SmurfAquamarineBodies he/him Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 "You haven't been talking about the Iowa thing much. You need to stop shutting us down every time we try to talk to you about it." "I'm not shutting you down. I just don't have a lot to say." "Well, make something up so we feel better." An actual conversation I just had with my parents. That was the same one where my dad offered assistance thusly: "What do you want to do: Do you want to get behind the wheel of an enormous truck you've never driven before and drive cross country, or do you want my help with it?" Such faith. Much understand. So parent. Wow. Errr. I don't understand. Why would you be driving the truck?
Orlion Blight he/him Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Because she wants to illegally smuggle barrels of pugs into Iowa. 5
Kaymyth she/her Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Errr. I don't understand. Why would you be driving the truck? It would be a moving truck, like a U-Haul. Though I think I successfully pointed her in the direction of a better option.
Delightful Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 The words "make something up so we feel better" actually came out of his mouth?
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 The words "make something up so we feel better" actually came out of his mouth? My mom's, actually. It's the introvert-extrovert thing again: they refuse to understand that over communicating about something is more likely to make me nervous than help, and since hearing every detail I have to share makes them feel better, I have to share every single detail.
Delightful Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 That's not communication issues, that's some sort of weird projection wish fulfilment. They are literally asking you to make up falsehoods and tell it to them as fact so that they can feel like they're what, intruding on your life more? Some warped sense of helping you? I don't even know. It's point blank ridiculous.

I don't even know. It's point blank ridiculous. I think what they're banking on is me feeling guilty for not telling them anything and just giving them the truth as a result. That, and knowing that they'll be even angrier if I really do lie to them. It's not them wanting me to lie so much as reverse psychology. What's point blank ridiculous is that I can explain their warped reasoning so well. 1
Stormgate he/him Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 You can explain that, but what is actually really crazy is that it is their reasoning at all. 1
Delightful Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 (edited) If "make up something so we feel better" is reverse psychology? Twi's mom, you're doing it wrong. Edited December 26, 2015 by Delightful 1
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 If "make up something so we feel better" is reverse psychology? Twi's mom, you're doing it wrong. And really, I wouldn't mind sharing more if they'd just be responsible with what I've already told them. But the whole reason I stopped sharing what was going on in my life is because they'd use what they learned against me. I'll just have to selectively share a few more details to get them off my case, that's all.
Delightful Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Sigh. I'm so sorry you have to go through this Twi. Your parents are so messed up. *hugs* 1
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Sigh. I'm so sorry you have to go through this Twi. Your parents are so messed up. *hugs* Honestly? I'm glad I know they're messed up. I spent years thinking they were amazing and I was just ungrateful, and it messed me up pretty bad. Heck, I still can't convince my siblings they're not the paragons of parental perfection they think they are. So even though the truth sucks, I'm glad I know it. Now, to convince them I'd rather pay the extra $600 to have my stuff delivered to Algona than save money and take a U-Haul there.... 1

You cannot put a price on not having to drive a rickety old U-Haul truck across Texas. Imagine it....cruising along a Texas interstate where the speed limit is 85...in a jankety old vehicle that gets 12mpg and can barely make it up to 60mph.

Kaymyth she/her Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Which would probably make Bruce nervous and make him want to sit on my lap. It'd be a good idea to get him a carseat for the journey. They make seats that you can belt in and then clip the dog's harness in so that they're secured. We have one for Leia.

What kind do you use? And I decided to upgrade my Mac, and it's been on the same install screen for almost an hour. I'm getting worried.

And I decided to upgrade my Mac, and it's been on the same install screen for almost an hour. I'm getting worried. I'm not sure that mine is even available anymore; I don't see it on Amazon. I've spotted a few that look good, though: http://www.amazon.com/DogCatcher-Safer-Harness-Tether-Houndstooth/dp/B00R5OECIK/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1451168725&sr=8-12&keywords=pet+carseat http://www.amazon.com/Good-Pet-Stuff-Travelin-Seat/dp/B000IH5MJE/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1451168329&sr=8-8&keywords=pet+carseat http://www.amazon.com/Bucket-Booster-Pet-Seat-Small/dp/B004ZJOK6C/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1451168329&sr=8-5&keywords=pet+carseat I'm not sure how big Bruce is, so you'd want to verify that they're the right size. Mostly, you want something that looks comfortable, fastens into the car's seatbelt, and has some way of restraining Bruce in the seat. The first one is actually a mesh kennel that's probably even safer for him than the belt-to-the-harness system.
Mestiv he/him Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 After about three months of fighting with the FIP virus, our beloved cat passed away He didn't want to eat for the past several days (we fed him with special liquid food with a syringe), he had trouble moving around and today he started to have trouble breathing We decided that the time has come to let him go, after his amazing fight with this disease... Farewell our little Germ (yeah, his name became some kind of cruel jinx ) I hope you had good time living with us ;( This year Christmas is THE WORST. Exactly on the Christmas Eve (24th) we've found out, that another one of our cats has FIP. Little Makruś is only 4 months old and he was having trouble breathing, so I took him to the doctor. Ultrasound confirmed that he has fluid around his lungs, the doctors managed to suck the fluid out, but it's only a matter of time when it'll be back. It's only a matter of time when we'll have to say goodbye to him too... I have seriously never had worse Christmas or week or month or whatever... 7

Mistrunner Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 Why is it so much harder to forgive yourself than to forgive other people? 3
Stormgate he/him Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 Because you can dismiss what other people do with "They have their reasons" but with you you know your reasons, and you know they aren't good, and you can't forgive yourself for thinking that at that time and believing yourself. 5
Orlion Blight he/him Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 Why is it so much harder to forgive yourself than to forgive other people? I don't know, but as I've gotten older, it's actually switched so now it's much easier to forgive myself than other people... Not sure why, I just find it harder to give people the benefit of the doubt nowadays.
