Havoc Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 “No longer. Recent advances have made civilization here too dangerous. Allowing it to continue risks further advances we cannot control, and so we have decided to remove life on this sphere instead. Thank you for your service; it has been accepted. You will be allowed to serve in another Realm.” That sounds very similar to the Vorin belief that doing well at your Calling allows you to serve in the Tranquilline Halls. I wonder if the Vorin belief was inspired by Trell, or if all Shards can build up persona armies in this manner. 1
TheOneKEA Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 I perceived the end of this scene as the forced capture of the mind of Edvarn in the Cognitive a realm, to be used for some nefarious purpose.
Argent he/him Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Odd, I actually didn't reach much into this. It sounded a little ritualistic to me, something traditional one might say before somebody dies. 3
RShara she/her Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 I was thinking they'd be able to make/let him accomplish things for them in the Cognitive Realm, or, even the Spiritual one. We know Kelsier was pretty active in the CR after he died. And they seem pretty well able to manipulate the Cosmere to do what they want. 2
Voidus Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Odd, I actually didn't reach much into this. It sounded a little ritualistic to me, something traditional one might say before somebody dies. My views too.
scottwo Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 My views too. I'd agree, but for 'Realm' being capitalized. That bespeaks cosmere significance to me.
Argent he/him Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 I'd agree, but for 'Realm' being capitalized. That bespeaks cosmere significance to me. I'd argue it could imply simply Cosmere awareness.
JosephOfHathsin he/him Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 I'll be honest I had some offhand thought that maybe some characters die on one shardworld and are kinda reborn in another. Mostly I thought this because there was a railway robber in the beginning named Dunny and I wanted it so bad to be Dunny from Way of Kings lol
Pathfinder Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 I do not think this is the case, but that quote also reminded me of Stormlight because of the "it has been accepted", just like how Syl and the Stormfather said "the words are accepted"(paraphrase).
emailanimal he/him Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Odd, I actually didn't reach much into this. It sounded a little ritualistic to me, something traditional one might say before somebody dies. My immediate reaction was that they actually decided to move him to a different world and Uncle Suit has just became a worldhopper, but I may just be taking things too literally.
Ari he/him Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 It's likely they're just talking about the fact that the soul moves briefly to the Cognitive and then Beyond, both of which could be called other Realms. I didn't ascribe any significance to it either.
DreamEternal Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 (edited) I actualy believe the creature was being literal. It seemed to not have a physical body, stealing one from a beggar, so I assumed "serving in another Realm" actualy meant he was turned into one of them. Weird way to get a promotion. ccstat he/him Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 This jumped out to me the same way as the OP. I don't think we'll see Suit again, but I do suspect he was spirited away (ha!) somewhere and that we will see similarly stolen cognitive aspects in the future. We don't know how the Heralds are packed off to Braize when they die, but at least in that special case there are ways to shunt people to where you want them to go.
aheerema he/him Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Another possibility is that just as Harmony greets souls between realms after they die, Trell is able to greet those who have sworn themselves to his service...
