast...he can push and pull on metal really hard...

All of these things are intimidating by themselves...and combined are terrifying...but it just feels like he should be able to do more.

Am I the only one?

Yeah, I get that. Once you learning what he's actually able to do, the way he was defeated feels almost cheap, especially considering steel and zinc compounding.

Right.  Not only is he a omni compounder...but he spent time as an almost omniscient being...and has had a thousand years to practice.

You know all of those questions you have like, "if you were a pewter arm bloodmaker...would you be able to store health faster using pewter to supply extra health?"...HE KNOW THE ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION!

Even considering that certain rare metals would be almost impossible to find or make...and that he has to be very careful not to reveal too much info to the people around him...it just seems like he went down a little too easy...

A combination of not taking opponents seriously and Vin achieving the supposedly impossible via literal Deus Ex Machina (god and all) did him in sadly.

The guy can theoretically poke you in the forehead with one finger and blow your whole head off . . . before you could even blink. He can push trace metals, which all humans should have in them. Probably with the force of duralumin, and you'll be a bloodstain on the wall. Never mind the immortality issue, he ought to be able to wipe out entire cities in a matter of hours. He basically has dozens of I Win Buttons and invincibility hacks to boot, what more do you want from an invested being?

The push itself could probably be made lethal too though. That's the thing, he's so powerful that it shouldn't even really take effort. He slapped Kelsier to death in one hit after taking three spears to the chest without flinching.

Killing Vin isn't inherently difficult. He was just too busy venting his annoyance at the scenario unfolding (that has been done to death by now, in his opinion) to act seriously and then got taken down by a literal act of god.

Sitting around for 1,000 years, not having any opponents anywhere near his power, can make one "rusty"  ;)

Vin surprised him.  Humans make mistakes, and he was still technically just a human, albeit an extremely overpowered one.

Oh look, another Mistborn wants to kill me. How should I kill this time? Meh, it's so boring. I'll just call Inquisitors to do it for me.
What? Treason?!
Let's call the rest of the Inquisi... Oh they're dead.
First let's open with Soothing-powered depression, maybe they'll give up.
I'll just punch him. Oh, he ducked.
The traitor thinks I have spikes. Cute. You earn an elbow to the stomach.
The little Mistborn wants to help him. Time for some good ol' Steelpushing. Let's get rid of the metals here, I don't want her to escape.

“What did you think, child? To defeat me? Am I some common Inquisitor, my powers endowed fabrications?”
She wants to escape. Let's stick to the steel; Feruchemy this time. Let's see how she flies.
Oh, she's Pulling on my bracers. Clever, but not enough. Back to Steelpushing.
...Aaaand a broken leg.

“You think this is the first time someone has tried to kill me, child? I’ve survived burnings and beheadings. I’ve been stabbed and sliced, crushed and dismembered. I was even flayed once, near the beginning.”
I am so tired of this.
“I am God.”God cannot be killed,”“God cannot be overthrown. Your rebellion—you think I haven’t seen its like before? You think I haven’t destroyed entire armies on my own? What will it take before you people stop questioning? How many centuries must I prove myself before you idiot skaa see the truth? How many of you must I kill!”
And this traitor.
“How dare you?” “How dare you?” “After what I gave you? I made you superior to regular men! I made you dominant!”
WHAT? Did she just say my name?
How dare she say that? HOW DARE SHE?
“You know nothing!” “You know nothing of that!”
Let's see her say that again after I make her one with the wall!
AAARGH MY METALMINDS!
NONONONONONONONO!
Is this really how I die?
What they have done...

This is the end of TLR from his viewpoint. I can easily see why he didn't bother with any of the fancy tricks he could do.

No...I get it.  He literally had 2 gods conspiring against him...the puny mortal that did him in only pulled it off by somehow inexplicable harnessing the power of one of those gods...and as oversleep so eloquently illustrated (upvote by the way)  a thousand years of having no equal is likely to make you more than a little complacent...just sayin'

Well, one god conspired, and the other created something out of his power out of necessity and this is the result.

Secret History spoiler:

Leras was actually visibly frustrated (bordering rage) that Rashek was slain. The man was a perfect specimen of unchanging eternity, after all, questionable methods notwithstanding. The mists didn't exactly have the choice of behaving any other way with Vin present.

I feel like that was more because at that point most of his mind was gone, and almost completely subsumed by preservation's intent. But thats just my thought on it
