Well, Florist was kind of left sitting in a pile of panda bodies, so if you catch up on that fight, you should be good for everything concerning your characters, I think.

Yeah, Deathwish had quite the battle with corrupted!Impact, which ended with Impact calling the cops on him (saying he'd snapped and was killing everyone) and Arsenal taking him into custody.

Though since Deathwish ended the fight merely handcuffed to a lamppost and Impact may have permanently lost her sense of hearing from a grenade blast, it seems clear that Impact wasn't exactly the victor.

I still call it a win for the rest of us, since the same scene that landed Deathwish on the ATTD List also let us see him in humiliated agony. Can't say that for many on the ATTD List.

In a lot of ways there's a lot more justice inherent in What Happened in The Dalles than in Portland.

Double post because of the important realization I just had.

If a flying Epic like Edgerunner or Deathwish were to pick up Glamour and fly with him, Glamour could use his powers and headset to:

I'll leave the implications of Glamour being the Epic version of the Nyan Cat to your imaginative minds. :P

Umm...

Wow.

Well, I have to say I am glad Florist stayed out of it, because it probably would have ended very badly for him.

It was a pretty awesome fight to write. Hopefully an awesome one to read. :D (Though you're right. Florist probably wouldn't have fared well in it. Hopefully he'll get some cool scenes of his own ere long.)

Also, guys! Brandon Sanderson just semi-officially commented on Big Al's powerset!

Mailliw: So, a power to, say, conjure Big Macs out of their pocket wouldn't be too crazy?

Brandon: No. That's actually well within reason.

And actually quite powerful if you don't put a limit on concurrent mass created or speed of creation.

Big Al and Voidgaze will rule as Emperor and Empress from their McMuffin Palace. Which means once it's created, Al will be beyond corrupted, what with the power used in conjuring all those sandwiches....

Which is why it is imperative that Voidgaze make him a plate of tacos, so he'll feel compelled to eat them and face his fear! It's foolproof!

I think Rainmaker would use this epic, but cautiously.  She likely wouldn't enter into any contracts herself, and use proxies instead.  I'm guessing she would use his power sparingly, and only in situations when it would come in handy (such as restraining rebellious epics from causing trouble), and would avoid using it on the large scale at all costs.

One note, do the bargains have to be fair?  In law, generally the courts will not inquire into the adequacy of consideration, unless there is some sort of fraud or misrepresentation or the general purpose of the contract is frustrated.  So, as long as something is offered in exchange for something else, and that offer is accepted, the contract is binding.  So, even if I pay one dollar for the Mona Lisa, that contract is still binding, because consideration was offered by both sides.

Basically, my question boils down to what the limits on consideration are.  How fair does the bargain have to be, and how much can that be stretched?  Also, how do power dynamics play into the fairness.  For example, since Rainmaker is more powerful, would her doing a favour or making a personal offer be more valuable than if Brandon offered the same?

Hmm... Witness wouldn't be too happy with the use of proxies. If those proxies happened to be Epics with useful powers, he wouldn't mind, but he's most likely refuse to deal with a vanilla or weak Epic on Rainmaker's behalf.

Fairness? Witness does not understand what this word means. :P If he's dealing with an equal, he's going to make the contract as appealing as possible, (IE, more fair) but if he can rob you blind with loopholes, he will.

A favour or offer directly from Rainmaker herself would be very valuable, yes. There aren't many things he would refuse to do for something like that. A favour from a random vanilla isn't worth his time. Undying servitude, maybe, a favour, no. I guess you could say that fairness does come into play, but more in the sense of what equal parties would be willing to agree to, as there is no concept of equal exchange inherent in his power. It merely binds two people/parties to their word. So long as something is lost and something is gained, it works.

So do I basically just post in thread and just indicate she's always been there as part of security or something (floats around in the sky cos she can), and see what happens from there? Or should I work out who she'd interact with first and stuff?

(Edit: Eh, I went up at least 1 more rep level with like 16 rep over night?)

That sounds good to me! Maybe she could be a scout? That would make sense with her power set.

Wait, I'm confused, can Witness only make contracts between himself and other people, or can he witness contracts between two parties and make them binding? I was thinking Rainmaker would get him to make contracts between members of her Government and epics she wants to control.

As for a general contract for his services, I'd have to think about that. Rainmaker wouldn't want to make herself vulnerable without good cause. Would he witness certain contracts in Corvallis without being contracted himself?

As for a general contract for his services, I'd have to think about that. Rainmaker wouldn't want to make herself vulnerable without good cause. Would he witness certain contracts in Corvallis without being contracted himself?

He can do both, but he always exacts payment in the form of a secondary contract between himself and whoever approached him for his services. He does nothing out of the goodness of his heart. (He is an Epic, after all.) Basically, every time Rainmaker asks him to forge a contract between someone and a troublesome Epic, he's going to include a clause somewhere exacting some toll for his services. However, since his powers can only affect those that actually sign/vocalize direct agreement to the contract, except in special situations, he's going to try and avoid dealing with proxies. (IE, the bigger the request, the higher up the person signing will have to be, up to Queens, or even Rainmaker herself, for a big enough favour.)

He would, most definitely. A long term agreement for his services will likely limit what he's able to get away with in each individual contract, but it would also give him a greater hold over the government and Rainmaker herself. So that's primarily up to you, as Rainmaker's writer. Witness will do his thing either way, but Rainmaker would have to weigh up the risks and benefits of both options.

So, I've been thinking a bit about my Epics, and I've realized that I've totally forgotten Ironmonger. Which is sad, because he's the only Epic of mine to have made the ATTD list. But it's also good, for the same reason.

Are folks interested in seeing more Ironmonger round here? Or should I stick to Team Paladin for now?

Not only that, but Big Al's powers being "well within reason" also bodes well for some of our other Epics with stranger powers.

How many of those would Autumn know? And with Scribbler-was that a present thing or a future thing?

Scribbler likely would have told both Autumn and Vondra her weakness, though not the reason behind it (Partially because she doesn't know that they're connected, partially because... well I'm sure you can guess)

Most definitely. An Epic like him is an even larger threat than Obliteration. Vondra tries to keep tabs on the most dangerous Epics in his area, and he'd definitely know about it if Iconoclast had singlehandedly taken down Corvallis.

In other news, Brandon just now answered Mailliw's question about unique Epic powers!

Is it just me, or does this halfway confirm that Epics like Big Al exist with unique but useless powers?

Well, that about confirms three-quarters of the Epics on Voidus' lists. :P

Unique useless powers have been confirmed?

...

...

I'll be back in 3 days with an army of several million Epics.

My chains have been unshackled and now I am free to unleash the likes of Jigglicious, TooMuchOxy and the great Papadamus upon Oregon.

"All shall tremble and be mightily confused before my strange, bewildering army!!!"

Partially from confusion, partially because an Epic called Vertebrae shall be leading the charge, his only ability? To make people tilt their head slightly.

Terrifying news all.
The most terrifying of all Epics, the great and powerful, the indisputably awesome METRONOME has been confirmed.

I just had an amusing thought about Miss Isle - as her powers work now, if she looked at the moon... she would rocket up into the sky sooooo quickly (clarity and distance increase speed).

I might have to change something there - otherwise this epic would have spaced herself really quickly...
