Lazarus52980 Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Doesn't seem like too much of a conspiracy to me. Didn't we get a WoB that TLR tried all kinds of different instruments over the years?
Kelek's Breath he/him Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Is it just me or there is a lot of talking about flutes lately? Hoid, Amaram, TLR... Not trying to make anyone conspiranoic but... Well, TLR is a mountain man/herder. Flutes are the preferred instrument of a lot of human sheperds so it just might be a cultural thing.
Argent he/him Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Looks like the silence may have been just something SDCC-induced. https://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/2ytg2h/im_novelist_brandon_sanderson_ama/ct38ujc?context=10000 Q: Is there anything you are willing to say about how he befriended [Yomen/Joshin]? A: Afraid not.
Argent he/him Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 https://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/2ytg2h/im_novelist_brandon_sanderson_ama/ct3al67?context=10000 Q: Does the difficulty of effecting metals in a body with Allomancy have to do with identity? A: No, more to do with the fact that most people are innately invested in the Cosmere--and certain planets have extra investiture. Something invested is more difficult to transform/move/etc with another form of investiture. Q: Does that 'inside a body' thing work on most magics? For instance, if Han stuck Luke into a Mistborn Tauntaun (a distant and unlucky relative of the mistborn llama), would Luke be protected from both the cold and emotional allomancy? A: He'd have to get him inside a living one. It does work on most magics, though the interactions can be odd unless you know a lot about the workings. Emotional Allomancy, for example, works by lapping against the outsides of someone's cognitive self, influencing you the way music might stir your soul. So being inside a living body wouldn't necessarily stop it--you'd just have more interference. Kind of like how you can still hear music outside if it's loud enough. Actual mind control in the cosmere requires you to get INSIDE the soul, which you've seen happen frequently enough. There has to be a gap or an opening. Or, conversely, you just have to be so powerful that you can push through the interference. Q: Is soulcasting people like Jasnah Kholin did doubly hard since people a have a strong sense of identity and have innate investiture? A: We're getting a bit far on this course, so it's time to pull out the RAFOs. I don't want to overplay my hand and leave the books without anything to talk about. 2

Are oathgates fabrials that mimic the transportation surge? You have said that fabrials can copy all 10. I asked you at minicon if Roshar had always been the only large landmass on the planet and I think you said that there was once no large land mass on Roshar. Did I hear you correctly? I've been kicking my self for months for not recording that small q and a. What is the second ideal of the dustbringers, we know next to nothing about them. What would happen to a bonded spren if it's human was hemallurgically spiked and had his surges stolen. A. This is a valid line of reasoning, but I'm not going to say yes or no. You heard me right. You'll have to wait until one is a main character. RAFO. https://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/2ytg2h/im_novelist_brandon_sanderson_ama/ct4o7r9?context=3 Q.1.a) Can you use Forgery to enhance or diminish a persons intelligence? b)If so could you use it to uplift a non-sentient animal to human levels of intelligence? 2) If a person in the Cosmere built a fully sentient and sapient robot would that robot have a soul? How would it interact with Shardblades? 3) On a vaguely similar note if you cloned someone using real life technology (so not magic) would they have a normal Cognitive and Spiritual make up or be something like a Drab? To what extent could Shardplate resist a bullet? Is Shardplate immune/resistant to regular lighting or just that of stormform? A. Uplifting requires extreme amounts of investiture, and needs to be affixed permanently to the soul. This is beyond what a normal person, even a Forger, usually has access to. Yes. It would interact with Shardblades the same way that Spren do. Cloning would most likely work like creating a twin--the body would pull Investiture for a soul, and you probably wouldn't have a drab. Though it would be possible to do it in such a way that you did create one, if you're simply working from our current cloning technology, you'd get a fully invested human being. 4) Plate would resist a bullet well. 5) RAFO. Q.If you don't mind clarifying then the only questions I have left atm are: How does a Shardblade interact with a Spren? And if full uplifting is practically impossible then are more minor intelligence alterations (like Taravangian) feasible? A.Uplifting isn't quite as impossible as I might have implied. It would be easier, say, than making Nightblood. But, of course, making Nightblood was VERY hard. Shardblades cut on all three realms. I'm not going to say too much here, though I might note that it's possible a robot like you say would act more like nightblood than anything else--depends on what is involved in the creation, and how you determine the difference between a robot and a golem for these purposes. https://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/2ytg2h/im_novelist_brandon_sanderson_ama/ct4ou39?context=3 Q.Hi Brandon! There's one question I've wanted to ask you for a long time: Can you get to the Cognitive Realm using Allomancy? From what I've been reading recently, Shardpools sound like a common way to go.. but Rosharan magic can be used to get to Shadesmar without a shardpool around, for instance. Can Allomancy be used to get there too? A.The parts of Allomancy you know do not allow entering into Shadesmar. https://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/2ytg2h/im_novelist_brandon_sanderson_ama/ct4yfn0?context=3 Q.TenSoon comments that when the unbirthed are given Blessings, they lose the mimickry instinct that mistwraiths have and have to be taught anew. If their only native senses are touch and taste, how exactly do you teach a blob of muscles how to form things like eyes and ears? A.Basically, you feed it some partially digested eyes, then some more eyes, then eventually it starts making eyes on its own. It takes a while; Kandra 'children' grow more slowly than human ones. Q.I don't know if you've considered how mistwraiths would be taxonomically classified; have you decided whether or not mistwraiths would be considered 'mammals'? (Yes, deliberately giving you the option of giving me a mathematician's answer. I'd be satisfied even just knowing if it's something you've thought about.) A.They are not mammals. Since they were deliberately created, I'd place them in their own branch. Edited July 16, 2015 by Kelek's Breath 5

