Enhancing Enhancement Magic

This is a really stupid question, but it didn't occur to me until after I read all the books, so I just wanted to check. If a misting has a bunch of, say, steel, which they then have nicrobursted, it's going to release more power than if they had a small amount of the steel, right? Like nicrobursting a tiny bit of metal might let you push something pretty fast, but nicrobursting a bunch of steel will let you push it much, much faster? If that's true, the potential for extremely powerful bursts of allomancy is high.

The power obtained from a given amount of metal is constant. However, the faster you burn it, the more power over time you obtain.

Duraluminum and nicrosil force the burned metal into superflare - the metal is burned all at once and all the power you can obtain from it is released in this brief moment.

It seems logical that the more metal you have the more power you will get, but the more we approach the limit of infinitely short moment, the less relevant it becomes.

But I wonder what would happen if we lined up nicrobursts and each nicrobusted the one standing before him? The second one would have his nicrosil in superflare, so his nicrobusting would be very powerful. With that very powerful flare he nicrobursts the next Nicro. And so on, and at the end we have a Misting of another metal. I wonder how much power can be obtained with such a brief superflare?

Nicrosil and Duralumin speed up a burn drastically but it's not instantaneous, more metal should just let you sustain the burn for longer, not necessarily stronger.

Which is where nicrochaining comes in.

If amount X of steel normally gives a burn time of 30 minutes (CS), which can be condensed into let's say 10 seconds by a single nicroburst (NB-1)

then if NB-1 is bursted by a second nicroburst (NB-2), his 10 seconds of burning nicrosil would be condensed into a fraction of a second, maintaining their power level,

so CS would have his 30 minutes steelpushing condensed into a fraction of a second instead of 10 seconds, giving a proportional increase in power, logically speaking.

If you gather a long enough nicrochain, with enough metal supplies, I think eventually someone's going to turn into a Sliver because of all the Preservation going through them in such a short time.

Or at the very least, instant savanthood.

You will probably break yourself.

If Savanthood is a stage obtained in long time stressing your body through allomancy (and it's a dangerous status).

Probably an UltraBurst of power will end to kill you or at least some aspect of yourself.

A circle of Nicrobursts being given a constant stream of Nicrosil, boosting each other in a massive circuit. One Coinshot in the middle, to take the end result. They lay their hands on his shoulders. The moment of truth.

The process of becoming a savant means slowly but surely wearing troughs into your soul as you use magic over and over, much like a stream wears away stone as it passes. That perfectly and exactly describes what does not happen here. Instead of the slow erosion of a stream, this is a water drill carving trenches into stone. The Coinshot attains something a step beyond savantism and instantly dies in a massive wave of steel, tearing the Nicrobursts apart with their own blood iron and cracking the earth nearby straight down to bedrock. Scardian scientists abandon the project, but unanimously agree that it was "awesome"

What's more awesome than how broken The Lord Ruler was?

A Coinshot setting himself on fire due to air friction.

A Coinshot launching himself into spaaaaaace.

A Coinshot launching so hard that when he dies his Cognitive Aspect lands in Nalthis.

A Coinshot landing on Endowment in the middle of a Returning offer

Basically there is nothing about this that isn't awesome and if they put me in charge of Scadrial I would regularly launch people at other planets as my method of first contact.

Sacrificing Nicrobursts, a Coinshot, and probably an entire area (extreme force on whatever anchor you're using) just to send a gory hello to someone (which, btw, would require some killer astronomy and math skill)...

That might just be the worst thing I've ever heard. How marvelous.

We figure it's more meaningful if the astronomy team gets the honor being the Coinshots. Sure a Hemalurgic Coinshot is weaker, but at these power levels it doesn't really matter. I imagine they were thrilled to hear that they were the first people to ever reach another planet's cognitive expanse through vertical travel.

Not to mention possibly shifting Scadrial out of orbit. Unlikely, I know, but it's already a repeat offender.

I mean, it wouldn't shift it *completely* out of orbit. Maybe it would make it a lot more eccentric (higher difference in distance from the sun at its closest and farthest points). Which could conceivably kill off everyone on the planet in about half a year. But, y'know, no big deal.

Loving the Princess Bride shout out!

Favorite movie. I always take the chance to quote it when I can. :D

Princess Bride is the kind of thing that's sappy enough to make me cringe physically, but it's just so sappy and hilarious that it goes off the chart and loops right back around to being enjoyable.

Gotta thank my old high school teacher for putting it up for lunch period movies.

Or at least would threaten to do so.  But then you know you'd have Harmony sigh heavily and put the planet back, shaking his head at the kids' antics.
