Kobold King he/him Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 I still remember what happened in September Back when everyone was banned After we all took a stand It was so foolish Him taking on the ponies What on earth was that guy thinking? He has me now I'm sinking Into introspection Of what happened right before I became so alone... Still can't remember what happened in September When we were forced to pick our side Trails of downvotes in our stride I just discovered the forum had a flame war Over something really small It wasn't worth a fight at all It just didn't belong Like it came out of this board. 2
Comatose he/him Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 18th Shard, your Phoenix post has some issues with continuity. I can't really respond until they are edited out, since I don't know what you will actually be doing. Here's the section I'm referring to: He walked into the city center, flames devouring the ice everywhere, steam floating toward the sky. He yelled at the struggling Epics. "Your city will fall, Rainmaker! May it burn as a beacon of terror for Epics everywhere!" He lobbed a ball of fire at Rainmaker, though the winds surrounding her battered it away. He extinguished his flames, then held out his hands toward Converter, a beam of white-hot fire shooting toward the Epic. (1) This is a smaller one, but they aren't really at the center of the city, they are in the Crystal Lake Sports Field. Check out a map of Corvallis to better orient yourself perhaps? (2) Rainmaker doesn't have a wind field around herself. It's fine you throw a fireball at her, I can respond with how Rainmaker deals with that in my next post, but there is no existing wind-field. (3) There shouldn't be 'ice everywhere'. Rainmaker has thrown one giant hailstone, which is one hunk of ice, and is lowering the temperature directly around Converter, but otherwise there isn't really ice for Phoenix to melt. Lastly, this isn't a continuity issue, but it is kind of going against what Converter and I had been planning for this part. That's fine of course, since this is a free-form RP, and it's always nice to take things in new and interesting directions, but since we've just done a lot of fighting, and we were about to restrain Converter (which she will soon escape), it might be nice to wind things down so the plot can progress in other directions. As things stand we've just had a riot, an attack from Iconoclast, Converter's arrival, and now a sudden attack from Phoenix. With this thread, my original hope was to have a devolution into chaos, since it's not really fun if a couple of high powered epics pop in and blow up the city before we've had much chance to RP in it. I have a couple of other plots to get to, and some characters (such as Hypno and the rebellion characters) haven't had much of a chance to RP in all of these battles. On the other hand, this is free form, so of course, if it makes sense in character for Phoenix to attack right at this moment, I won't stop you. It would just be nice to move forward with the plot. With this in mind, I'd like to know your intentions for this intervention. Is it a hit & run where Phoenix grabs Converter and they run away to plot a more organized attack on the city, or is it just going to be more shooting stuff at Rainmaker and the Queens, because we've had a decent amount of that and it might be nice to try something else? If you are intending to fight here, we should probably all get a discussion going with the players of all the characters involved about how we want this current fight to go. Also Silver, I'm still waiting for that small edit in Converter's post, and some further explanation of the effect lower temperatures of non-moving air have on Converter? I get that normally stopping the movement of air stops any heat from escaping, but with Rainmaker's ability to distort air temperature, she doesn't move any heat, she changes the amount of heat itself, shifting the air temperature from one thing to another pretty much instantly. Would Converter be absorbing her own body heat as it escapes? That seems like it might work, but I'm not sure what effect it would have on her body, and with that, combined with the air shield around her, it seems like she's doing a lot of things at once. Also, I assume the heat from the flames would not get through Converter's air shield, since you said no heat can get through, so she'll have to drop it if she wants to use Phoenix's heat? This is all contingent on Phoenix's actions staying the same post edits of course, so maybe it's not a big deal. Anyone else want to weigh in on Converter's powers, or some ways we can wind up the current scene and move on to the next? 2
TheSilverDragon he/him Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Fixed her post. It now says, " churning mess of air." Not the best substitute, but... Converter.can't absorb any energy that escapes from her, or at least for a while. She's been diverting some energy to maintaining the heat leaves around her, but I don't know how Rainmaker's powers would affect that. Also, how would the winds hold Converter.if she decided to leave?

