Whoa, what the crap? That HTML was weird, but I edited it out now.

Thanks for testing that, Kurk. Clearly there is a problem somewhere. I'm going to need to send a support ticket for that (which is a thing we can do now because our software is up to date) I think. Any Android users want to try that a bit?

I've also removed the warning points thing; that was just unnecessarily ominous.

Now to fix those tabs in the member view.

Just to let you know, the full version button seems yo work done on Windows Phone 8 in IE

Thanks! :D Speaking of WP8, I set the user agent of the mobile skin so WP8 will send you to the mobile version by default. That wasn't set before.

Additionally, I have made a slight CSS change to the topic view--now, at the top of the post, there is a blue bar where it says your name. I think it makes it less "wall of text white", and maybe does the same thing that the old bar did for you, Kurk, in the old topic view. You may need to delete your cache to see the difference, but I did not.

Wow, trying to type on a phone at 1am on a ridiculous all-night shift is amusing. Needless to say, i did bot attempt to write "yo work done". And yet, strangely, the sentence does parse ok...

I didn't actually realise there was a mobile site prior to the upgrade. I must say i prefer it for speed and clarity when browsing on my phone, though the real site is much more aesthetically pleasing

Hah I did not even noticed you did that.

Yeah, the mobile site is... basic. We never really skinned 3.1's mobile site, and we haven't worked on the current mobile site, but we will. At least this one is going to be a good base to work with.

I noticed that some of the icons on the left of topics are missing.

In the forum view, you mean? That's not really a bug, though a difference from the old forums. Here, they have removed several icons. Now icons will only be present if you've posted in a thread or they are unread (or if they are closed). But there is no icon for a read post.

There's an anomaly with links, I have noticed. For example, my sig's links are darker for some mysterious reason, while everyone else's are this brighter blue. I will work now to change all links to be this less harsh, dark blue. So Kurk, you'll probably want to remove those color codes in a bit ;)

EDIT: I have changed the link colors, much better.

Satsu reported to me that he wasn't receiving emails form posts when he did previously. Has anyone else had this issue?

Edit. For me, the site in general is all good, though i shall have to get used to the new quotes.

He may need to edit his notification settings, maybe? Not sure.

Did something change?

Just kidding, I'm sure it's much better.  Sometimes when I do the view unread replies thing, I get the following, which leaves me feeling nonplussed:

Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'Exception' with message 'topics is not an object' in /home/prige/public_html/forum/admin/sources/base/ipsRegistry.php:1112 Stack trace: #0 /home/prige/public_html/forum/admin/sources/base/ipsRegistry.php(1210): ipsRegistry::getClass('topics') #1 /home/prige/public_html/forum/admin/applications/forums/modules_public/forums/forums.php(1280): ipsRegistry->__get('topics') #2 /home/prige/public_html/forum/admin/applications/forums/modules_public/forums/forums.php(1346): public_forums_forums_forums->parseTopicData(Array) #3 /home/prige/public_html/forum/admin/applications/forums/modules_public/unreadReplies/view.php(131): public_forums_forums_forums->renderEntry(Array) #4 /home/prige/public_html/forum/admin/sources/base/ipsController.php(306): public_forums_unreadReplies_view->doExecute(Object(ipsRegistry)) #5 /home/prige/public_html/forum/admin/sources/base/ipsController.php(120): ipsCommand->execute(Object(ipsRegistry)) #6 /home/prige/public_html/forum/admin/sources/base/ipsController.php(65): in /home/prige/public_html/forum/admin/sources/base/ipsRegistry.php on line 1112

It could be an internet problem at my end, but sometimes it works fine.

Hope this helps

On the View New Content thing? Very strange. We haven't seen that (and I'm trying to toggle stuff through View New Content and not getting the error). Has anyone else had this error?

EDIT: I would note that the old "View Unread Replies" that was in the old user dropdown menu is not a thing that exists. So if that was what you were trying to access, that's why. But if it was View New Content, that's kind of problematic.

OK, OK, I didn't know that "View Unread Replies" was no longer a thing.  I have no idea how to do the "View New Content" thing, so I won't be finding any problems with that.  Still, you might want to catch the exception, but maybe that's just me.

The view new content button took me a second to find. If you look to the immediate left of the search bar, you'll see a button with some horizontal bars. Hover over that and a drop down menu will appear with "View new content" as it's first option.

Gotcha, that makes sense :) The link to View Unread Replies should not exist anymore, so just remove your bookmarks to it. Not sure if I can remove the error message, as it isn't supposed to be accessed anymore anyway.

