Gem stand there awkwardly, very confused.

Elan was not there with Ave

Instead there was this dude.

Who was this dude.

Gem maybe knew him?

He sighed.

Gem knows Pic, he got mad when Pic and Ave broke up and he thought Elan was trying to "replace" his dad, because Ave told him Pic would be like his dad

She seemed calmer with him, at least a little, than she had been moments before.

Okay couldn't remember

Oh yeah... dad.

Past dad.

Pic?

Gem was glad that mom was happy, but he was a little confused. Hadn't they left each other? What was going on?

As the minutes passed, her sobbing started to slow. The music was helping her.

"Huh? Oh... yeah... Gem... that's me."

She took a few breaths, then looked around. Gem… Elan… Pic.. JM, Ash…. And even more….

He was my only family…

My only blood family.

It couldn’t be possible to be so broken yet still feel whole. And yet…

There she was.

“Mom, I love you.” Gem said, laying his head on her shoulder.

As Insa made her way down the hallway, the pain in her shoulder grew until it was almost unbearable.

What the heck?

You shouldn't apologize.

I'm going to whether you like it or not.

The pain won't stop.

I don't care.

Insa entered the room and moved to grab a chair with her left hand. She gasped as pain shot through it upon making contact with the chair. Quickly, she grabbed the chair with her other hand and moved it so she was sitting in front of Aventine.

"I owe you an apology."

Aventine? Most likely to feel loved and supported. The simple truth is her dad didn't truly love her. My guess is that's where most of the pain comes from, that she'll never get to feel that love.

Insa

As Insa walked, a tingling pain began in her shoulder.

Why are you going to apologize?

Because Saar. That's what you're supposed to do when you hurt someone.

Insa entered her room and changed her clothes.

She transitioned from traveling to something outwardly less practical: a long, flowing brown skirt paired with a simple long-sleeved white blouse. She twisted her hair up into a low bun. She used a special mirror to do so. As she fussed with her hair, something else caught her eye. At the base of her neck on the left side was the beginning of a scar much like the one Lerac had removed from her. It looked like it could stretch down her arm. She froze as a thought occurred to her.

You shouldn't be able to talk to me.

Oh, Insa. Your boyfriend is gone. Nothing is stopping me from doing anything.

A shudder ran through her. She didn't respond as she finished doing her hair and began to make her way back to the infirmary.

Elan stood quietly, watching the two of them. Something stirred inside him.

She needs him. Not me.

He felt strange. An idea forming in his head. He looked at Aventine, but he didn't see her like he thought he used to.

She was so small. So fragile. She was amazing, but what he felt wasn't romantic. It wasn't like that. It was like...

He had a sister, once. In a faraway life. She reminded him of her. He cared about her. He wouldn't let her get hurt.

She's yours. Keep her safe.

Pic let her lean on him, and noted all of the people around her who she had taken care of and who had taken care of her. She'll be alright. She has so many good people, and she is changing many more. Everyone else came in and sat around Aventine, growing her foundation over and over again. The stave in front of Ash spiraled into a thumbs up and then dissapated, reappearing next to Pic.

A sense of peace radiated through Pic, originating from the Clinic itself. I know, I know, he thought, smiling softly, You always take care of your own. Mild amusement was added onto the peace, followed by a quick sense of confusion as Insa enetered the room and moved in front of Aventine. Pic's eyes focused onto her. She looked intesne, and her declaration put Pic a little bit on edge.

She looked at her from the sides of her eyes and didn't respond. Her face was still red, her makeup still running.

Her breathing was a decent bit more normal now.

Insa tried to sound as genuine and compassionate as possible. She meant everything she was about to say but the pain made it hard to sound or look that way.

“First my actions have caused you a lot of pain. I don’t regret taking them. But I regret and hate with all my being the pain it’s causing you. I know I don’t know perfectly but I have a good idea of what you’re feeling right now and if there were any way for me to take that away from you without dehumanizing you I would. Without any hesitation.”

The pain increased dramatically. Insa stabilized herself with the arms of the chair trying to avoid passing out.

”Second,” her voice was less steady and she wasn’t quite looking at them, “I haven’t been the most compassionate with you when I should have been. I allowed my numbness to bleed into how I treated you and others and that is the exact opposite what I should have done.”

She took this in for a moment, then turned and looked at Insa fully. She seemed to be trying to hold something off.

Aventine had swallowed some metals in secret in the mansion. She could use some of it now.

She tried to Riot a sense of strength in Insa, as well as a will to overcome whatever was happening to her.

Insa gave Aventine a small smile.

”I’m so so very sorry.”

She moved slowly to stand up. And the slowly made her way over to the cupboard leaning heavily on the counter.

She didn’t answer, but kept up her Rioting.

A small rebellion in itself.

Insa leans on the counter, attempting to recover and force the pain away.

Saar. Turn it down a couple of notches, please.

Only because I don't want you to crack your head open and die when you pass out.

The pain dulls to something much more tolerable. Her whole body relaxes.

"Oh! I almost forgot."

She hands a small box to Aventine. "These are for you and Gem."

She blinked and slowly reached out to take and open it.