If you are intending to fight here, we should probably all get a discussion going with the players of all the characters involved about how we want this current fight to go. Let's try a hit and run after you capture Converter. Phoenix has no defense against sniper fire really. If he's unaware, he probably will focus on Rainkaer and no one else, and his regeneration time takes an hour, so you could have a remote sniper take him out after he adds a little chaos. This will probably make him more cautious - he's never really faced other High Epics - and he can try to help Converter escape. Also Silver, I'm still waiting for that small edit in Converter's post, and some further explanation of the effect lower temperatures of non-moving air have on Converter? I added some solutions to Phoenix's attack in blue. To weigh in on Silver's issue, the heat Phoenix adds to the air might dissipate against the air shield, but keep Converter warm enough to not get hypothermia. Edited May 11, 2015 by 18th Shard
Comatose he/him Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Fixed her post. I'm not certain on the nuances of absorbing kinetic energy from the air, but my understanding was that Converter would be unable to move while doing that. You bring up a good point though, if she was absorbing the energy from the wind as it hit her, I'm not sure if it would bring her to a standstill, or if she would be able to move through it. The wind would continually be pressing against her, so while moving into range of the wind would help energize her, I think she'd just keep absorbing the kinetic energy, but I'm not sure if she could then move forward. In my wind, the wind is pushing forward, very hard. Converter is trying to walk against it. She absorbs the energy so she is no longer being pushed back by the wind, but it seems like she should not be able to move forward. On the other hand, maybe she can. Again, I'm not a science guy, so I'm not exactly sure how these powers would all apply, so I could definitely be wrong, and maybe Converter could move through the wind. Rainmaker doesn't know, so her actions still make sense. What it matters for is what we do next. Thanks for the continuity notices. I added some solutions to Phoenix's attack in blue. To weigh in on Silver's issue, the heat Phoenix adds to the air might dissipate against the air shield, but keep Converter warm enough to not get hypothermia. The thing is, she's sucking all of the energy out of the air around her, so at best, she could breath in some of the warmth created by the fire, but otherwise no heat would be able to move through the shield. I like the idea to give us all some breathing room. I looked up Phoenix's profile, and he defintely has some vulnerabilities the Queen's could exploit to trigger his reincarnation and give us all some time. Blaze and Voidus would Cornucopia or Buttercup take initiative to deal with Phoenix as he arrives, or would they wait to see what Rainmaker does next?
Mailliw73 he/him Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Is anyone waiting on any of my characters? Not me, but is anyone waiting on me either? I think I'm all caught up. Hey, I was the only one named in the post tags. If anyone's in charge of the pony uprising it's me. Yeah, I'm just Member 13.
Kobold King he/him Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Not me, but is anyone waiting on me either? I think I'm all caught up. Yeah, I'm just Member 13. I don't think so. But no one would object to more Edgerunner/Frostfire shipping. Stay strong, #13. You're a worthy lieutenant in our glorious uprising.

You're a worthy lieutenant in our glorious uprising. Aonar and I are working on that collab. I think we've written six(?) more segments since the last post. If you guys really want it soon, we could probably post the next section after one or two more segments. This last Emma one was quite a fun one to write. Thank you, Captain Kobold.

Edgerunner's very cute. I'm not 100% sold that Frostfire's her ideal match, but I'm willing to be proven wrong. No problem. #13. Troop morale is very important to our Cause.

After that Tyler guy, Emma needs a nice, non-threatening soulmate. Not one who's a hair's breath away from trying to murder everyone in her city. At ease, soldier.

I'm pulling all the pity cards in her segments to convince Aonar to have Frostfire lighten up. I think I have him convinced, you'll just have to wait and see. )

Why'd I have to read the Pony Invasion thread and the Sanderson Memes one in the same day? Now I'm all out of upvotes. Spoiler: He doesn't hurt her. Yet. (And I don't plan on it.)
Comatose he/him Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Is anyone waiting on any of my characters? I think I might be waiting on a Reader post in the Dalles, but that's it.

But first let me give this message to Frostfire: If you hurt Emma Runes in any way, there is nothing that will stop us from killing you in many horrid ways on the WHOOC thread. The WHOOC thread is like movie versions of the Old West, Frostfire—absolutely anything goes. And I mean anything. Deathwish's redemption scene began with him stealing Arsenal's couch. Think about that next time you consider hurting Emma. 2

Aonar he/him Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Too many posts to reply to: The WHOOC is almost definitely going to see some of Frostfire over the next couple weeks.
Voidus Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 So should I edit my post or not? If there is a non moving layer of air around Converter, then heat can't travel through it since heat is just kinetic energy, and Converter is absorbing all kinetic energy, so would no heat, or any other type of energy for that matter, can pass through. If she's absorbing kinetic energy to the atomic scale then the air would be cooled to absolute zero which would definitely freeze her. The site works again! Yes! (It was dead for my since my last post... I feelt lost ) And what would the reference point for temperature be? Assuming it's the same as for everything else, which it should be, that would give us earth. However, earth doesn't have one temperature but a range from permafrozen ground in the arctics to the molten core of the earth. Even more problematic is that the power wouldn't really be affecting temerature but the movement of the particles augmented by the energy, which is partially random, so you would have to seperate an object into its atoms, map the random movement of those atoms or at the very least molecules and somehow set those relative to the movement of all the molecules making up the planet earth. Meaning there would no longer be a singular refrence point and all of this colapses. Even if you'd manage to do this you would also have to deal with how this is all relative to other influences like pressure and to translate it into actual momentum compare the mass of the molecules your affecting to whatever you choose as the reference. Again, both large and small scale doesn't work at the same time, especially if you only have one reference point. Which brings us to the other problem that stoping lightning like this would only last as long as she keeps the object frozen, which in most cases would mean imprisioning herself, as the hightened electrical potential would just cause another lightning bolt killing her. Well it'd have to be the earths crust if I were to use the earth, too much movement of magma in the core for that to be easily mapable, in reality it'd probably be a small select sample of the earths crust since that's all that's needed, say a piece directly below the object she's affecting of the same size as that object. Rough calculations should suffice for things like pressure changes, I don't think we need perfect mathematical models. Not sure what you mean by large and small scale not working, small scale is a part of large scale you can't really have one without the other. I think that if its travelling through air the charge would actually be equalized pretty quickly, positive ions created by the discharge would pick up the stray electrons. Even if not since it was no longer being controlled it would follow the normal path of electricity and discharge into the ground.
18th Shard he/him Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Voidus, just for clarification, did Cornucopia fire yet? and Blaze, what were you thinking as far as Icyhot and Resistor's abilities/ their capture of Converter?
