Hayden frowned. He did not trust him, but did not think Acks a murderer either, not after this. "I see."

Acks nods towards the other two that had sat down with Hayden. "So, who are your friends here?"

"Omigosh Is that a cat? Can I pet her? What's her name? She's so cute. Oh my gosh!"

Mihtig blinked at Malmoc as he entered the tavern. “Go on,” he said softly, pressing mint-laced fingertips into her coat, then tapping her back paws. She leapt from his shoulders to curl around those of the little girl and began smelling her. Malmoc thought for a second, then leaned down, keeping a hand in his pouch. “That’s Mihtig. You can pet her as long as you don’t poke. What’s your name, little one?” There was a smell to her too, but he couldn’t place it. Mihtig would know. If they still worked the way they were supposed to, she could have told him later.

“I’ll stick with water. Alcohol tends to lead to accidents, and with my luck drinking is a bad idea. But we should probably try and talk to some more people. I hear there’s some misting about, maybe we’ll run into one of them.”

Byrar follows him to the in and takes a look around the room. So many people, any of whom could be trying to destroy the town.

“Water? Even better. There’s a fire, there’s a fire somewhere…” Its smoke was already filling his nostrils. He glanced at the brazier in the corner of the room, then reached into his pouch. “Tea? Ah, but we need a kettle… No matter. They’ll have one. He knows my ways better than most, he does…”

Malmoc looked around the room, sizing it up. Nearly everyone he expected would make an appearance there. Hayden’s form, not as slumped as he’d pictured it, running his mouth with Acks about Allomancy. That was an intriguing conversation, but probably best avoided. He’d had his run-ins with Acks too. They…tended to talk past one another. And whether the man had the powers he claimed or no, his scent was unsettling. Malmoc could recognise another man trying to move on. The question was, from what? If the air in the tavern was to be believed, many thought it was something sinister. He wasn’t sure if it merited the attention that the man was getting, though. At least Acks was present among them, and giving an account of himself. More worrying to Malmoc were the figures of those like Hyena or Penguin who seemed to see no need to speak, yet were still lurking in the corners of the room. True, there were some who shared his own reticence for speech, and the air of cordiality was still over most of the conversations, but surely men such as these had something to do, in word or deed, that was not merely observatory. ( @Charcoal Hyena @Chartreuse Penguin)

Breathing in the air of the room, he noticed another man who was also watching, yet with a keener eye. Malmoc smelled wariness from this one, and his scent was not that of the rest of Tyrian. A newcomer then. It would be best if they were all on speaking terms. This was not his way, but he steeled himself to approach the stranger, hand still in pouch. He subtly unscrewed the jar of meadowsweet, letting it soothe him before he spoke. “Who are you, stranger? And do you have a kettle my friend here could borrow?”

Praise the Ja

Someone watching who doesn't give much thought behind an accusation with not much explanation to it. I'm curious as to why they're suspicious of the quiet person. Just a random suspicion, or was there a reason behind it?

There's a few other things I've noticed while watching:

The gambler seems to not feel any pressure, which I consider to be an ok look. I'd expect a saboteur to flail a bit more under pressure, even if it's just a single person focused on them. However, he doesn't seem to address the person despite the accusatory gaze I'd expect he's noticed, so this point may not mean much. I note it to myself regardless.

The drunk man gives off weird vibes. Call it my intuition, maybe, but something feels off about him. Specifically, I dislike their response to the gambler about who the saboteur is - it's a bit deflective, perhaps? I've never been good with explaining my reasoning. In addition, it's almost like he's solving without actually solving, which I note mostly from the way he's scanning the room without providing any thoughts.

A thought occurs to me that the drunk man could be in league with the gambler. Their conversation follows a concept I'd expect to see from two saboteurs talking, which is to say they both talk without actively trying to determine if the other is a saboteur. I have some experience with picking up on things like this, and it definitely catches my attention.

