Tonight I saw the Utah Symphony! :D They were absolutely amazing.

The "feature presentation" was Holst's The Planets. Jupiter is by far my favorite, though I found that I rather enjoyed Mercury. It had great texture. Even better, they had footage from NASA of all of the planets (except Earth and Pluto) to accompany it!

They also performed Ligeti's Atmosphères (including footage of Pluto), and Scriabin's The Poem of Ecstasy.

I prefer Mercury through Mars, although I love the whole set.

I had homeschool prom last night! It was a lot of fun :D and I am so tired today hahaha. My legs feel like I ran five miles from all the dancing.

I really love Mars from the Planets. Fun fact: the 5/4 rhythm that repeats endlessly in Mars also appears in one of the tracks from the movie soundtrack "The Mask of Zorro."

Alas, I find that my stomach doesn't mix with quesadillas anymore. Stupid lactose intolerance.

I thought quesadillas were kind of like tortillas. They have milk in them?

Think of them like cheese sandwiches with tortillas as the bread. They can have other fillings too, usually meat of some sort, and they're served hot.

Yes.  "Queso" in Spanish means cheese - so they're tortillas wrapped around a lot of cheese and some other fillings.

Many (though not all) cheeses do unpleasant things to my innards.

Started having another cluster last night, which I would usually put in the bad days thread rather than here but tonight it was about a 6 on the pain scale rather than a 10 which means the medications I've been working out with my neuro are actually working. :D

That is a cool lake indeed.

I took him to West End Park, and one of the restaurants happened to be playing live music while we were there. You have no idea how beautiful a lake is when you haven't seen anything larger than a swimming pool in almost four years. Bruce loved it, too, and he finds ducks fascinating.

How is the culture overload going for you? NOLA is one of the largest melting pots in US. Just think also there isn't near the population that was there prior to Katrina either. I think up to a 1/3 or more didn't ever move back.

I haven't been here long, so not much of a chance to really get to know the culture, but I'm liking what I've seen so far. It's really diverse here, and everyone is so friendly. (I actually thought they were being sarcastic at first.

Four things:

1. I'm glad that I finally caught up on this site after a Spring Break without wifi.

2. I placed fifth in Cell Biology at Science Olympiad State this weekend.

3. I only missed four questions on the Latin 5 National Latin Exam, so I will get a gold medal.

4. This is the one that I'm really excited about. As a good number of my posts indicate, I'm a mythologist who very much enjoys doing Latin and Junior Classical League. I was worried that we wouldn't be able to pay for me to go to Nationals in July, but a donor pays for one student from each school in our school system to go. My teacher contacted the donor and he gave funds for my trip to Nationals, which is incredibly wonderful! :D

Wow! That's awesome! Good for you! (note: this is not sarcasm, so please don't hate me.)

While researching my WIP, I took a look at the website for my alma mater, Eastern Washington University. Not having any luck, I emailed the librarians, asking if they had any resources about Spokane and its police department during WWII. And they wrote me back! They said they have some resources and they're going to let me know what they have. I did the same with Whitworth, and they also wrote back, saying they'd find what they could and giving me some links to online special collections.

And here I thought you had to be a Serious Author before universities would do that.

They don't know the difference, do they?

Besides what's a Serious Author? It's like "normal", a fictional entity some people strive for but will never satisfactorily achieve because it doesn't actually exist. :P

It's the state non-authors and non-Serious Authors consider to be a Serious Author.

That way you won't ever consider yourself a Serious Author but it will be a perfectly existing state XD

Well, I thought it meant "have at least one traditionally published book" or something like that. :P Luckily for me, EWU and Whitworth had no such requirements.

I can't find the exact link but it was something like: http://maryrobinettekowal.com/journal/debut-author-lessons-mini-lesson-leveling/

There was another one ranging from aspiring writer jealous of a well established author to someone worrying about selling their second book to someone wishing they were a bestseller to a bestselling author worrying that people will get bored of her writing and the new authors are so lucky theyre fresh and interesting.

Basic point being, everyone has insecurities and there really is no threshold crossing of "Im a real author now!"

I get to teach my youth group how to dance tonight, Wooo!!!

Gotta teach the guys how to ask a girl to slow dance, the basics of slow dancing, that stuff.

Then we get to the fun bit, Line Dances!

I'm planning on Cotton Eye Joe and the Cupid Shuffle, a third one that I don't know the name of yet but can look up, and if their bored I guess we can do the Electric Slide( cringe, it's such a boring dance..)

If there's time I might go into some swing dance or waltz.

Is Electric Slide the same thing as Cha Cha Slide? Where there's a voiceover to the music telling you what to do?

Nooooo   The electric slide is a dance from the 80's, it unfortunately still gets played at some dances though, so it can be handy to know how to do it. The Cha Cha slide is much more fun, and since it explains itself I figure I won't need to teach them how :)
