Vin's earring?

I was trying to do Vin's sister, but there's almost nothing to say about her before she died and it ended up being mostly about the earring and the bit of her spiritweb  inside it, so yes.

Explanation of the boast about Vin's sister/earring:

Greater than mere lord, I am less than human;

She was an Allomancer from an important house, which would make her more important than almost any lord at court; but she was also skaa, which means that the nobility considered her to be an animal and not really human at all.

Least of magi, my power reached infinity's end.

She was a Seeker, generally considered the least important kind of Misting (except by the Canton of Inquisition), and her power, stored in the earring, was present at the death of the Lord Ruler--the end of the Sliver of Infinity.

I am small, then smaller still, dead and fading,

She was a baby, then she was killed and all that was left was the earring, which suffered at least a little loss of power to Hemalurgic decay.

A weapon forged by command of a god,

Her mother killed her and gave Vin the earring on the orders of Ruin.

To be used by a god to destroy gods,

By my power are the wars of heaven decided.

Her sister's power in the earring helped Vin defeat the Lord Ruler (or at least to survive long enough to do it). Vin and the Lord Ruler were both worshiped and the Lord Ruler's death gave Ruin his chance at freedom, eventually letting him kill the weakened Preservation.

Destruction and madness follow my passage;

The earring provides a direct link to Ruin, letting Vin hear his voice and see hallucinations of him.

When my small strength is brought forth

What was always hidden is revealed.

Using the extra Allomantic power from the earring, Vin can pierce copperclouds, hearing Allomantic pulses that are supposed to be hidden.

Light and sanity flee as seclusion dies,

Though without me neither would still be.

The mists--the power of Preservation, the good or 'light side' god of Scadrial--recoiled from Vin while she had the earring in. Without the extra power, Vin would probably have died before Preservation did, allowing Ruin his victory in  the end.

Death comes from the giver of life;

Vin's sister was killed by her own mother.

Continuation is ensured by the slayer of men.

The only bit of her still around--a fragment of spiritweb--is kept in an earring belonging to Vin, who has killed hundreds of people. For that matter, Vin ensured the continued existence of basically everyone on Scadrial.

The light ever distant shines in a forgotten home,

Where the still waters are as changing as change iself,

And on blackened lands we mourn the end

Of our people, long extinct,

And our revival, wrought by sin.

There, I, unchanging change,

There, I, seeking my end,

I dared to break the eternal bond,

To live, to learn, from ever changing change.

And I know, that it will be my end.

Wow. That was a fantastic boast. Bravo.

So, I am going on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in a couple weeks. As such, I am trying to wrap up my affairs before a hiatus of two years. Since I started this thread, I attempted to moderate it as well. So I ask that the people that are here most often, Dankworth, Topomouse, Pulse, Xaladin, etc. to moderate the thread officially in my absense. There may be no need of this, but I leave you with that charge. I may still be on the site until I go, but I'm trying to cut back what I can as much as possible. Thank you all for controbuting and making this a successful way to test our minds and intellect.

Adios.

Possessing neither strength nor guile

I am sought to bludgeon obedience from men

And to persuade the minds of gods.

Born of plenty that refuses gain,

I raised wrath in the greatest god

And the pity in the eldest god's child.

Gone with a fountain spray of gold,

Returned with shadows and howling beasts,

Between the two I note nothing worthy of thought.

It's been three days since the last guess, so I think a hint is overdue.

Pulse was on the right planet.

(It's in white text in case anyone wants to keep trying without a hint.)

Sorry it took me so long to get back, I was distracted for a while--new book, couldn't look away, you guys read huge fantasy epics and all, so you probably know what I mean.

No, it's not Clod. It is a minor character, however...maybe too minor. I was taking allergy medicine last week, and don't know for certain whether benadryl was messing with my head when I wrote this boast. It seems pretty easy to me...but then I know the answer, and the character always stuck in my mind despite their minor role.

I know! I know! (I think.)

It's Lolan, isn't it? Had to go and re-read to get his name, though.

No to both.

Colours, welcome to the game. You'll probably have to look through your book or the Coppermind for names again if you figure it out. Honestly, I was expecting people to forget the name and answer with a character description like if you had said "the servant who got his hand drained of color when he tried to use Nightblood" instead of Lolan.

Misel, Nanrovah's daughter?

Sooner or later we will exhaust the characters.

Yes.

Possessing neither strength nor guile

I am sought to bludgeon obedience from men

And to persuade the minds of gods.

She's a little kid, so she isn't strong or smart enough to make anyone do anything yet. She was kidnapped so Denth could force her father to change his position in the court debates and convince the gods to declare war on Idris.

Born of plenty that refuses gain,

Her father inherited a fortune, but won't accept any payment for his own work.

I raised wrath in the greatest god

When Vasher (who's also Peacegiver, the most important god in the Hallandren religion) saw her in the cage he went into a rage and killed everyone in sight, and I don't think Nightblood was responsible for much of it.

And the pity in the eldest god's child.

This one's about Vivenna's reaction to seeing her in the cage As an Idrian royal, Vivenna is directly descended from the First Returned--the original god of the Iridescent Tones, even if the religion wasn't founded for years after his death.

Gone with a fountain spray of gold,

When Misel was taken, the thieves tipped over a carriage full of valuables, and gold went flying everywhere.

Returned with shadows and howling beasts,

Vasher brought her back in the middle of the night while her family's watchdogs kicked up a fuss.

Between the two I note nothing worthy of thought.

Vasher wiped her memory so she doesn't remember anything about her captivity.

This took a lot longer than i thought it would. As I said already, Misel kind of stuck in my mind--I kinda shared Vasher's berserker rage after reading "Inside the cage was a child [...] sniffling quietly and quivering. The cage stank of human waste, and the child was covered in grime—all except for lines on her cheeks, which had been streaked clean by tears." I figured she would stick in other people's heads too and be easier to guess than she really was.

I don't recall ANY of this. At all. And I've read Warbreaker several times. Looks like I need to pay more attention

Thanks for the welcome.  I'd been thinking of jumping in for a while, but I hadn't read enough of the books yet.

I almost forgot about that particular subplot, too.  -_- In fact, I only remembered Lolan was a thing because Nightblood can drain parts of people seemed like an important thing to know.  I shall join Sarcasm in paying more attention!
