Finished The Rose Society today and started on book 3 of the Codex Alera, Cursor's Fury! Haven't gotten very far yet, but I'm very much looking forward to the experience. :D

I finished The Last Argument of Kings, the third book in the First Law trilogy. I thought the trilogy was good, but not amazing.

I'm now reading The Kite Runner and am enjoying it, I'll soon start Best Served Cold which is some kind of sequel to First Law.

I'm taking a break in the middle of the first Otherland book to read The Promise by Chaim Potok. It's the sequel to The Chosen, which I read about a month ago and absolutely loved. I'm not sure what I think of this book so far.

I finished the published Temeraire books, so now I have to wait... a month and a half for the next one.  Having recently listened to the entire War and Peace somehow helped me enjoy the books more (especially the last one). All in all, good timing. Also Tor is doing a re-read of the series if anyone is interested.

The Raven King, the final book of the Raven Boys cycle, came out on Tuesday, and it was quite lovely in a heartwarming nightmare sort of way.

Finished Rebel of the Sands tonight and very much enjoyed it. GoodReads says it's the first in a series, so w00t!

This weekend I will be starting The Price of Creation by Lance Conrad, an author I met at Fan-X who convinced me to spend $40 of the cash I brought to the con (out of $80) to buy three out of the four books he was selling.

Still working on Codex Alera #3.

Also, I discovered from reading an article on Tor.com that the graphic novel Kill Shakespeare exists. Does anyone have any opinions to share about it?

I'm enjoying the hell out of Webers Safehold 1. It's so predictable plot/dialogue wise that it reminds me of old school fantasy like Dragonlance but it has been so fun to read so far!

For all that, she lacked your fire.

Finished The Wise Mans Fear. I dont hate myself yet, but I am sure the urge to return to Temerant will soon hit me. I love these books too much...

Next is probably The Blinding Knife.

Just finished Codex Alera #3, Cursor's Fury, and my theory was right!!

So I finished Codex Alera #2 yesterday, and now I have a theory about Tavi...

Based on the mysterious conversation at the end of the book between Gaius and...Miles, I think, and after looking at the titles of the rest of the books in the series, I suspect that at some point it will be revealed that Tavi is Gaius's heir. Not sure how, but clearly there is a secret about him waiting to be discovered. Plus this book was titled Academ's Fury, in which Tavi was an academ. Book 3 is Cursor's Fury, in which he will presumably have completed his training and become a full Cursor. Based on this pattern, it seems reasonable to think that the rest of the titles are also referring to Tavi.

Now if you've read the whole series and know how it ends, don't spoil it for me by confirming or refuting my theory! I just had to share it with somebody who would know what I was talking about.

I am pleased with this development.

Moving straight onto Codex Alera #4!

Hee.  I figure it out really early on in the series.

I mean, look at the naming conventions.  Sextus, Septimus...Tavi was clearly short for Octavius.

I must just be really thick, because it only occurred to me as I was reading book 3 that the dead prince's name was Septimus. It must've been mentioned in the previous two books, though, right?? I'm just totally oblivious.

Kinda reminds me of the 7 brothers in the movie Stardust: Primus, Secundus, Tertius, Quartus, Quintus, Sextus, Septimus. And their only sister is named Una. XD But brothers 4-6 are all dead by the start of the movie.

Finished up my Magicians re-read. Lost a little of the original luster second time around.

This thread inspired me to finish up where I left off with the Temeraire series. I started Tounges of Serpents.

I thought it was pretty obvious from the start as well. It kind of lessen the plot line, imho.

Septimus is mentioned in bk 1 yes when Tavi and Amara seek shelter in his tomb during a storm. He's mentioned in all 6. Captains Fury bk 4 is really fun.

I know he was mentioned in the earlier books; I'm just having a hard time recalling whether it was by name. I am having a great time reading Captain's Fury. My Kindle's progress bar says I'm 73% done. (I just got to chapter 43.) I've highlighted some funny quotes:

Isana: "If you got much taller, they'd have to raise all the ceilings in here." Tavi shook his head gravely. "Nonsense. This is the Legion. The ceiling is at regulation height. It is the responsibility of every legionare to be sure that he is regulation height as well."

"The man who none of us saw and who none of us are going to remember is here to see you, sir."

"If I wanted him assassinated, I'd do it myself." Tavi paused to consider. "Or possibly send Max and Crassus." "For you," Ehren said, "that was an uncommonly sensible afterthought."

"I would hit you on the head with a rock and drag you away from this. But it would only shatter the rock."

"I always enjoy working with Cursors," Demos replied. "They pay on time, and almost never try to kill me afterward."

I finished The Promise, the sequel to The Chosen by Chaim Potok. Dang :(:D one of my new favorite authors.
I didn't connect as personally with this book as The Chosen, but I think that it was also the better book. Which is weird, I don't normally like one thing more than another but say the other is better

So I've also re-listened to Bands of Mourning, and am halfway through re-listens of The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto and WoR. I'm going to be getting back to Otherland now after my break for Potok.

Kafka on the Shore was excellent, really excellent. No idea what to go to next though I'm on nights and courses etc soon so no idea when starting a new book will be a good idea...

Finishing House of Chains by Erikson. Really need to stop taking breaks when I'm in the middle of these books. Such a great series but my brain hurts constantly with how complex it is.

finished the series earlier this year and took something like 4 month break from reading altogether after it (other than bands of mourning, anyway)

Just finished Imager. I enjoyed the world and the magic quite a bit, and I'm always a fan of teachers and students, but there wasn't a lot of tension in the way it was written. I also read The ABC Murders in the space of twenty-four hours. Agatha Christie is really good at what she does. Moving on to A Cat Among the Pidgeons.

I love the Imager series! There's slightly more tension in later books, but yes, mostly they aren't very tense.

....Eww, You should skip A Cat Among the Pigeons. It's one of her most boring. I like Mrs. Mguinties Dead, and Death on the Links.

Just finished Furies of Calderon. Heading on to Academ's Fury.

I approve! (But I'm out of upvotes for today.) I finished Captain's Fury and read like all of Princeps' Fury in one day--finished it while I was on an airplane out to Ohio to visit my parents for two weeks. Now I'm anxiously waiting for First Lord's Fury to become available at the library, but in the meantime I started reading Blood of Tyrants, the next book in Naomi Novik's Temeraire series. I haven't gotten very far because I've been spending all day birdwatching for the past four days.

I finished Toungues of Serpents and Crucible of Gold. Reading Blood of Tyrants now. I have to say I see why it was recommended to me to stop at Victory of Eagles which I did previously. It just seems like one of those series that goes on a little too long. Mange this book will change my mind.
