It became apparent that that was the source of the scraping as he steadily walked toward them. He was quite thin, but his upright posture and stern expression defied any notion of fragility.

He surveyed them with sharp, dark eyes, taking in Sigismund's posture and Jidah's weapon calmly. He spoke with a slightly raspy voice that, while soft, conveyed an authority that demanded to be heard. "Now, now. There won't be a need for any of that, you three."
