Best Uses For Chromium Compounding

Let's come up with some good uses for Compounding Chromium (basically, infinite luck)! Here is the list so far:

• Close your eyes, reach down, and pick up a conveniently located Lerasium nugget. - Me
• The windshield wipers and/or turn signal happens to be in time with the music. - Snoopy
• You don't run into trees, a la Intacto. - ThirdGen
• Keep my eyes and ears closed all day and just rely on random whims to guide me, then see where I wind up. - Observer
• Compound all night to get lucky. - Frosted Flakes
• In a fist fight, tap to have your opponent miss all punches. Tap more to possibly make them miss and knock themself out.
• Close your eyes, tap and pick stocks. 
• Skydiving parachute malfunction. Tap and keep trying the cord. 
• High speed car chase. Tap to survive without any crashes, while every police car following does crash.
• Bank robbery. Tap and guess at the safe combination. - kaladamSB

Feruchemical powers are all internal, luck cannot influence others. You can't make Lerasium appear in your underwear drawer, because that would require somebody else to put it there, something internal powers aren't going to do. You're far more likely to just happen upon a piece when randomly straying from your routine.

 

So in light of that, I say I'd keep my eyes and ears closed all day and just rely on random whims to guide me, then see where I wind up.

Best way to do what Hoid does without some other yet unknown ability he might have is to tap all your luck, choose a place to go to, and hope something important occurs by the time you arrive.

I will personally use mine as pseudo-atium though. Just fight like a madman and every attack will hit someone.

For more real life purposes I'll tap my luck while grinding rare drops in an RPG or something.

OK. So genetics is luck of the draw, right? ( more or less. Bit more to it than that obviously as genes can and are activated/deactivated by our environment but whatever who cares its random chance. ) Would Tapping luck whilst pregnant/during conception affect the baby at all? Like if the parents had rubbish genes, like bad eye sight, prone to sickness, that kinda thing, would the baby receive all the good genes? Or is something like that too situational for luck to be able to affect?

Since I doubt it can affect things after the fact, especially not external things like the baby's genes, I'd assume you'd have to start tapping on conception. And stop storing like a really long time in advance, to make sure you actually those good genes in your sperm and the egg in question.

All this is assuming you can actually direct the luck at something specific too. You might win the lottery and get promoted and still have a "bad" baby.

Store luck when playing cards or rolling dice, so that your bad luck has an outlet that won't be fatal to you or otherwise harmful. Compound it to absurd degrees, and then close your eyes with a Word document open and start typing while tapping into several year's worth of luck per second. Don't bother giving a single thought to what you want to accomplish with this paper. Don't even speculate on what the result could be. With several centuries of luck pouring out of your fingers, odds are fate will guide you into something that will either change your life forever, or at the very least make your day.

Luck cannot cause events with 0 probability to occur.

I want to let everyone know that my personal view is that Chromium can effect any unobserved event.  For example, if you close your eyes and reach into a bag, you could pick out anything, as long as you haven't looked into the bag already.

Mundane utility is to pick the exact set of wins and losses in luck-based family/friend games to make everyone happy, and all the D&D rolls to make the campaign dramatic.

Real question here is how probability (which would be implied to exist as Luck can alter it) plays into future sight.

I doubt your luck will be able to stop you form getting slaughtered by a Seer. No matter how lucky your punches are, they mean nothing if they can all be seen and blocked in advance. Only if you dropped in a ton of luck would you be able to trick out the atium or mess with the Seer's own balance and abilities to counter you.

the way I understand it, having extreme luck for you would have the net value of extreme bad luck for me so even a seer would have trouble with a luck compounder.

Again, everything I say here is mere speculation, but you're compounding fortune. As in, you are lucky, which is very different from somebody else being unlucky. Atium lets the Seer see your future attacks, and grants them the ability to respond to them almost perfectly. Therefore, no amount of you being lucky with your strikes is going to help. You'll need enough luck to accidentally double your thoughts, or to mess with their mind to artificially induce bad luck. 

But as I said, just speculation and my own personal headcanon.

Observer, I think that you are discounting other ways luck could come into play. For instance, if an assassin had any kind of weakness at all, it would become a problem at just the right time for the Chromium compounder to survive. Defense from the inside, as it were. The assassin has asthma which is hardly ever a problem, which they haven't experienced in years? Guess when the next asthma attack is coming. Knowing it's coming won't help, either, not a few seconds in advance. Can't dodge something on the inside.
