Signature Line Height

In @LadyLameness's Policies post, they state:

However, the actual length is three lines:

I feel like the post should be updated to say three, even if users will find out themselves (like I did) when they try to do four lines.

 

Edit: @al_lan_mandragoran's Sig appears to be more than four lines, but possibly not counted by the system. Does the system count the number of newline characters? If so, mine obviously fails, while Mandragoran's will succeed (since the fourth line is produced from the text continuing on the next line, not the Enter key.

(I copy+pasted their Sig. Note how you can tell its three lines because the three sections have the background highlight from pasting. Also the space between sections.)

Shorter is better - that's why you have a profile for all the things - and can link that profile in your signature. Here are some other threads and details to tide you over until an Admin can respond officially:

The problem is that when you are scrolling through a topic, particularly with many short posts, big signatures add a lot of vertical space and noise. Compare this to what is now an objectively more popular way to communicate, Reddit, and it's just so much easier to read a sequence of text there. 

Forums have had much less membership over the last ten years. Let's try and not accelerate that process more and make the forums look nice for all, so people want to join in.

Lines are different from paragraphs. The system lets us control the number of line breaks (in other words, paragraphs). 

However, you can have a single paragraph that is extremely long. For example:

The system will let you do that, but we as staff will ask you to cut that down, as that's huge to scroll through on every single post. We cannot technologically enforce that, so we must do so manually.

So we are saying even if it is a single paragraph, it cannot span more than four lines in height. (Relative to desktop on the maximum viewport.)

Long signatures suck for everyone and make browsing the forum on desktop bad. The system doesn't allow for every conceivable way I would want to control it, but it does control for some things.
