Delightful Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 .....because logically the first thing a girl will do in order to break free of rules and be liberated is to get pregnant and have a child's life completely and utterly dependant on her. #logic. Not that you can't be both liberated and a mother. But probably not as a teen. 1

Not that you can't be both liberated and a mother. But probably not as a teen. I meant more like, rebel against the rules in place, sleep with her boyfriend, and get pregnant as a consequence. But Mom seems to think that the way to keep that from happening is to put even more pointless rules in place, send her to a school where she has to wear slacks and polos every day, and think stifling her natural curiosity will make her less curious.

My parents tried that, and as a result, I broke both of my legs.
Seonid he/him Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Well crap. I was just coming here to complain about having school, full-time work, and a family to try and take care of. But my problems sound rather miniscule compared to that. So I'll just offer support instead. You're a better person than she thinks you are, Twi. And your sister will thank you one day for your example.

I don't know what kind of example I'm setting, honestly, changing my style and fleeing into the sunset as soon as I can, but I hope she manages to slip free of her control one day. And I don't think those are minuscule problems at all. They actually sound pretty challenging. Edited November 10, 2015 by TwiLyghtSansSparkles
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 And apparently the sister I've been standing up for has been trying to get me in trouble with the same mom who lectured me for standing up for her. LAST TIME I TRY TO BE HELPFUL, MUNCHKIN.

If you get in trouble for that, you atleast are doing what you believe Already got in trouble. Now, if I speak up again, the consequences will be even worse. And it doesn't look like my sister even cares, so I'm just done talking. Won't say a word against her or in her defense. I don't even feel safe talking to her about it, because there's a decent chance she'll tell my mom and spin it in such a way that it looks like I'm going behind my mom's back. I'm done. I'm done with this family.

Orlion Blight he/him Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 What do you mean? Oh, I'm just being silly and cynical (The two usually come together for me). I hope your familial conditions improve and that most of the recent conflicts are due to the stresses of selling a house, moving and job searching. In that case, things will get better even if they presently suck.

Before my parents even put it on the market, they went off on an hour-long lecture because I asserted myself instead of immediately rolling over and accepting the blame for something they knew I didn't do. (They do that a lot--if they feel like lecturing, they'll lecture everyone individually, even if they know you weren't the one to blame for it. They'll just change the lecture from "don't do this thing you did" to "make sure your siblings don't do this thing they did.") That it was the night before my birthday didn't matter. So yeah, this is less the stress getting to them and more business as usual. Edited November 10, 2015 by TwiLyghtSansSparkles

All you can do is hope that she holds together enough to be able to start deprogramming herself when she hits college, like you did. 1

I'm trying not to, it's just....I spoke up for her more than anyone else. I left the room if anyone made fun of her. I'd give her a chores list and trust her to do it instead of nagging, and look where that got me. I'm not going to change my approach with her; there's a right and a wrong way to do things, and I'm going to treat her right. But for the past few months, my mom has talked about how this girl "likes to stir up drama," and I'm really disappointed in her for proving my mom right.
Delightful Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 *hugs* I admire you for still trying to do the right thing in this impossible situation Twi. Just hang in there. We're here for you. You'll get out of there. It'll be ok. 1

Nighthound is not a...um....hound who can do your bidding. Call him, and he'll probably slaughter my family and enslave me as "payment for his services." Call Lightsong instead. Much better choice. 2
