FYI: I use dnd-spellbook.com for my spell lists - its free and ridiculously easy to use. I guess that's true. Honestly, I bet the flavor is going to be hard to do, but come back once you've tried him (or maybe you already have) and tell us how it goes.
FroggerCollectsHats they/them Posted December 16, 2025 Posted December 16, 2025 I have a couple. Probably will have more. This personality mix calls for some fun stories. I am DMing for my father, sister, and neighbor. My dad is a 40 something retired soldier, my neighbor (the youngest one here) is a rogue, my sister is a 16 year old (human aging equivalent) sorcerer gnome who's only dream is for one of the party members to give her a piggyback ride. We walk into the room and there is a statue of a dwarf holding a shiny thing and looking at it greedily. Nyx (my sister) enters the room first, followed by Carl (my dad's character). Ian (my neighbor's character) wisely stays out in the hallway. Ian correctly chooses to not trust Nyx with anything. Nyx and Carl stand there for a bit, and my neighbor asks me a question at the same time as my sister says "I pick up the shiny thing and put it back really fast. Am I good?" I ask her to repeat, after which I say "NO, you are not good! That thing blows up in your face! What did you expect would happen?" Nyx and Carl are both down to 0 hp (they're both at level 4 or something) and Ian is debating helping them. He does help them, but was unable to save Nyx. I was nice and let her off with a missing arm. Later, we're walking along, when we find a horse. Carl wants to keep the horse. The horse likes him. The horse is now named Carl Jr. Unfortunately, Carl Jr belongs to a farmer we end up rescuing from a bunch of orcs. That was fun. Ian backflipped through a window. 2

Through The Living Ash he/him Posted January 22 Posted January 22 (edited) Okay so in one of the groups I’m in, two players are a dwarf fighter and a like 10 foot tall Goliath barbarian. So they decided to get a custom made baby-carrier style “saddle” for the Goliath and have the dwarf ride on his back to gain the advantages of mounted combat. Well, this ended up becoming stupidly strong, as they can choose which one of them gets hit when either does and have the ability to reduce damage taken, so they effectively have 500 hp combined at level 10 which is completely ridiculous but somehow the dm allowed it. They also took multiple feats related to mounted combat so that whenever one gets hit, the other can use a reaction to attack the person who hit them. And the Goliath has an ability that lets them push people back ten feet when they attack, which then allows the dwarf to take an opportunity attack against them as well. All in all, it’s completely broken, but also absolutely hilarious. Edited January 22 by Ashkaloda hav ether=have the 2

You'd make a good DM" and shes like "Yeahh thats what I was afraid of" I was laughing so hard Don't blame her either 1

al_lan_mandragoran Posted March 2 Posted March 2 (edited) Anyone relating to this? I've thought about doing something like this, but I'm not sure if I want to go to all the effort. Edited March 2 by al_lan_mandragoran 3

But that was unintentional, so does it count? I'm starting a new campaign in a few weeks. It's a heist. I'm playing a paladin with full plate armour and a Dexterity of 8.

I recently started up a campaign set in Stormlight with friends, but they've all read it to a varying degree.
Clarkmon22 He/Him Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Okay so In my current campaign, we were in the middle of some really thick woods, wandering around and being idiots because we kept failing perception checks (background: my DM loves being annoying). Another player and I were looking for food, and we stumbled upon a 'mutated, red skull-looking, creepy-ah deer.' The deer went first in initiative (because 'everything's a predator in these woods') and cast mirror image. We proceeded to attack and killed the deer while it was casting the spell. we started to cut up a carcass, but it disappeared. We figured that was normal, bc mirror image, yada yada yada. We tried to cut the next one, and it did too. Then we tried to cut the third, and it disappeared as well. Then, very helpfully, our DM said, 'The deer ran away on its first turn; the things you were fighting were clones.' 4
Eluvianii he/him Posted March 18 Posted March 18 So, in one of our current campaigns things have been pretty fair, most of us are still on our first character. Exception being the one player that listens to intrusive thoughts who's on his third (arguably fourth) character, and the player that very rarely can come, who's also on his third character, this being entirely thanks to the other player, amazingly enough. Now, no matter the intended tone of the campaign, we're not a serious table, so this isn't really a problem, but intrusive thoughts guy, there's no denying it, he's a not a good player. His characters are all the kind of people to solve all problems by the sword. And this results in A LOT of choices that are undeniably evil, even though he doesn't see them as such. Particularly funny when he tried to play a paladin. He'd go into a fortress, get an ambiguous detect evil reading, draw his sword and be ready to (attempt to) take on the whole fortress. He'll randomly try to kill NPCs the party has befriended because "they're bad guys", doesn't even need to be a paladin to pull that one. And, most recently, he gave away the newest character from absent guy, on his second or third session I might add, and with the player absent, to a bunch of shady paladins. "Yeah, we found this guy at the monastery, you should question him." We found out next day he died during questioning. So when his current character died (admittedly due to bad luck this time), he finally agreed to play the evil route because that's honestly what his "good" characters do anyway. However, it was agreed unanimously that this character couldn't be something as simple as Lawful/Neutral/Chaotic-Evil. The increasing bulk of his actions has granted him the alignment [Character name]-Evil, as clearly he's something special not covered in the rulebook. So yeah, that's how we ended up creating a new alignment for our trigger happy player. 2

The only thing original about my main homebrew setting is how many different books/fandoms have been crammed in there. Heck, just last session my party went from talking to the witch queen, Riina, to facing the bosses of the gnome mafia, the Mario brothers, and they were hauled there by the enforces Snap, Crackle, and Pop. As I said, our table is nowhere near serious enough for that. Chaotic characters are part of the fun. We just found it funny how much evil he commits while thinking himself lawful-good, it's become part of his identity as a player, so we tease him about it. 1
Conure1243 He/Him Posted April 2 Posted April 2 (edited) This place seems like a good place to share one of the most weird things that has ever happened to me in D&D For starters, I don't have any running campaigns, as I don't know very many people who live nearby to run one for me. However, when I visit family members, I'll occasionally join into their campaign for a session. In this particular session, we (The newcomers) were playing a game of Capture the Flag against the members of the main party. The flags were all on top of towers, and I was carrying another teams flag to my own tower. During this time, my cousin, an opponent to me, got on top of the party's talking horse (Long story), and teleported both him and the horse on top of the tower, grabbed my team's flag, and then leapt from the tower and landed on my character, stealing a second flag, before running into the distance. I didn't even try to resist, it was just so beautiful. Hard to explain it in a way that makes sense though. Edited April 2 by Conure1243 5
Born of Mist He/Him Posted April 23 Posted April 23 I don't have any good stories but there was this one time that I peer pressured my DM/GM to let my character, an artificer, make a mech suit That was fun *Pacific Rim music starts playing* 2