Another thing I note down the way the gambler seems far too eager to accuse others of being a saboteur, something I'd thought about earlier. I watch him and the drunk man cross the room to speak to the quiet man sitting at the bar. It's curious how the drunk seems to ease off of his suspicion quickly, and I recall having seen two saboteurs do that together, but I doubt that three saboteurs would sit together and talk like this. I find the drunk (@Cream Tuatara) and gambler (@Magenta Albatross) to be far more paired as saboteurs than either of them with the quiet man, but I'd likely put the drunk (@Cream Tuatara) as paired with the quiet man (@Coral Swan) for this looking like standard distancing between saboteurs (accuse, then stop accusing over literally nothing, in this case). However, I again note that I'd find it hard to believe that all three of them are saboteurs together talking like this. It's possible, though, and I feel that they all don't seem to be actually solving.

If I were to accuse someone directly of being a saboteur, it would be Hayden (@Cream Tuatara), who I think would work in either pairing so far and therefore has highest equity to be a saboteur right now.

As I'm caught up in keeping track of my observations, someone nearby speaks, startling me slightly. The man talking to me gives off ok vibes at a glance - I'd seen the way he looked at the inactive lurkers around the room, which I don't mind. It's good to encourage more conversation in a situation like this.

It also feels odd that they accuse someone of watching without saying anything when the only thing they themselves have said almost nothing except an accusation.

While I'm sitting there, someone else approaches. Seems to want to give me an apple? I don't really like apples, so I shrug and pick the second one. This gimmick feels very slightly unlikely to be a saboteur, and I have a feeling I see what they're doing.

I'm not quite sure what this means, whether it's about me or not. If it is about me, I don't feel my intention there was to accuse, simply just to understand their thoughts in more depth. I'd likely appreciate some clarification here.

I make a mental list of everyone who I've seen so far and my thoughts on them, with least likely to be a saboteur at the top, and most likely at the bottom:

Lurker (Azure Mouse)

---

Nibbles (Indigo Weasel)

Anyone who I don't have listed would go here, what I'd call "null".

Merchant / Kael (Fuchsia Ostrich)

---
Quiet man / Acks (Coral Swan)
Gambler / Alais (Magenta Albatross)
Drunk / Hayden (Cream Tuatara)

I add a notation that, out of the 15 people I've seen around in the town, I'd expect there to be three saboteurs. However, I doubt I'm currently correct on all three who I believe could be saboteurs right now.

He figured he should have taken more of his dad’s stuff when he left. Alais’ dad was a bit of an odd character. He never went anywhere without this chain thingy. Pops, Loyalty Short, always used to talk about how lucky I was, he thought. And I went and spent that luck.

Breaking eye contact with Kael, seemingly distracted, he leans over to the girl and says, “So, you’re really an orphan? Where’d you grow up?”

@Ivory Dragonfly

Kael smiles and shakes the offered hand and places 3 boxings on the table in front of himself. He then proceeds to fall asleep. When he wakes up, he realizes that chaos has happened and now he needs to work out what happened.

How the hell do I keep ending up in these situations.

The thing calling itself Lysia scowled as she stalked through Tyrian Falls, following the pulsing thrum from her wristband. She glanced at the bustling inn as she passed, but the Resonator didn't increase its pulsing at all, indicating no activity from inside; so she kept moving.

This was supposed to have been a simple operation. Get in, confirm the situation on the ground in Tyrian Falls, get out. But of COURSE it couldn't be that simple. She'd gotten caught in the loop.

It was her own blasted fault, she knew. She'd known the risks, known all about Tyrian Falls. The village twisted in time, warped by an anomalous perpendicularity into temporal loop, forever reliving the same catastrophe in a perpetual cycle of paranoia, betrayal, and devastation. But that was supposed to have stopped; the loop was supposed to have been broken. She'd been careless, ignored the warning signs.

And now she was stuck inside a bubble of time, detached from the wider cosmere. Unless she found a way out, she'd be trapped here and die along with every other living thing in the village. She'd had friends who died here, years ago.

