Aelorin stepped up, feeling the bulletproof vest under his jacket as he shot the rifle upward.

”EVERYBODY LISTEN UP!”

Aelorin announced loudly. “Money, possessions, supplies, to me! Throw them over!”

He was really only interested in the supplies, but he had to fit the part.

Aaron looked down, worried. He didn't want to fight back, so he looked through his wallet. Spare change, a debit card, mostly worthless in the dystopia that was New York City.

Suddenly, nearby, a truck exploded.

Aaron, terrified, tried to tuck his wallet away, but the mercenary hadn't been distracted by the sudden explosion.

Catie put her bike helmet on. That's what she did whenever the scary stuff happened. So far, it had kept her alive nine times out of ten.

Caedmon cursed softly, looking over his textbook. Two weeks. Two weeks since the world had gone bloody insane. "Oi, Joseph." he hissed. "You think they'll attack again tonight?"

Aaron snapped, suddenly angry. He sprinted at the mercenary, tackling him.

"Crazy how society has adapted." Caedmon remarked nonchalantly. "Runes, bells, it's been efficient. Not like in the States, I hear." He shuddered. In America, everything was going to hell.

TwinStorm can I add an introduction/back story like

42 minutes ago, Argenti said:

Joseph was sitting in class listening to the professor drone on about Kennings and Fragments of old poetry, when it all began. He just so happened to look out the window when he saw a mountain in the distance begin to shake. The rumbling low groan hit him seconds later. Is that an earthquake? He wondered for a second before realizing how dumb he was. Not in Norway, it's not? That's when he saw the mountain turn, and a bearded, long-nosed face, seeming to be formed from the very forests themselves peer towards the town.

That's when pandemonium erupted.

A Skogtroll? Joseph thought, while calmly packing his backpack, people screaming and running from the classroom.

"Hm. They're supposed to be a myth."

Two weeks later.

---

Joseph sits in class, struggling to focus on his book over the constant boom of church bells. They keep the trolls at bay, you know. Every kid here knows that. Joseph learned that in Norwegian folklore class last semester. Cool stuff.

Course that didn't help against the Lindwurms, Alv, and Landvættir. Not to mention that damn Kraken. But most of the things that popped up over the last two weeks were harmless; the Alv and the Landvættir were only dangerous if you didn't know what they were, the Kraken could be kept fed easily enough, and the rare god or jotun were satisfied with praises in their honot. Everything else? Turns out runes started working now, and Oslo has since turned into a magical fortress. Who knew learning old norse would be so helpful?

"Better myth knowledge, I guess. All this" He gestures to the distant hills and writhing sea "Has always been real, in a way. Solutions were already known. I've heard the reservations in the US aren't doing too badly. Unlike Texas." Jakob shudders, thinking of what he's heard. "I hope my parents are okay."

Aelorin didn’t actually want to kill him (he respected bravery), but he had to make an example…

He raised the weapon, shooting another in the crowd and giving a wicked grin. “It’s your fault, that death.”

He looks back to the truck briefly. Very briefly.

"Your folks okay, Caedmon? Where in the UK do they live again?"

So new england has like zero recorded ancient myths. We genocided everyone before anything could be recorded. How recent is the folklore?

Yamata No Orochi, or Yam, looked out across the world. He was amazed at how much it changed after he died. But he was different, too. Smarter. Faster. Stronger. He had learned from some of the strongest gods, and one could argue that he was no longer who he used to be. He was currently in the ocean, but he had gained at least partial omniscience from some of the gods. He also knew how to teleport and do plenty of shenanigans. He had learned. Yam then decided that he needed to help the humans. What a curious thought. Was that from his... what did the humans call it? Conscience? Yes. It was. It appears he has a conscience now. How odd. Who did he learn that from? Who indeed. Yam then decided to see how good old norway was fairing. It's been a while since he'd been there. Yes. It has. Yam then shifted into a human and decided to teleport to norway. He might watch for a little while before acting.

Amidst the wreckage, a shape emerged. A massive shape, shrouded by the billowing smoke.

"I'm Irish." he responded ironically. "At least on my mom's side. My dad's Scottish. Fey, and elves and all that . . ." he paused, reconsidering his words. Not nonsense. Not anymore.

Just now, SpiritOfWrath said:

Aelorin frowned. “Kid. Run. Alert the crowd.”

Aelorin backed away slowly.

A roar was heard as a massive scaly beast emerged, mouth billowing fire. A dragon.
