I think this has been mentioned elsewhere, but since this thread has been resurrected I might as well add it here for completeness:

I've always thought there's a good chance that the black gemstone is lined to the following passage in the WoR letter to Hoid:

Yeah that's one of the things I think may link the stone with the Aether of Night. Just a feeling more than anything.

That line is referring to previous aliases of Hoid's: "Topaz" (which Hoid alludes to when talking with Dalinar once) and "Hoid" (which the draft of Liar of Partinel established was his old mentor's name).

Actually I'm not sure it's been confirmed that the first part refers to the name Topaz. The wording doesn't seem to match that interpretation.

The wording is a little strange, but maybe Hoid faked his death while going by Topaz?

There was a reason Hoid was named Topaz, just like there was a reason Rock was named numuhukumakiaki'aialunamor.  The question might be referring to that reason.

It is referring to Hoid's Topaz Incarnation, as I asked a question regarding the gemstone and the moon sceptre at London's SoS signing, to which Brandon said it was to do with hoid's past

I saw somewhere else that it might be a different gemstone from the Liar of Partinel, but as it's restricted to talk about and I haven't seen the draft, I can't comment on the likelihood of that

2) In the Second Letter Frost mentions a gemstone; is this the Moon Sceptre?

Brandon - No, no it isn't but good question. It is actually in relation to Topaz, a name used frequently in his past

When did Vasher...and Nightblood...show up on Roshar?

Between the end of Nightblood and the start of Way of Kings.  Yes I realize this answer is entirely useless.

Nah, Im goin along Manas vein. Its Gollum trapped in tht sphere. Poor lil guy. Who knew he was a worldhopper!

Well, Gollum did fall into Mount Doom, which is obviously Saurons Shardpool. And who else do we know that uses shardpools to world hop? And collects magical artifacts of great power? Calling it now, Gollum is Hoid. Edited by Cephandrius

Also before Warbreaker. There are WoB that state that the creation of Nightblood was inspired by seeing shardblades from a previous visit to Roshar

I'm pretty sure that black sphere is Nergaoul's embodiment in the Physical Realm (Nergaoul is the Unmade responsible for the Thrill). It's notable that the Thrill has always been particularly potent in Alethkar, which would be consistent with Nergaoul having long resided there, as well as Alethkar's near-continuous conflict.

Likewise, when in WoR Taravangian and his followers arrive in Vedenar, Adrotagia notes that the Thrill seems to have become much more powerful there, and suggests that Nergaoul is likely nearby, which could itself be a result of Szeth hiding the sphere away in the kingdom.
