No, since the unsea around First of the Sun isn't "more viscous than water", but the opposite. But speaking of this TLM epilogue, the Sho Del are supposed to be "...excellent guides. They might be excellent guide relative to the time period they are being called excellent guides in. Or they are good going from known point A to known point B while Navigators are better with uncharted areas.

So, in theory, while most travellers would only have the Knell as a point of reference, they would have two points of reference (possibly enabling triangulation to assist in navigation).
