I did need Kleenex. That was really wicked... Do NOT click this Spoiler if you haven't read the book. It's a complete ending wrecker. Spoiler I couldn't believe it when they left Coltaine to die... And then Duiker as well.. Just wow. The "Jhistal" reference got me right away. I was the same as that soldier, "Jhistal... Why is that familiar? I've got a bad feeling about this... Oh... Oh no." I'd like to make comments about how I can't believe it took me this long to get around to Malazan... But, I don't think I would have been ready for it before now. It's almost like all the heavy fantasy reading I've put in over the last year has helped make me a better vessel for holding in all the pieces of this story. Holy chull... Memories of Ice is bigger than the complete LOTR. It's funny how perspective can change so quickly. I used to think LOTR was HUGE. Edited May 19, 2017 by AngelEy3

More so depending on your age and if you remember the 80s and 90s. I re-listen to it about every 6 months or so it is that fun. Unfortunately for me at least his second book Armada was a total flop.

It was a "popcorn" read so dont take it too seriously; tons of fun though. When I read it a while back, I thought it was mediocre. I enjoyed it well enough, but I have 0 desire to go back and read it again.

It is pretty heavy handed with "nostalgia porn" which may not resonate with everyone especially if you did not live through the 80's and early 90's.

The book is fun, the references are cool, Steven Spielberg is working on adapting it to a movie, and it's a pretty quick read. It's not literature, and after reading Armada I realized that Cline isn't actually a very good writer, but Ready Player One is pretty fun. I think that it's worth your time to at least try it, and maybe you'll like it and maybe you won't. I reckon you're more likely to enjoy it than not.

Man I don't think I have ever anticipated a book as much as Armada and been so let down after reading it.

I like it so far I had a hard time with the first four chapters because I found them technical and had a hard time sinking into the story, but I am pretty into it now. I like both main protagonists: Kip and Gavin are very different and interesting in their own way.
StrikerEZ he/him Posted May 20, 2017 Posted May 20, 2017 I'm almost 300 pages into The Way of Kings, and it's reached that point where Brandon's hooked me in now. Don't answer my questions, because I don't want spoilers, but I'm still gonna ask. So, the King's Wit is Hoid, right? Sadly, I also know that the letter writer is also Hoid, though I tried to avoid as many spoilers as possible (the things at the start of each chapter in part 2 are from that letter, right?). Also, how did Kaladin drain the Stormlight from the sphere that Gaz gave him? Gaz said it was fully charged when he gave it to Kaladin, and it usually takes a week for the charge to die, I think. I figure he's a Surgebinder, or one of those other magic users. Probably has something to do with Syl, I bet (is that what the nahel bond I've heard mentioned is about?). Also, what are Shallan's Memories? They're capitalized, so they must be important. Those are my only thoughts right now. I'm really liking this book. Off to read I go! 1

Bk 1 is probably the hardest while you learn about the 7 Saps and the very complicated color magic but bk 1 will payoff come conclusion time I promise. This series is caramel covered popcorn. I look foward to your reactions of the story.

I'm on page 223 of the trade Paperback. Really really enjoying it so far. Spoiler I'm at the part where the T'Lan Imass saved the horse soldiers outside Capustan from the K'ell hunters. They just spoke with the grey sword leaders, and the next page break looks to be the early morning planned communication with Quick Ben. (Quick Ben who is awesomely and mysteriously powerful for presumably not being an ascendant.) Favorite scene so far had to be the line drawing between Brood and Rake over Silverfox. Whiskey Jack being completely bad chull and hitting Kallor, and then riding in and standing in front of Brood with his sword in the sand was awesome. There's just so much intrigue... What do the Azath want? Why is K'rull back? Is Brood gonna swing his hammer? Did the crows manage to save Coltaine's soul? Are the raging blood fountains Sha'ik (Felisin) and Tavore? What's tool really up to? Will Mappo betray his friend? Find out on the next exciting episode of Dragon Ball Z! Very impressed so far. I've done quite a bit of back turning the pages and saying, "wait what just happened?" or "that was awesome, I need to see it again!"
Briar King Posted May 20, 2017 Posted May 20, 2017 (edited) In your last paragraph of tagged one of those is def foretold but how it turns out could be nothing or completely accurate. In any case I'm not telling you! ive just gotten only to pg 102. Edited May 20, 2017 by Briar King

Ammanas Posted May 20, 2017 Posted May 20, 2017 @AngelEy3 In regards to your questions I will not spoil you by answering them, but I can tell you when some of them will be revealed. The question about crowd and coltain's soul is in Return of the Crimson Guard by Esslemont. The question about the raging fountains of blood is in House of Chains. Does mappo betry his friend. I'm not positive, but I think that one is in The Bonehunters.
Datan Nomlibash Posted May 21, 2017 Posted May 21, 2017 Writers of the future 33rd edition Its a collection of short stories that won a contest of the same name. I picked it up cuz the cover is one of the best looking ones I've seen in a while. The stories inside come from a range of genres but are all really good. Only cost like 15$ so I'm pretty happy with the purchase and recommend it to people who just want some good reading.
Left he/him Posted May 21, 2017 Posted May 21, 2017 On the drive down to Florida for a much needed vacation I listened to the autobiography of Geronimo, as well as a HP lovecraft story. The autobiography was awesome, but the Lovecraft was...exceedingly meh. It was just a short story though, so perhaps a longer one would be better.

I have read several of them...he reminds me a little of Sir Walter Scott; they have great ideas , but use way too many words to get them across. Call of Cthulhu is lovecrafts most popular story if you want a stronger one.