Blightsong he/him Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Dustbringer.... Eshonai I don't feeli like Eshonai is a real good candidate for the Dustbringers, she seems more like a willshaper or a stoneward to me. 2

One theory floating around (you'll see what I did there in a moment) is that Roshar is actually a moving landmass, blown around the planet by highstorms. That would not only potentially explain the shape of the continent, but it also explains the ever changing seasons.

I can imagine some of the Heralds might have wanted to take a break in the middle of a Desolation and spend a few minutes learning to fly. It's tough work, but there's a few perks. A: It has happened. (But it was not common.) https://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/2ytg2h/im_novelist_brandon_sanderson_ama/ct5q31n?context=10000 Q: Can Nogntblood be considered a splinter and does it function like a spren realmatically, are there distinct differences is what I'm asking. A: Nightblood is kind of his own strange thing. He's an attempt to use one magic to replicate something in another. He's closest to a spren, but kind of like a...robot spren, for lack of better words to use. There it is again, Nightblood being an "an attempt to use one magic to replicate something in another." 6
Guest Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Any thoughts here? Adolin? I no longer put Adolin into the Dustbringers... It kind of destroys the "Adolin will revive his Blade" theory, which is awesome. Besides, I do not think he is a good fit for it anymore. I have no clue as to which major character could be a Dustbringer..... Adolin is not a major character so it kinds of kill it of anyway.

Adolin is definitely a major character. He's had multiple view points all very important to the plot. He was being considered for the back 5 for a while as well which leads me to believe that he will gain radiancy in some way. Also mabey his blade is that of a dustbringer, it would make everyone happy XD

How, of course, there is still the possibility he may change his mind about it, but as of now, sadly Adolin does not get a book. He does sound pretty major, right now, but considering we have 10 characters to explore and he is not one of them, I am unsure at to how much development he would get. I dunno if Brandon considers Adolin a major character or not, after all, he did not plan him: he was not part of the original story. His Blade is an Edgedancer Blade. This has been confirmed. Before this WoB, we could theorized the Blade was a Dustbringer, but no. So frivolous, deadly Edgedancer it is if Adolin somehow revives his Blade. I have honestly which major character could be a Dustbringer... The closest match is Eshonai, but she does not give me a Dustbringer's vibe. None of the other announced major players are fit for this order. It is also the one order that does not get a flashback characters (unless its Eshonai).

So frivolous, deadly Edgedancer it is if Adolin somehow revives his Blade. So do you have a link to that WoB on what his blade is i can't find anything about it. I think it is unlikely that he will revive his blade based on this quote QUESTIONCool. I’m not going to bother asking who did right now. With Syl being able to be revived, is Adolin ever going to be able to revive his own blade, or- BRANDON SANDERSON Ah, that would be very difficult, as the orig-, in most cases, the original person who broke the oaths has to be the one. QUESTIONOk. Do you have to have done the third oath before you can convert your spren into a Blade? BRANDON SANDERSONUh, in most orders, yes. QUESTIONWhat about Shallan then? Did she do it, cause she was a kid when she first- BRANDON SANDERSONUm… You will find out more. SOURCE: http://www.theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=1115#48 It is entirely possible that we could have a character that has yet to appear in the books become a Dustbringer and and have one of the later books be about that character. As for Adolin being a major character not only is he the heir to a kingdom, a love interest to a one of the focus characters but he is also the Rival of the other one. In addition to this he is also a view point character. So I'm not sure what criteria you use for major characters but I would say he defiantly is one. However I do not see a point to him being a flash back character on account of I do not think he has much of an interesting history that can not be easily told by as part of Dalinar's flash backs.(Granted that is pure speculation on my part).
ParadoxicalZen he/him Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 (edited) Not much is known of Releasers/Dustbringers just yet so it could be fun to speculate away (my bet's on Navani, that would be frightening ) I can't find the WoB either, I have seen it. (getting nothing on theoryland). It is not so much Adolin isn't a major character (Me and Maxal have been discussing Adolin's potential radiancy here http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/27677-adolin-radiancy-potential-spoilers/) it is more that he won't be a main PoV character (Can't remember if the books will still have this format but it was like a book = 1 flashback character/1 prominent story character. In both cases so far they have been the same e.g. WoK = Kala/Kala, WoR Shall/Shall, in addition to focusing on a particular Order) EDIT: Thanks Weiry! Edited July 16, 2015 by ParadoxSpren
