How hard would it be for a bunch of scheming Epics in a hotel to notice a pile of zucchinis and several murderous newcomers?

Not particularly hard I'd imagine but considering who those Epics are rather incredibly dangerous.

Speaking of, Twi did you want to go first with the Financier or should I introduce Bioterror?

Just wondering how I should handle said scheming Epics in said hotel when there's a giant pile of zucchinis outside. They're about to split of and do stuff, anyone wanna interact? :D

You can go first if you want.

Well….what are their opinions of gigantic piles of zucchinis? These are characterization questions you never knew you'd need to answer. :P

I think when any of us are writing novels, every now and then we should think back to this RP and wonder how our characters would have reacted to the insanity of Oregon. :P

They'd definitely want to check it out. :D

I'm still trying to figure how Susan Gillespie, ultra-logical ethicist of the 1940s, would react to Doctor Funtimes.

I don't think she'd take it well. :P

Like Fortuity, would her precognition be frazzled by Funtimes' randomness?

(How's that story going, by the way? I don't think I've heard anything about it in a while.)

Probably. She'd take it better than Fortuity did, though.

(I haven't written any more in a while, since I decided to take a break to worldbuild. But I think I've decided that I'll put Susan in a more Professor X-type role, while the main narrator will be a younger, more action-driven teen or young woman. I think she'll be an illusionist. Anyway, Susan's motivations will drive much of the story, while as-yet-unnamed-illusionist will fill a more action-oriented role.)

Twi, how is the Financier likely to react if Bioterror turned his zucchini pile into a pile of rotted green mush?

Kobold, random question: do you have plans for Upgrade to join with Lightwards to remove his limit still?

wait, there is an Epic that can empower other Epics? O.o

We're not sure on the canonicity but yeah he's in Portland, currently working for Corpsemaker and the Dominion.

in terms of canonicity I doubt any Epics would exist that only affect other Epic powers. Seems too meta, and is without precedent in the world.

Although its feasible others before Regalia have discovered how to upgrade Epics, perhaps.

That said, canon has been stretched in this RP anyway haha so I don't think it matters much :P

Yeah I have certain headcanon as to how it works that helps me rationalize it.

Hey, it's hard to stick to the world's mythos when only one book in the series is out. :P

Whoops. :P

Oh dear. :P

Hey, would you mind if Upgrade can give Iconoclast a boost? :P He isn't quite terrifying enough, how about boosting him so he turns people into Ghouls at range, instantly? That sounds fun :P hahaha

You can tell Iconoclast o stop being so greedy. If he wants total destruction and devastation, he can work for it like everyone else. Tell him it builds character. :P

"You zucchinied and here I am." I might start calling Alans zucchinis now. :P

Our slang is growing. :P

Cornucopia in particular wouldn't be likely to just accept a new ruler out of hand, she accepts Rainmaker because they naturally complement each other, she gets perfect weather for her plants plus guaranteed sunlight when she needs to heal. At the very least she could make it extremely undesirable for someone to try to boss her around, she essentially controls the entire city's food, water and utilities as well as possessing a veritable army of armed plants if she needs them.

She might be willing to pretend someone else was in charge but if Rainmaker died she'd want to be the one calling the shots.

Oregon: Civil War coming to your RP 2016 :P

not if she filters the energy she allows in.

So a blanket absorption except for any energy from air, normal levels of heat, light, the heat in her clothes, that sort of thing.

Given that her powers are not supposed to have automatic activation that sounds like to much diffentiation. Afterall how would this blanket know the difference between the kinetic energy of air and a bullet?

I wouldn't mind. ;)

I don't think that would do much given that the upgrades are only temporary.

Yeah I was about to say as well, I've got pages of problems that occur with kinetic energy Epics using powers defensively for Impact and MV. The simplest thing is to freeze a layer of air over their skin then that air acts as an impenetrable barrier since it can't move. But then you need to leave holes so they can breathe.

I don't mind either, although if they don't play nicely I'm not sure how they'd get out alive.

Plus Upgrades already got a dozen people fighting over him and he's in another city. :P

Well she could simply will it to not absorb certain things. We've seen she doesn't automatically absorb things unless she concentrates, so presumably she can't keep this up 24/7, probably because it is too exhausting to do so. And besides, we've seen powers be able to differentiate between dangerous things and harmless things before- look at Obliteration's teleportation.

I think if she concentrated on absorbing any energy bar the harmless sorts that comes near her, it would work fine.

Obliteration has danger sense, that's how he can differentiate. Other than being a precog I don't know that it could really work like that.

well she can already differentiate between the types of energy she absorbs, and presumably she controls the amount she absorbs as well.

all it takes is her to think "ok now I'm absorbing all energy that touches me that is at a higher level than amount nearby me now" and then all energy above that gets absorbed. So setting a bar of energy, and all excess that is higher than that (which would represent anything at all hitting her) gets absorbed.

I think it makes sense if it is a constant thing she has to keep up.

It does but you also need to take into account reference frames, there's functionally no difference between you hitting something and that something hitting you. So if it just stops anything from hitting her at all that would stop her from hitting anything too, which includes the ground and the air.

Now as you say stopping things above a certain energy level works so she could say stop anything moving faster than say 10 mph but then she wouldn't be able to move faster than that either so she couldn't drive.

Essentially I'm happy with the principle but I just wanted to point out the consequences behind it.

hmmm that is interesting.... and true, now that i think about it.
