karaokeang she/her Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 (edited) I am totally thinking about blowing off my skee ball league and going to this signing but I would feel soooooo guilty. If I were to go, I would use my questions to bring in an Surge/Order graphc/table and ask him to point out inaccuracies as I fangirl all over him. Decisions, decisions. ETA: I just bailed on my partner... So what questions should I ask? I will be monitoring this board until I get up to actually speak to Brandon. Well We had a big list but then it got made smaller but then he said he could stay after and ask more stuff then so maybe stuff from the big list in this thread and also from the ultimate list of questions that we have somewhere I think argent akes a lot of those last week though so you shoudl make sure not to ask the same thing twice that would be a waste I think. Or One thing I want to know is how does it feel like to use feruchemy because saze talks about having reserves and cheking his reserves but never what it feels like to use them all we know is what it feels like to have a shadow of a reserve from someone else does a full metalmind feel like its hot kinda or what?
Argent he/him Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 />ETA: I just bailed on my partner... So what questions should I ask? I will be monitoring this board until I get up to actually speak to Brandon. I think I love you :-D
karaokeang she/her Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Okay. Here are the questions I have picked from the Ultimate List due to my interests and knowledge of the cosmere that I could speak to. I have looked through most of the signing reports and I don't think these have been asked/answered. Let me know if one should be removed. Is Cultivation's Shardholder still alive? Has her Shard been Splintered? Are Honorspren Splinters, do they hold Splinters or do they identify Splinters? I added the blue text to this question. Are the Worldsingers an order of Radiants? Did Axies the Collector imagine alespren, or are they real? Ashe says “We had nothing to do with the fall of the city. There is nothing to fear from a Seon. I wish… But , well, that is irrelevant.” What was he going to say? What does he wish? Do you have a particular, canonical term for a person who holds a Shard, other than Shardholder (which 17th Shard currently uses)? You've said that a person who holds a Shard actually becomes a Shard. We get that. But what would you call someone like Sazed? I will also have the table to possibly have him look at and ask if there are any inaccuracies if I haven't seen someone do it before me.
Robot Aztec Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Culciation is alive it says it on coppermind that she is and I think that it is just a shard the only other word that a person with a shard is called by is a avatar but that is Saze personally wanting to be the avatar of preservation even though he also has ruin too i am not really sure it will get more than just saying ''i call it a shard''.
WeiryWriter he/him Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Okay. Also, Cultivation's shardholder is still alive and honorspren can be termed splinters.
Shardlet he/him Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 If you are concerned about confusion, when speaking of shardplate and shardblades, don't use the term 'shard' or 'shards'. If you just really don't want to write it out all the time, use the terms 'plate' and 'blade'. Just reserve shard for speaking of shards of Adonalsium. If you would like to particular speak of the consciousness which is in possession of the shard, just take a few extra seconds to make that clear. Most of the confusion I have seen comes from people simply not taking the time to use clear terminology and grammar in their posts. Obviously, some leeway ought to be given to our members who speak a language other than English as their primary language.
Robot Aztec Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 But The tree hermalurgy and the questions on mind control drabs I wuold like but it is okay you can pick what you want to aks! Thakn You!
Kurkistan he/him Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 (edited) What's up with frame-of-reference for time bubbles? If you've got to objects stationary relative to one another in space, and you put a bubble around one of them, who's to say what vector it will move "faster" in? ------ So, as background, we have from Brandon that Inquisitors are capable of burning their own eyespikes, but at the expense of excruciating pain and/or weird soul-splicing. Either way, this tells us that Hemalurgic spikes (and potentially any piercing) are available as Allomantic reserves. (Source one, two). Question: If that is the case, then why didn't Vin lose her earring? It was Bronze, as it turns out, and she burned Duralumin and Bronze at the same time at least once, so shouldn't she have burned the earring away too? -I think that she might have had the earring in when she burned Aluminum in the first book, but I can't recall if the Inquisitors might have taken it. So I'll just go with the Duralumin instance. --We also have Marsh the Steel Inquisitor burning Steel and Duralumin and not dying. On that note, why don't spikes seem to show up as reserves, given that they are accessible? Also, do normal piercings follow the same burn rules as spikes, whatever they may be? Edited October 14, 2013 by Kurkistan
Argent he/him Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 (edited) My guess on this one is that it has to do with awareness, and maybe location of the metal. Inquisitors don't burn their spikes because they are metal reserves different from their "default" one - stomach, presumably*. The case is similar with Vin's earing. Alternatively, Vin's earing might be safe because for the longest time she is not aware that it is a source of Allomantic metal - so she doesn't "look" at it when she burns bronze. * Man, Allomancy is one weird magic system EDIT: A couple of interesting questions I think might have bigger implications: Have we seen the Heralds Nalan and Kalak in The Way of Kings? Adonalsium was Shattered into Shards; Shards can be Splintered into Splinters. Can Splinters be further reduced to another sentient form, do they turn into pure Investiture (when destroyed), or does something else happen? (What?) Are there any Type Four BioChromatic objects (other than Nightblood) on Nalthis at the time of Warbreaker? Seon Ien - it means "wisdom" according to the Ars Arcanum, but it's used pretty much exclusively for healing. Is this mismatch a mistake, or is it alright for Aons to syntactically mean one thing, but produce an effect different from their meaning? Edited October 14, 2013 by Argent
Robot Aztec Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Kurks didn't he arleady rafo the bubble frame of refence thingy just at Spokon i m not su4re that you iwll get another answer on that that quick i mean if he didndt say it then he wont say it now am i right?
