In my opinion a book can be compared to Sanderson and Rothfuss if it has a inventive magic system (Sanderson) and is a coming of age story about a boy learning magic, written at a leisurely/meandering/slow pace and involves stories in the story that forshadows events (rothfuss)

I guess I'm saying its possible to see elements of other authors in a new book. Comparing authors means different things to different people: it could include all the examples I gave, one example, or something entirely different.
Patar he/him Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Just picked up a collection of Lovecraftian Tales.

I think it's the same thing as once it was being compared to Harry Potter. Both Rothfuss and Sanderson are good and popular so they get compared to regardless of the validity of such comparision.
Assassin in Burgundy he/him Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Reread WoK for the 26th time. I'm not sure that's a good thing 1
Left he/him Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 I finished a biography about Putin, it was good and focused on his reign which is what I'm most interested in anyway. So I'm actually going to take a break before reading another history or biography and am gonna try and get through LE Modesitt's new Imager book real quick. I started it last night, and it looks like more of the same really, without the more compelling protagonist from the first trilogy and the continental scale of the prequel series. I've also been reading a bunch of Neww 52 batman comic collections, and some have been very good. They're much better imo than the Flash ones I read anyway. Sometime soon I'm planning on reading Chapterhouse Dune, but I'm not sure when.
StormingTexan he/him Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Finished Death's End the final book in the Three Body Problem (Remembrance of Earths Past) trilogy by Liu Cixin. Wow my head is still spinning. Now I am starting a book that has been in my to read list for a while. Purely because of Brandon's recommendation of this author I am starting Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay.

If you want fantasy go with the Imager Portfolio or maybe the Corean chronicles. He's got some decent hard science fiction too. 1

ScarletSabre he/him Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Been tempted to reread the Superior Spider-Man series, because it's SO much better than that idea had any right to be, and if anyone out there has never read it and wants to, make sure you read Amazing Spider-Man #698, #699 and #700 first! I HIGHLY recommend it if you're a Spidey fan! On the Audiobook side of things I've been listening to Mogworld and Jam by Yahtzee Croshaw, and after listening to them twice each, I'm now onto The Waking Fire, by Anthony Ryan, a very fun book filled with corporate intrigue, magic, and dragons.
Kruppe he/him Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Brandon Sanderson Patrick Rothfuss Brent Weeks Peter Brett Raymond E. Feist George R. Martin Robert Jordan Robin Hobb Steven Erikson As you can see i'm on a very strict diet. I think that's the main ones. : ) 1
Zathoth Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Everything. I seem to be unable to stick to just one book at the moment. Weaveworld Childhoods End Elric From Melniboné and other stories Sandman Doom Patrol because I need to know how insane it gets.
Briar King Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Finished Safehold 4 early this am and started 5 right away. Love this series.

It managed to make me cry several times as well as laugh. Very good book.

I really like it so far though, the characters feels very relatable.
Sunbird she/her Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Started reading The Diabolic by SJ Kincaid today, even though I still haven't finished J Scott Savage's Gears of Revolution that I started a few weeks ago. I feel like I'm in an "I don't feel like reading paper books, only ebooks" slump right now.
AngelEy3 he/him Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 (edited) Read The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman last night. It was really interesting. I'm currently on chapter 6 of Elantris and enjoying it so far. Pretty hyped to be getting AU in the mail today. I'm going to head straight for Secret History and the rest of the Mistborn stories! MAJOR EDIT: Trolled myself HARD just now today.... I had it in my head that AU released today (11/18) and it turns out that it's actually not until Tuesday...(11/22) What a major let down this morning. I guess it does give me time to finish Elantris though, so silver linings I guess? Edited November 18, 2016 by AngelEy3 Disappointment Spren 1

Meant to post something earlier but got busy. So if it makes you feel better you trolled me too. 1

I had bought the digital version a couple weeks ago and must have switched the dates in my head. I had been way more excited for AU and pretty much forgot about Pokémon until I stopped by IGN a few hours ago.
Left he/him Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Finished Modesitt's new book, Imager Portfolio number ten, book two of a bridging trilogy. This trilogy has been weaker than both the original trilogy and the prequel series, but I think this book was stronger than the first. Re-listening to Hogfather by Terry Pratchett since it's around the right time of year. I have four books that I really need to get around to, a history book, biography of Frank Herbert, Chapterhouse Dune, and Armour by John Steakly. I might end up getting sidetracked( again) and read a book by Mitchner or try out a short collection of Edgar Allen Poe.
Titan Arum Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Currently reading Memories of Ice, with only 7% to go. I think Deadhouse Gates was much better. This story seems to be a repeat of the previous two books: march to battle, fight, march to next battle, fight. Some character development, but wait! Some people get much more powerful and die. But do they? Hmmm... Anyway, next in my queue is a self-published book called Senlin Ascends by Josiah Bancroft. Author Mark Lawrence has called it the best book he's read in 2016 because of the beautiful prose, gripping and unique story, and amazing character development. The good news is that the second book of the trilogy is out already (and got just as glowing reviews). I'll let everyone know what I think about it after I finish it.