That mod was great, but clearly unsupported in this version, and it hasn't been updated in a long time :/ Sorry about that. It was never a core feature, so there's a lot of hooks that can extend the functionality of things. The author of said hook clearly hasn't wanted to update it.

EDIT: Maybe I should discuss the dropdown menu there, which Windy pointed out, and why I constructed that. I was never satisfied with the old layout, where we had a bunch of links like "Members" "Statuses" "View New Content" and such just sort of floating near the top, yet not in the main navbar. So I wanted that navbar to contain those elements that are useful, but aren't really primary navigation like that. That dropdown will contain more minor items later, like links to our Facebook and Twitter.

Thanks for the information.  I want to be clear in my appreciation for your labors of love.  I love the site and am tremendously grateful for your efforts!

The "View Unread Replies" feature may not have been updated for a long time, but it worked fine yesterday, so I am not sure why the lack of maintenance is relevant  .  I'll take your word for the clarity of the lack of desire to update, as I have no visibility on that.

I do find it useful myself.  Has this feature been spiked as a policy decision? Is there some way for me to attempt to update it and submit it to an administrator for testing?

I haven't worked on apache for a long time, but I do have quite a bit of programming experience.  I've hung around here for a while and I bear the site nothing but goodwill.

PS: Multiquote! Way cool!

No no no. Sorry, maybe I was being unclear. We did not axe it. You see, our software is built on Invision Power Board, and we simply had to upgrade due to a couple of errors (like the emoticon bug) and the amount of spambots that were registering. So we had to get more up-to-date software, which we don't code ourselves. On top of that new version of IPB, modders code additional modifications to the board which can extend the functionality. The View Unread Replies was such a mod, but whoever wrote it just never updated it past IPB 3.1 (we are at 3.4 now). So it has absolutely nothing to do with policy and solely due to the fact that we can't run that mod anymore. I would like to have functionality like that, and if or when some sort of mod appears like that, I will so install that :) I'm really sorry we can't run it anymore, but the site overhaul to fix more pressing bugs (and also to make the site look somewhat good) was more important. In fact, the site updates have been much delayed, so I'm glad it finally happened.

Thing is, yesterday, we were on the old version of IPB, and overnight everything changed (as you can no doubt tell from the radically different design and layout).

Hey, if you can learn to build IPB hooks, I will so install any hooks you code. But it's kind of beyond my ability. The documentation for coders isn't really the best, though is getting better.

Again, really sorry that functionality doesn't exist for you anymore. In the meantime, you may want to use the Follow feature. Scroll up to the top of the topic and you can click Follow on the top right, and it will notify you when there are replies to topics you care about. That might be the best stopgap for you.

I'd like to have symbols next to topics with new replies that you haven't posted in.

If I'm following a long discussion, it's nice to have all the 'go to first unread replies' links in a row at the left.

On the board index, or the forum view? Because the forum view has that. That's the iron icon--new posts in things you haven't posted in. Tin corresponds to things you have posted in. When the tin icon is lit up, there are new posts in the topic you have posted in.

Additionally, Josh is telling me that now on the mobile view, the "Use Full Version" button now works on his Chrome and Safari on iOS. He updated his iOS version today, so that may have fixed it, but let me know if anyone has that issue (also Kurk, let me know if you're on the latest iOS).

Thanks again for the patient response.  Yes, the "View Unread Replies"  hasn't been updated for over two years, even though that contributor has submitted other mods this year.

Unfortunately, even though it is a "free download", It won't let me look at it without a valid customer login.  The API documentation is accessible.

Would the licensing permit you to download it and let me look at it?  I could sign a non-disclosure agreement.

No need for an NDA :) I'm happy to send you the file and help how I can. I'll send it to your forum email.

EDIT: Apparently, this is a built in feature to IPB 3.2 and higher, which is why the hook was never updated. Go to the dropdown menu (upper right) and go to View New Content. In the "Other" tab, click "Items I have participated in". This will show unread replies in topics you've posted in :)

Is there no 'forum preferences' any more? I want to disable the fancy text editor but there are no useful options in my control panel.

I think we're missing some of the metal icons on 'board view', and what happened to the icon description table? There used to be a table that described what each icon meant.

You can't disable the rich text editor as far as I know (at least in your settings), but clicking the button on the top left switches it off, and in my experience that setting has always stuck.

I have discussed the lack of icons before in this topic; this does not give icons for read topics. Not a bug, that is by design. The icon table also is not a thing, but you can hover over the icons and a tooltip will say what it means.

surely it should give grey icons for read topics, and highlighted icons for unread topics... it looks weird with gaps.
