+Slowswift Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Many of them weren't intended for children at all. They were horror stories, ghost stories, folk tales told by, to, and for adults to pass the time. There were some meant to scare kids straight, but the notion that fairy tales are for children is a pretty recent (and Disneyfied) thing. I think we found Morzathoth's new calling in life. 3
Zathoth Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 I think we found Morzathoth's new calling in life. I have a thread with a couple horror stories you know <.< Anyway I am trying to mix innocence, magic and wonder with surrealism and horror. Nightmares in Pastel and so on.
Young Bard he/him Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 I don't think this is random enough... but I sort of accidentally found an early version of the UK edition of the Bands of Mourning cover. So far as I can tell, the image hasn't been publicly released. Source. 1

TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Any tips for writing when you feel like everything you have ever and will ever put to paper sucks and the only reason people read it is because they don't want to hurt your feelings? 3

I like it. Problem is that I cant really find anything that has quite the same tone I have in my head, so I have no one to really copy, so I just have to mix things XD Im not claiming to be original or anything, just that I havent found the same feeling I have in my head outside my head. Any tips for writing when you feel like everything you have ever and will ever put to paper sucks and the only reason people read it is because they don't want to hurt your feelings? Who are you writing for? Are you writing to please others or because you think it is fun and because you want to create? Of course it feels great when someone enjoys what you have created, but it doesnt really matter if you enjoy what you are doing. It is gravy, the best gravy ever, but just gravy. Creation is the main course. Thats my thoughts on the matter and now lets see who ninjad me... EDIT: Ah, Kobold, you ridiculously upvoted Ninja. Edited December 5, 2015 by Morzathoth 3

With my stories, it's because I had this plot idea or a character or a scene or something that I couldn't get out of my head, but when I write I'm afraid I'm not going to do the idea justice. Not saying that in a "I have such amazing ideas" sense, but more like "I've seen a thousand different books with great ideas and poor execution; will I be one of them?" With the Potterfic I'm working on, I know for a fact people want to keep reading, but I worry I'll disappoint them. It's happened before. I mean, it was years ago and I was a dumb teenager who was bound to drive her only decent fanfic off the rails sooner or later, but I don't want to do it again. And it's like—in another thread, someone downvoted my post about that Potterfic, so someone is already sick of hearing about it. With job applications, it's simple: I write to please a mysterious council known as the Hiring Committee, who will probably read my resume and throw it out with a derisive laugh. Know that there are people banging their heads against their keyboards with the precise frustration you feel, except that they keep muttering "Why can't I write like TwiLyght?" to themselves. Thanks. 3
+Slowswift Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 i hate christmas, but i made myself a christmas icon anyway Why do you hate Christmas?
Kestrel she/her Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Why do you hate Christmas? i'm not christian, it has no meaning to me. besides, even if i was i'd hate it because the true meaning of it has gone down the drain because of all the commercializing.

Zathoth Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 i hate christmas, but i made myself a christmas icon anyway You ma'am need to stop thinking of it like "Christmas" and start thinking of it like "Getting free stuff by a bearded jolly old fella". By the name of Satan. Haaaaail Saaaaataaaaan. No wait thats Santa. Haaaaail Saaaaaantaaaa I don't know. With my stories, it's because I had this plot idea or a character or a scene or something that I couldn't get out of my head, but when I write I'm afraid I'm not going to do the idea justice. I know, but you will never be good enough to do your ideas justice if you never take the risk of doing them injustice. You know theres a random down vote fairy floating around, Im trying to counter it by being a random up vote fairy, but I cant be everywhere and even if they were tired of it, screw them. You dont create for the people who dislike you, you create for yourself first and then people who enjoy your work, then theres for people who may be giving you money and so on... of course Im all for creating just to annoy the people who dislike you anyway, pissing people off is hilarious. Brandon doesnt get depressed when people doesnt like his books, he tells them to read something else, you cant please everyone, you shouldnt please everyone, so please the people you can please. That being yourself and whoever likes your work. "The Elusive High Council of Hiring" Stop Ninjaing me the "Show posts" button isnt working DX 4

Cut a lime in half. Add some salt. Suck the juice out of one half as you contemplate the sunset. Be sure to mutter , "¡Ay, los niños bandidos!"from time to time to get the full effect. 3

We're interested in your fiction because we love your writing and want to see where you take it. You'd have to try very, very hard to disappoint us, and even if you went utterly off the rails we'd only give smiling, constructive criticism while we eagerly awaited what you'd come up with next. We're your fans now, and you're not gonna get rid of us easily. And don't pay any mind to the dumb downvote. There are people who downvote Brandon Sanderson on Reddit, so don't take the opinions of random anonymous haters as being of any value. In other news, here's something I never knew I needed before now. 6
