FeatherWriter she/her Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 My Little Pony is one of those shows that's good because you don't expect it to be. Though, the creator is Lauren Faust, who was one of the creative directors on Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. It's just one of those shows that could have been really shallow, cliche, and full of stereotypes easily, but is instead full of well-rounded, pretty deep, engaging characters, coupled with fantastic animation and fairly good storytelling. In other words, WATCH IT!
Silus - Shard of Flame he/him Posted June 18, 2011 Author Posted June 18, 2011 Just watched Toy Story 3 again. Just cried at the end of Toy Story 3...again.
Chaos he/him Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 I saw Transformers 3, and had loads of fun. Any stupidity of the script seemed rather inconsequential to the primary conflicts, so I had a blast. For this film, I'd say see it in 3D. You're seeing a Michael Bay movie, so you may as well get the best of the visuals. It really is the best 3D in a film since Avatar. There's also a Wrath of Khan reference, and it was great.
leinton Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 I'm currently watching Doctor Who. It's wonderful. The Doctah is wonderful. The British accents are wonderful. And the most wonderful thing of all... is the Daleks. WOULD YOU CARE FOR SOME TEA?! 1
Silus - Shard of Flame he/him Posted August 2, 2011 Author Posted August 2, 2011 DO YOU NOT REQUIRE TEA?
Zayde he/him Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 I've been rewatching Heroes. I'm four episodes into season 2. The second season was actually pretty strong, even though everyone likes to bash it. Volume 3 was when things kinda started to go downhill for the series.
Link Von Kelsier Harvey he/him Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Some months ago, I sat my sister down to watch Avatar: The Last Airbender. Every episode. Complications arose, but we were recently able to resume watching. Next on the list is Day of Black Sun, Part 1. Basically I need her to finish the series so I can show her the trailer of Korra. I AM FREAKING OUT OVER KORRA. 1
leinton Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Just watched the midseason finale of Doctor Who... wow.. 1
Chaos he/him Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 I saw Cowboys and Aliens yesterday. I enjoyed it, but probably not as much as I should have. Still, it was fun.
SOM1else he/him Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 started to watch "lie to me" a few days ago, I love that show
RathHood Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Finished watching Game of Thrones yesterday - think its easily best fantasy show ever and one of the best tv shows in general. I read 'Song of Ice and Fire' books some time ago and really didnt expect that they(HBO) can give books justice ...I was sooo wrong
Silus - Shard of Flame he/him Posted August 9, 2011 Author Posted August 9, 2011 I saw Cowboys and Aliens yesterday. It was good, but it could have been great really easily and wasn't, which bugs me. They really could have rocked that ending but it just dragged, wrapping up plot items earlier than they should have, things that could have really made a great ending.
KChan she/her Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 I really want to go see The Help. Also, did anyone here watch Expedition Impossible? That was a great show.
Silus - Shard of Flame he/him Posted August 28, 2011 Author Posted August 28, 2011 Let's Kill Hitler, the new episode of Doctor Who, premiered today. I DO NOT HAVE CABLE. So I have to wait until we can get it from iTunes, which will most likely be tomorrow. I'm going to go crazy waiting for it.
leinton Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 DOCTAH! DOCTAH! Ahhhhhh, Doctor Who was amazing last night. I promise any extra wait you have to suffer is worth it, Silius.
Silus - Shard of Flame he/him Posted August 28, 2011 Author Posted August 28, 2011 I watched it today and WOW. I am just blown away. I really do not know what to say about it.
Ryan he/him Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Nichijou (My Ordinary Life) is currently one of my favorite things. Very random, relentlessly funny, and consistently smart. I love it so much. Next comes Usagi Drop, a really sweet story about a 30-something guy who winds up taking care of his 6-year-old aunt after his grandfather's death. It's peaceful, touching, often funny, sometimes sad, and generally everything Anime usually isn't. As for other stuff, I'm still working my way through Battlestar Galactica, and I can't seem to stop rewatching selections from Dr. Who. Other than that, I'm mostly waiting for Chuck, Lie to Me, Human Target (assuming it didn't get canceled :\), and Top Gear to put out new material.
arturhawkwing he/him Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 (edited) [quote name='Endra kin'Fox' timestamp='1300562340' post=Actually just started watching Biggest d ...watching tons of Survivor on YouTube... I love survivor. Any idea when the next season starts? Also, i just watched Lets Kill Hitler. SPOILERSish Is it just me, or would it have made more sense (from a writing standpoint) for her not to have poisoned him, and just have had her do the stop-watch-turn-into-a-human thing? Aside from that, how did she become black? She mentioned regenerating, nut wouldn't that have meant that the Silence ha killed her until she came back as a toddler, so that she could be Amy's childhood friend? And why did she want to kill Hitler? Was she not psychotic when she was Mel? Edited August 31, 2011 by arturhawkwing
Silus - Shard of Flame he/him Posted August 31, 2011 Author Posted August 31, 2011 SPOILERS FOR LETS KILL HITLER I suppose that would solve the brainwashing problem, but kinda dumps the potential character development out the window. Regeneration can change everything about you, including gender or race, this just hasn't happened to the Doctor...yet. It can also make you younger, as we've seen since Matt Smith is 25 where William Hartnell was AT LEAST 50. But that's been a gradual thing, and I think that her regenerating at the end of Day of the Moon was probably what she was referring to. A seven-year-old or so to a toddler? The Doc's made bigger jumps back than that. I think it was just a whim kind of thing. Trying to make the Doctor think she was just hijacking his time machine like an ignorant human, rather than cleverly scheming as an assassin. 1
FrostedDonut he/him Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 UFO specials on the History Channel while I study and do some laundry. Guhhh.
PeterAhlstrom he/him Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 We're watching Bleach. We saw over half of the first season of the Bount arc, then skipped it to season 6 and read summaries. Now we're on episode 128 or something like that. It's good again.
KChan she/her Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 The Bount Arc is all filler anyways, so it arguably doesn't really have that much of an effect on the canon, if anything at all. That's actually when I stopped watching the Bleach anime and switched to the manga. Though, I haven't read the manga in forever either. >_>
PeterAhlstrom he/him Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Yes, that's why we felt justified skipping it. There were some entertaining bits toward the beginning, but it just got to a point where we didn't care about any of the characters.
KChan she/her Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Yeah, I definitely agree. That's generally the problem with having fillers. It's hard to have interesting, engaging characters (especially interacting with the main cast), when ultimately they're not allowed to have any bearing on the main canon by virtue of what they are. Maybe anime series should learn to do interludes instead! I have to admit, though, the Naruto anime had a couple of decent filler arcs. The Hinata one was good, even if it was about bees.
Ryan he/him Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 I view fillers like I view season breaks in normal TV, because, let's be honest, that's what they would be doing if they couldn't make more money by running fillers. It would be really great if manga artists planned for the adaptation to anime by writing their own "filler" arcs that are part of the canon. These would be textual interludes placed between major arcs that manga readers could read and Anime makers could burn time animating. The Erfworld webcomic does this to great effect (they don't have animation in mind, but rather just want to tell more story than they can through the regular pages because the art takes so long). I know it's a pipe dream because manga artists are already overworked and underpaid. But if it could be made to work, it would be a much better solution than anything they're doing now.