Kurkistan he/him Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Kurks didn't he arleady rafo the bubble frame of refence thingy just at Spokon i m not su4re that you iwll get another answer on that that quick i mean if he didndt say it then he wont say it now am i right? The specific question was on a proposed answer to the dilemma: that you just anchor onto nearby objects, and that solves the issue. It was about the movement of the bubble, not objects within it.
Robot Aztec Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 (edited) However It moves in the bubble like if the bubble was a camera then it would be ljke playing the tape slower or palying the tape faster otherwise then they would fall out of the bubble because theye would all move to the left or they would all move to the right and so you have to say its with teh bubble and aksing where the bubble moves in space i think will get rafoed because it is a SECRET for the second or the third series. edDIt the tuymblr thing they asked about the duralumninunm flare with bubbles and he said that asking about it was SPOILERS for things in five books and he wouldnt answer so you shouldnt ask something that is going to be spoielrs I think but that is just my opinon and maybe he will change his mind I am not sure on that Edited October 14, 2013 by Robot Aztec
Kurkistan he/him Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 (edited) However, if it moves in the bubble like if the bubble was a camera then it would be like playing the tape slower or playing the tape faster: otherwise objects would fall out of the bubble because they would all move relative to the bubble. Therefore, it follows that frame of reference moves with the bubble, and where the bubble moves in space will get RAFO'd, I think, because it is a SECRET for the second or the third series. EDIT: In the Tumblr Q&A, they asked about the duraluminum flares with time bubbles and Brandon said that asking about it constituted SPOILERS for things in five books and he wouldn't answer, so you shouldn't ask something that is going to be RAFO'd. But that is just my opinion, and maybe he will change his mind; I am not sure on that. Yes Aztec, that's why we're being all sneaky. Honestly, this is a less "spoilery" question than Shardlet's, because it's not asking how you go about anchoring bubbles or anything like that: just that, given the brute fact of a bubble, how do objects behave within it. If we can't get this answered, then we'll know for sure that all time-bubble questions are out for the foreseeable future. This is nearly the only "basic" question left. Edited October 14, 2013 by Kurkistan
WeiryWriter he/him Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Two main questions I want cleared up are: "What is the likelihood that we will see the shardworlds explored in Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell and Sixth of the Dusk beyond those two stories?" "What is up with Aon Ien meaning Wisdom but being used for Healing in AonDor?"
cem he/him Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 If you have the opportunity, can you ask if no KR needs to breath while holding stormlight or is that just Windrunners? If every order has a "passive ability" like that, it might explain Shallan's Memory. I'm repeating but someone please ask about this. So, as background, we have from Brandon that Inquisitors are capable of burning their own eyespikes, but at the expense of excruciating pain and/or weird soul-splicing. This actually makes perfect sense to me. Metals are foci for Metallic Arts, right? Their molecular structure (IIRC) determines what happens when you Invest. For example, gold reveals your past self in Allomancy. But when you compound, even though you're burning the same metal you get a completely different effect. Which means Feruchemically charged gold and regular gold are different foci. So when you flare one with duralumin, the other one isn't touched. Same with Hemalurgy spikes. That's what I think anyway. Though of course, this doesn't explain why spikes don't show up as reserves. Maybe it's simply because the Allomancer doesn't expect them to show up, so ignores them.
karaokeang she/her Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 (edited) Okay quick questions. Have we confirmed all the heralds are alive at the end of wok? Can some pm me an updated chart with the steelhunt info and the beaverton confirmed info? I have a code and have read the extras. Edited October 14, 2013 by karaokeang
Argent he/him Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Okay quick questions. Have we confirmed all the heralds are alive at the end of wok? I asked. He RAFO'd.
karaokeang she/her Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Thanks for the charts. I am here sitting in the first pew, two girls with turquoise on.
Argent he/him Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 (edited) If you get a chance, and want to ask, see if Shardblades *have* to be swords. Like, could a Shardspear or Shardaxe be even theoretically possible. Edited October 14, 2013 by Argent
Robot Aztec Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 (edited) />/> I got the chart. Woohoo You are the man on the spot and really great too.Oh 3 more questions when the manywar was going on the well of ascension was going on at the same time are those related together? You can put breath in cadmium is that just breath or is it also Breath like the warbreaker breath and not like normal beeathing breath . And What does it look like if you watch Shallan go to shadesmar does she just disappear or fall into a magic hole or fade away or does she just sit there with her eyes closed?? Edited October 15, 2013 by Robot Aztec
Windrunner he/him Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 That last question was answered in that audio Eric posted recently. It can be either or. Most of the time Shallan just goes in with her eyes clothes, but Jasnah prefers to physical enter Shadesmar.
hoser he/him Posted October 15, 2013 Author Posted October 15, 2013 I think Shardlet will have the full report, but I got a few snippets. Brandon wouldn't say anything about Vanrial, not even saying whether the eye color differed from the Veden peasantry. Basically full RAFO, which maybe means there is something important there. The larkin have abilities relating to stormlight. I pulled out the chart of orders and surges. Apparently someone had also gotten most of what he was willing to reveal, but he said that the surge between orders 2 and 3 is Division, loosely based on weak/strong forces. He took pity on me, and said that there is an order called Bondsmiths and a surge based on the idea of surface tension. With the surface tension surge, you could snap a towel and make it stiff, for example. Enjoy! 3
