Hood he/him Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 It's generally a book people like in varying degrees. I don't know if I've talked to anyone who is actually unhappy about it. I finished Django Wexler's The Price of Valor and was very happy with it. If only I could stop thinking about it as The Prince of Valor... Now I am working on Queen of Fire by Anthony Ryan. I don't expect to like it very much (the middle book, Tower Lord, was a step back from the already mediocre Blood Song), but it's the last one in the series and I can't bring myself to leave it unread. I too read "The Price of Valor" as "The Prince of Valor". Regarding, Blood Song, I agree it is not upto the level of Rothfuss, which I think the author tries (my opinion only). But now, having read one book, I don't want to leave the series at that.
Pestis the Spider she/her Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 and am not sure what I think of Asimov's second Robot's book, The Naked Sun. Read it. Read the whole Robot's series. It's so worth it. I love this series.
Left he/him Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 Well alright then, I guess I'll be getting back to The Naked Sun. I also finished Thief of Time, and boy did it remind me of why I love Pratchett. Definitely one of his better books. Still haven't finished Flash.... Going to give Towers of Sunset, second book in the saga of Recluse, another go. It's one of modesitts books that are incredibly hard to get sucked into for a long time, but I hope that I can chug through it so I can get to the more interesting books in the series.
Argent he/him Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 Regarding, Blood Song, I agree it is not upto the level of Rothfuss, which I think the author tries (my opinion only). But now, having read one book, I don't want to leave the series at that. I wish I felt like this. I am about 40% into the third one and it's a slow read. Yes, it's a big book, but I just can't get invested in the characters, which usually means that I read it as a chore.
vietnamabc Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Worm by wildbow, this the richest reading experience I have had.
Dunkum he/him Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 finally finished going through World of Ice and Fire, and have moved on to a coupel books by Guy Gavriel Kay. finished The Last Light of the Sun and am currently going through The Lions of Al-Rassan. highly recommend both, as well as Tigana by him.
Darkness Ascendant he/him Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Right now I am reading the Talbot Odyssey bye Nelson Demile
Left he/him Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Finished Towers of Sunset, second book in the Saga of Recluse. Storms, I get now why people think Modesitts writing is bad. If you start with Recluse is pretty storming awful. His later books definitely are far above that *shudder* Not that Modesitt ever becomes a Rothfuss, or even a Sanderson.
Seize she/her Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 The Aeneid, by Virgil, 'cause that's classy and I was curious.
Left he/him Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 The Aeneid, by Virgil, 'cause that's classy and I was curious. The Illiad and Odyssey were much bett'r books in my opinion. Two cents
Hood he/him Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Sophie's World. If only, I could get the movie.
Jit he/him Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Just finished Ready Player One and enjoyed it, although it wasn't the 5/5 book as my friends were telling me. Anyway I'm starting Armada, both written by Ernest Cline.
Amanuensis he/him Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 (edited) I am currently alternating between The Alloy of Law (first time) and The Providence of Fire by Brian Staveley (Chronicle of the Unhewn Throne, Book Two). Edited August 24, 2015 by Alvom Halbin
Argent he/him Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Still struggling with Anthony Ryan's Queen of Fire...
Blue Skies Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Just finished The wise man's fear by Patrick Rothfuss. Re-read the section with Felurian about 30 times. Its.....pretty great. Just picked up Elantris as well and waiting for Shadows of self. 1
sanderfuss he/him Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I think you must be the first on here to think that the Felurian section of 'a wise mans fear' is "pretty great". I myself enjoyed it bur not many did. I actually thought there were many significants parts with in it. But that's really a discussion for another forum.
sanderfuss he/him Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Currently in the middle of the republic of thieves. I must say I'm finding it just as entertaining as the first two gentleman bastards instalments.
Who Sharded? Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Re-read the section with Felurian about 30 times. Its.....pretty great. Oh wow. One read of that section was more than enough for me.

Briar King Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 Finally after a good 9 months I have finished the massive Masters of Rome 7 bk series. It was SOOOOO great! I'm onto Apt 9 War Masters Gate now.
sanderfuss he/him Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Just finished the republic of thieves. I enjoyed the it as much to say I just enjoy the feel of the world and characters created by Scott Lynch, the humour he uses is very much to my taste. The way it ended though for me was a bit... meh. But if there is to be 7 books in the series then I guess there's plenty room for more Locke!
Argent he/him Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Finally done with Queen of Fire. Really happy this is the last book, I am not sure I could've forced myself through another one. I think it's time to go back to Pratchett for some time.
Left he/him Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Currently working on a reread of Kekkaishi vol 10-33 and I'm going to figure out some way to read the last few volumes so that I can finally get some closure and such for possibly my favorite manga yet. In Pratchett news, I'm about half way through Equal Rites and am going to have to figure out whether to read Reaper Man or Witches Abroad next. I'm thinking Reaper Man because I've been waiting to read that one for a LONG time. Also re-listening to The Phantom of the Opera. Love the musical, love the book, should really try some of Lerounx's (spelling...) other works.
StormingTexan he/him Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 (edited) I am on the third book of The Cycle of Arawn and glad I am nearing the end. I just want to finish it at this point. It is not a bad story I just cant seem to get in to the characters at all. Thinking of starting WoT. Oh and I read The Carpet Makers which I thought was awesome and haunting.
