Tress and Elantris spoilers.

As cool as Aons are, I think that they lack use in combat unless you have a quick hand and remember all the modifiers. Since AonDor can function as a semi coding language, what tools could be built with them?

Drones with plates carved with instruction, maybe a pair of lock picks?

Well now I am imagining a crazy invested weapon that nightblood style draws investiture to power it's Aons carved onto the surface to do some crazy sword thing

I wonder if you could create some kind of swarm of plates with Aons inscribed on them and rearrange them at will to accomplish different things. Maybe suspended in some fluid, maybe in some sort of frame with panels. Even better if combined with Awakened components to rearrange the plates dynamically in response to changes in the environment.

SPOILERS FOR ONE OF THE SECRET PROJECTS

We see two Elantrians fight in Tress.

Spoiler

A. I don’t remember that fight too well, and how realistic is it to write a few sentences with perfect handwriting in the middle of combat?

It is possible to make a large sequence of Aons, and design an Aon to fire them all at once. So you can set it up beforehand and trigger dozens of linked aons in just a few seconds, spamming energy bolts, fire blasts, transformations, shields, healing, and simple instakill aons all at once. We also know Elantrians could just step up to a predrawn teleport plate, put a hand on it, and be transported. So you can just carry preinscribed plates around with you and press them like buttons. AonDor actually has one of the highest rapid-fire potentials of all Cosmere magic systems.

Spaceships are probably a good use of this. Large enough size for the enhancement Aon, then hundreds of Aon Daa for bombarding opponents or planets.

Technically…

You don’t have to be “there”

Using the aforementioned teleport plates, you could theoretically teleport a massively enhanced Daa Aon anywhere in the Cosmere as long as you had enough investiture.

Congrats, we’ve just made remote, instantaneous, ftl(as it uses the spiritual realm where space doesn’t exist), nukes that can be as big or as small as we want. The only limitation being our knowledge of Aons, knowing where to strike, and access to investiture.

The difficultly of getting into space severely limits spaceships in practical size (until there's a breakthrough), but I can absolutely see Aonic war machines that consist of giant aon arrays on wheels or, potentially, just teleporting around. Imagine if you have an Aon Tia pointed in every direction with a solid distance parameter, you could make your mass bombardment/forcefield generator/whatever extremely mobile. Or you could build titanic Aon sets that are essentially nuclear weaponry and not need to move at all. Even that is probably small scope compared to the full potential of the magic system employed at a national level- just scaled up versions of the basics. I can't imagine what wonders Aonic magic as a science might put out.

There may be huge issues with planetary orbits and solar systems moving, it would be nearly impossible to use Tia with that much accuracy imo without some crazy computers or real time data.

The accuracy would be the lesser problem- the amount of Investiture to travel that distance in the Physical realm would be ridiculous. A city-sized amplifier let Raoden cross a sea, but to teleport across lightyears you'd need an amplifier Aon the size of a planet.

True. Probably not happening without Shardic influence.

Another way could be to use waystops to jump the bomb multiple times to the target.

IotED

Spoiler

Such as Drominad since it is between Scadrial and Roshar.

Actually no, it’s all perception based. Because of the curvature of planets, when Raoden pointed his Aon Tia, it wasn’t actually pointed at it. As long as the person triggering the Aon has the right perspective and general direction you should be fine.

we don’t know if that’s the limit though. We know it could get to that, but we never saw anything to suggest that he couldn’t go further. We don’t actually know the limit of what Elantris would’ve let him go.

So yes, it would be a lot, but not as much as we might think. Also, that’s just infrastructure, once you have it you’re good forever
