Orlion Blight he/him Posted June 9, 2021 Posted June 9, 2021 All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy. Because I haven't started enough trilogies yet
Thaidakar the Ghostblood he/him Posted June 9, 2021 Posted June 9, 2021 the chosen ah yeah. my screen
CrypticSpren he/him Posted June 9, 2021 Posted June 9, 2021 Orlionra I pray for your sanity. I haven't read All the Pretty Horses but Blood Meridian has traumatized me greatly.
Spren of Kindness she/her Posted June 9, 2021 Posted June 9, 2021 Have finished Uglies and also read Rush by Eve Silver. I absolutely did not make a point of reading those today so I can take The Shadow Rising to school tomorrow because it's massive, absolutely not. 1
Thaidakar the Ghostblood he/him Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 I recently started a skyward reread. 1
Spren of Kindness she/her Posted June 15, 2021 Posted June 15, 2021 Still working on The Shadow Rising (I did in fact show it off at school and I'll do it again). I wanted to have finished by now, but life happened. (spoilers below) Spoiler I like Perrin's POV, but I do not like Faile. At all. Her character grates on me for some reason. It might be the romance, I despised Selene before the Lanfear reveal, and there's a bit of romance involved in that. But at the same time, the whole mess that is the various Rand romances doesn't annoy me terribly. It's weird, and somehow I'm avoiding everything about the series online very well, which means that until I finish, likely sometime next year, I'll probably feel mildly bad about this because it feels like the sort of thing that is a Bad Opinion. I do like seeing Rand's power growing, and the madness (?) as well. I think the scene in Tear where he puts Callandor back in the stone is my favorite. The Aiel stuff has also been very interesting.

I should really write some of these thoughts down to discuss, but I have so few that it's easy enough to just put them in a spoiler box here.
Stranger Posted June 15, 2021 Posted June 15, 2021 Finished The Steel Remains and The Dragon's Path a few days ago.
Spren of Kindness she/her Posted June 16, 2021 Posted June 16, 2021 Well, finished The Shadow Rising. Overall, pretty good. I'm excited to read the next one in a couple weeks. I'm going to read Push by Eve Silver and Pretties by Scott Westerfeld.
Stranger Posted June 19, 2021 Posted June 19, 2021 Finished Bleak Seasons, Under Heaven (preferred this more than The Lions of Al-Rassan), and The Last Wish. I'm trying to give myself the power to finish Lightbringer, but I just can't .
Spren of Kindness she/her Posted June 19, 2021 Posted June 19, 2021 Finished Push and Pretties, so right now I'm rereading Where the Mountain Meets the Moon, and I'll reread The Goose Girl and The Eye of the World next week.

Bejarden he/him Posted June 20, 2021 Posted June 20, 2021 Reread of the Hobbit (which in my opinion is slightly better than LoTR)
urrutiap Posted June 22, 2021 Posted June 22, 2021 Currently re-reading Star Wars Hand of Thrawn: Vision of the Future Been a long long time since i read it like 16 years ago
Iarwainiel I she/her Posted June 22, 2021 Posted June 22, 2021 Just finished re-reading Heart of Barkness and Of Mutts and Men in preparation for the July 9th release of Tender Is the Bite, book 11 in the Chet & Bernie mystery series. I pre-ordered the new one, since they send you a free e-short story on publication day if you pre-order. Can't wait! 1
urrutiap Posted June 25, 2021 Posted June 25, 2021 just started reading Fall of Hyperion. But at the same time re-reading a few things in the first Hyperion book such as the characters story origins such as The Priest's Tale

I’m not sure if I’ve ever read anything as haunting as The Scholar’s Tale. The Priest’s Tale is a close second.
urrutiap Posted June 26, 2021 Posted June 26, 2021 Eh. The Priest's Tale is the only good flashback type story. I skipped the other ones
Draginon he/him Posted June 27, 2021 Posted June 27, 2021 In the middle of ROW, part 3 specifically, but had hit a bout of depression while reading through some of the Kaladin stuff and the second set of interludes so reading that stuff wasn’t exactly what I needed, especially the Vyre interlude since I just can’t get into that mindset at all. 2
Spren of Kindness she/her Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 Finished The Eye of the World, and am now reading Fires of Heaven. So far, it's pretty good. Question: could someone tell me the ages of some of the main characters, specifically the Emond's Fielders? I'd go on the wiki, but I don't want to spoil myself.

Spren of Kindness she/her Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 @Orlionra, thank you! I finished The Fires of Heaven. It turns out that nursing a bad case of allergies from lawn mowing gives one plenty of time to read. A few spoilers I wanted to comment on: Spoiler Logain has become one of my favorite characters in this book, despite him not doing much. I'm hoping there'll be more of him in future books. At the same time, I'm also liking Mat a bit more in this book, especially seeing the ancient tactics man come out. (As another note, Logain's line 'she sold me to Aes Sedai' was the first major emotion that WOT caused. I felt really bad for the guy. Also, I'm throwing in on Rand x Elayne, solely because of the one mention that she apparently has hair similar to Lews Therin's wife Ilyena, not because I agree with that particular pairing. (Why do we need a love square?) Gotta admit, when I started thinking it was a bit strange that there hadn't been much major character death, I was not expecting... that. My exact words upon the balefiring of Rahvin? 'Well fiddlesticks. Now you've done it. You've gone and broke the space-time continuum, you idiot.' Should I go to the WOT board for future books? The further I go in the series, the more commentary I have, and I don't want to put this stuff in the wrong place. I got a lot of books from the library, so I'll probably read Crash and Specials, just to finish off those two series, or maybe Ben-Hur.
