fish321 Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Just noticed that Mr. Sanderson has updated Shadows of Self as 100% done on his websites current projects. Just the first draft I assume but still a reason for excitement and I hadn't seen it mentioned yet. Personally I'm very much ready for a new cosmere novel and the new Wax and Wayne book is one I am very much looking forward to. Perhaps the only release I'd be more excited about would be Stones Unhollowed. 3
king of nowhere Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 he announced on twitter that shadows of self is done. release next fall. the fact that it will still take some 10 months before it is published supports the idea that what was completed was, indeed, the first draft. Looking very much forward to it. wax and vayne have a very special kind of humor that I love.
Young Bard he/him Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Well, Brandon Sanderson finished Mistborn: The Hero of Ages on 21 March, 2006. It was released on October 14, 2008. That means that there was a 2 year, 7 month and 21 day gap between the first draft and release. If it is the same distance for Shadows of Self, then it will be released on: Friday, 21 July, 2017.
Windrunner he/him Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Brandon is far more popular now than he was then. When he sold a book the publisher fit it in their schedule when it was convenient for them, which often meant months or years before it hit the shelves. Now that Beandon is more popular, they release his books as soon as they are able. 3
dewi he/him Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Brandon is God, and god cares nothing for publishing schedules. 9

Autocorrect is annoying and inconvenient but the moment I get rid of it this kind of thing happens lol. Edit: I was waiting for Shadows of Self since I read Alloy of Law in June 2012. So glad it is coming, it felt like it would never be made. He originally meant to write rithmatist two before shadows but I guess he changed his mind because he clearly has this as his current priority. I hope after he writes rithmatist and stormlight he will then finish the wax and wayne trilogy and not leave it going too long. Then after he finishes other important projects he should start mistborn trilogy 2 some time later. I think it is okay that way, better to not leave readers waiting too long in a trilogy, just free up time by completing other projects and start the trilogy in a less busy period of time. Also is it true that he means to put the stormlight archive on a very long hiatus after part 1 concludes? WeiryWriter he/him Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Brandon does currently plan on taking a break between Stormlight 5 and 6 in order to write the Modern trilogy. He did plan on writing The Aztlanian (Rithmatist 2) first but he ended up having a lot of research and pre-writing to do on it and by the time he finished it was time for him to move onto the next project in his schedule.
PeterAhlstrom he/him Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Production on the last few books (such as Words of Radiance) has been too rushed and stressful. We are now aiming for a 1-year production time as a general rule. And that starts when Brandon sends the second draft to his editor. And that's the draft that Brandon just finished, so, November 2015 is what we currently project. The decision is up to Tor though. But they are already planning the cover design. 14
WeiryWriter he/him Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 But they are already planning the cover design. Are they going to try and get the same artist?
PeterAhlstrom he/him Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Yes, Chris McGrath is doing the cover again. 9
fish321 Posted December 1, 2014 Author Posted December 1, 2014 Does anyone know anything about medically induced comas? I think I'd like to be put in one until November 2015.... 5
Oudeis he/him Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Mr. Ahlstrom : Do you know if Mr. Sanderson plans a Firefight tour?
soulcastJam he/him Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 How odd... I've only ever thought of him as Peter but I guess he has a last name. That's what happens when you're Brandon's assistant. You can just go by your first name.

It would seem that even though there were two significant Nalthis cameos in Words of Radiance, Brandon does not want to begin work on Nightblood yet. I had hoped that, yesterday being Warbreaker's 2,000 day anniversary, there would be some exciting news, but no such luck. Will continue to wait. Will always wait. Nightblood.... Oh, I would totally nderstand if brandon want to take more time for his family, it's fully his right, and with the sales he has by now I suppose he doesn't have problems with lack of mmoney if he stops selling books as much as I did. but still, from the perspective of a fan who can't get enough of his work, it sucks.

My question is does this mean that the Rithmatist 2 is now on the back burner? I know that Sanderson was aiming for spring 2016 with stones unhallowed so unless he's even faster a writer then I thought I'm unsure if he'll be able finish the second Rithmatist book and write the thousand pages of awesome that I expect from a Stormlight novel in just a few months.

Peter only mentioned production in the sense of editing, typesetting, and publishing. I don't think this means there'll be books coming out less often, just that there will be a year gap before books come out at the regular speed to give them enough time to edit and do all those fun tasks.

I know Brandon has said he wants to release about one teen book a year. 2015 has Firefight, and the current plan (unless things have changed) is for 2016 to be The Aztlanian. I have a feeling though that it won't get written until after Stormlight 3 which I believe he plans to start working on in earnest the beginning of next year.
Twenty@20 he/him Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 (edited) I cannot help wondering if Brandon plans to complete the Reckoners trilogy before beginning Stormlight 3 since Calamity is 2nd on the current projects list.. Really don't know whether to be happy or sad. Edited December 2, 2014 by Twenty@20
Twenty@20 he/him Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Cool. Back to back Reckoner books will be Epic! (Pun intended!). Thanks for the confirmation Peter
Redbird he/him Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Actually I believe that was punintended.
PeterAhlstrom he/him Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 They won't be back-to-back, since Shadows of Self will come out after Firefight and before Calamity. 4
lordofsoup Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Is calamity coming out late 2015? Goodreads has 6 books scheduled for 2015, which would be awesome for feeding my addiction.