Well, she knew step one: identify the Spiked. There were always Spiked, she knew, in every cycle; conspiring to bring about the downfall of Tyrian Falls. They'd be hiding among the villagers, sowing discord and paranoia. They could be anybody; from what she remembered of past cycles, the identities of the Spiked were completely unpredictable. She remembered the Professor had a theory... But she was getting distracted. She needed to focus on the task at hand.

Lysia arrived at the burning corpse of the watchtower. The guards were still keeping people out, but that wasn't a problem for her. She withdrew a small, oblong box from her pocket, a crank extending out of one side. She adjusted some sliders on it, then after some quick mental calculations, turned the crank two and a half times. She dropped the box to the ground where she stood and immediately started moving to the other side of the tower, tapping her finger rhythmically against her leg as she went.

By the time she'd circled all the way around, she'd tapped her finger one hundred and sixteen times. She waited, timing her approach, then started swiftly running towards the tower, her feet making almost no sound as she ran. At the count of one hundred fifty, right as she was about to come into view of the guards, the harsh cawing of a raven echoed out from where she'd dropped the box. The guards jumped and turned towards the sound, raising their weapons, before realizing it was just a bird. They laughed amongst themselves at their tension, and returned to their posts.

By that time, Lysia was already inside the watchtower.

Inside, Lysia quickly took stock of the room, then withdrew her wrist from her sleeve, exposing an ornate wristband. Composed of an intricate cage of bronze, zinc, and nicrosil, the Resonator held sixteen different narrow, triangular gemstones, arranged in a circle. She'd already guessed what she'd see from the accelerated pulsing sensation, but it couldn't hurt to check. Sure enough, the ruby on the upper left was glowing strongly, along with a faint glow from the emerald near the bottom. Someone had been using hemalurgically-fueled Allomancy here in the last day or two.

She had her first lead on finding the Spiked.

With hurried clatter the door to the inn slammed open, a mousy looking man darting in and shutting the door behind him just as quickly. Rind was always quick to scare, but the burning of the watchtower and whispers of a sabateur had him even more skittish than usual. Terrible things lurked in the mists, and if whoever had killed Gam had been undeterred by them then the perpetrator could only be even more frightening. The tense atmosphere in the inn did little to assuade this fear.

Rind found a table for himself, keeping his head down and listening to the flying accusations. The most fingers seemed pointed at Acks, but nothing Rind overheard left them inclined to agree. No, the Jaist (@Mauve Crocodile) and Nibbles (@Indigo Weasel) drew his attention most. Sharing no reasoning while being so quick to blame was never a good sign. With as little as Rind knew his suggestions may as well be random, but he felt better about following his gut than the roll of the dice- or, well, the apple.

"I'm Sew by the way. Nice to meet ya. You my dad?" Before the herbalist had a chance to respond, she continued. "It'd be nice if you were my dad. Then Mihtig could be my pet! Oh that would be so cool." She considered going in for another round of chin scratches, but decided against it. "Sorry, I shouldn't focus on the cat. I should be lookin' for Spiked right?"

She turned to the nervous man's table. "Hey shady! Got anythin' to say about that?"

I've taken my time away from the the focus for too long. It seems I'm not alone with my suspicion on Alais as the tavern fills with murmuring of that regard. Seems I'd be one of many bystanders here. A lack of progression and throughline. It's mildly nervewracking, as if nothing will go anywhere at this point.  I pull myself away from the shadows to take a better look.

A lot of these suspicion, on Acks, which I don't seem to understand, as well as the rodent-like man who had just rushed in, pointing his own suspicions away from Acks, but to another, some Apple vendor..? Quaint. It immediately sparks to mind that this could be a Saboteur pushing off onto a villager, but I've made generalizations while not allowing time to follow through. Surely though, no more than one could be in that group of three <Acks/Rind/Nibbles>? A quiet tapping of fingers to ponder, before a shallow exhaustion hits, and I cast my concerns away to find myself a table seat, keeping an eye on Nibbles, either from suspicion or hunger, I know not yet.
