Right. I've got a name.

Lharir was Starseeker's head priest before Starseeker went off-world. He now awaits reassignment.

Noted!

It's weird. They're the same size, though.

@A Jo in the Bush Were you in The Flame of Tar Valon? It think that was LG:105.

I was! I ran for office, but then had to go inactive due to IRL things.

Will the recipients be announced?

Good question, I was wondering if that would be asked! Nope! Only the members of the court will know who they gave the breath too.

Ah what the hell count me in as Evi 😛As I told Aman I'll be out 4-7 September so if you're OK with a cycle or 2 of inactivity I'll be happy to play :)

QF76 reference?

I'll take it 😋

Plus, I already established Evinir was back on Nalthis in QF76...

Nine years ago...

Ekkar had a secret. He wasn't like the other priests. Yes, he served the gods, and he served them well. But he was different. It wasn't just his youth; there was something else. He had grown to hide it, over the years, fooled his own mind, by his parents' constant reminders, fear in their eyes, words on their lips. Murmurs, whispering a single message. "You cannot be Idrian."

And yet, Ekkar knew his heritage. He had never been to Idris, nor spoken to many Idrians. So he couldn't explain why the inner conflict tore him apart on the inside. It had pushed him to extremes in his past, caused him much sorrow and regret. It was a question he had tried to answer first with his studies, and now with faith. Because at heart, Ekkar Loral didn't know who the colors he was.

Tonight, Ekkar was in mourning. Years ago, at a time when he was at his worst, Ekkar had met a man who had tried to help him to find the answers. Despite having only spoken in person a couple times, Ekkar had felt a bond with Evinir. The older man had been brash, confident, even arrogant at times. But he had known exactly who he was. Evinir had been a lifeline. Then came that night, a year ago today, when conflict had erupted in Idris. Ekkar didn't know much; only that Evinir had fought bravely, was incarcerated, and then... disappeared. He was presumed dead. The news had shattered Ekkar. Lost, he had rejected the Cause and joined the priestdom at the lowest level. And had begun to climb.

Slowly, Ekkar dampened the candle next to him, leaving only a single flame to illuminate the small shrine in his quarters. He sighed, eyes lingering on a scrap of paper - the first note Evinir had wrote him back, all those years ago - after nearly a dozen of Ekkar's. The memory brought a wistful smile to his lips. It faded quickly. Resigned, Ekkar leaned over to dampen the final candle... before he was interrupted by a familiar voice.

"Quite the visionary, wasn't he?"

Ekkar gasped. No... it couldn't be... slowly, he turned around, wary of what he would see. A tall, lanky man, with dark hair and a new glint in his gaze. Ekkar's eyes widened. In the shadows, Evinir Cragborn smiled.

Signing up as Ekkar Loral, an Evinir fanboy - and contact in the priestdom!

I seem to have been signed up for this game. I at least request a character name change to Arlun.

Noted.

Wilson says she will be able to decide if she can be the IM on Monday. If she cannot, is there any other option besides you?

None of the other mods are available, so I’ll back out and IM if she can’t.

I’ll sign up as Iggdraz the Confused.

Brace for impact, and also inane questions.

I’m not a Returned, but I’m confused and think I am!

Yeah that tracks.

The Game starts in 22 and a half Hours!

Little Wilson has agreed to be our Invincible Moderator, so if @Araris Valerian still wishes to play, we will have 13 players, the unluckiest of numbers, meaning we need more players to sign up! (Joking. It doesn't matter how many we have, it will be fun no matter what.)

Elsecaller the Careful woke up knowing deep in her lungs that she had failed her title. She sat up in her bed, took in the kneeling servants and priests and took stock of her dreams and her body.  Her attendants were surprised, was that because she woke up earlier than normal, or because she woke up at all?

"Tell Ivory to attend me in my chambers as he is. Waste no time." She gripped one of the bed posts and stood, feeling her body fail to immediately adjust to the new height. It was failing. It shouldn't be. She'd received a breath yesterday. She'd somehow been poisoned. "The rest of you are too gather my priests in the main hall. If they are undressed, they do not get time to dress. Prioritize everyone who was on duty yesterday."

About half of her attendants, the more subservient ones, had already stood and dashed off to obey. Some of the priests and servants were more confused, or stunned, or slow on the uptake. She ignored them and strode out of the bedroom. She didn't have time to waste.

:-**-:

Four hours later, priest Kabsal was kneeling before her, soldiers gripping his arms and keeping him there. Elsecaller was finishing reading the report on his past while a trio of carefully vetted doctors squabbled over the blood sample they had taken from her. Ivory looked horrified. He had been her head priest for all of her Returned Life, and she had never seen him this distraught. Elsecaller glared down at the man who had poisoned her.

"Kabsal, of all the staff in my court, you are the one most likely to have done this. You had access to various poisons from maintaining my experiments, and you had access to my food, as you conveniently took your lunch break just before my lunch was being served yesterday. You also apparently have large debts, that had been hidden from previous accounts. Means, Motive, Opportunity. No one else has all three. Can you refute me?"

The priest spoke to the floor. "I thought I had learned sufficient carefulness from you, my lady, but I see now that I have failed your test. And so I shall die with you."

Coldness spread through her at the confession. She had hoped she'd been wrong. But she had prepared and expected to be right. If only she'd been more careful before this, been this through prior to today. "Why Kabsal? Why did you poison me?"

"I will not say. Whatever you do, you only have the rest of the day to do it. I think I can last a day, no matter what you put me through."

Elsecaller debated. What was the best use of her time? Finding an antidote? Finding Kabsal's accomplices? There probably wasn't an antidote. Kabsal might not have accomplices in her own court, or he might. It could be white hunt. No, she was thinking about this all wrong. How could she accomplish the most goals in her time, and ensure the rest were accomplished afterward?

"Ivory, gather my priests, and send invitations to the priests of Bondsmith, Stoneward, and Willshaper. Tell them I will be giving up my Breath before the day is out. I want you to watch how they make their decisions."

MR74 - C1: Ivory
